Fact • In 2011, the travel industry accounted for over 7 percent of the
1.6 million jobs created in 2011
• Expanding its employment base by 119,000 over the past year, the Department of Labor is showing a sixth consecutive quarter of travel and tourism employment growth.
• Within the travel category, the lodging industry has seen the largest rate of growth – with employment rising 3.4 percent during the most recent reporting.
• In January, the White House issued an Executive Order aimed at boosting travel and tourism jobs citing the industry as one of high growth potential that will lead the country into recovery.

Common Core State Standards
Provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected
to learn. The standards are designed to reflect the knowledge and
skills that students need for success in college and careers.
HTMP integrates the Common Core State Standards.
These standards have been adopted by 45 states, the
District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Final Exam
• Student exams must be proctored by an
administrator (guidance counselor, principal, etc.)

– Testing may be completed any time after students
complete each textbook
• Certificate of Completion awarded to students who
score 70% or higher on the final exam each year.
Students who score 90% or higher receive
certificate “with honors.”
International Certification Certified Hospitality & Tourism Management Professional (CHTMP)
• Requirements:
– Pass both HTMP Year 1 and HTMP Year 2 final exams with a score of 70% or higher
– 100 hour work experience in qualifying position • Qualifying position is defined as working, whether paid or unpaid, in the
hospitality industry
• Hospitality industry is defined by four categories: Accommodations, Food & Beverage, Transportation, or Attractions (see Page 11 of Year 1 text)
• There is no supervisory level requirement
• Work requirement can be done over the course of the 2 year program, but must be completed within 120 days (4 months) of taking the Year 2 final exam
• Students will receive a Workplace Voucher to have their supervisor sign to verify they have completed the 100 hour work requirement
• Supervisor will also complete a 1-page Evaluation Form to be used as a personal portfolio for the student in order to showcase skills mastered. There is no minimum score requirement for the Evaluation.

Certified Guest Service Professional (CGSP)
• Complete Guest Service GOLD Curriculum included in the
Supplemental Media Package within the Student Online Course

• CGSP Certification available for purchase at a deeply discounted rate
for HTMP students
• CGSP offers students the chance to earn an internationally
recognized, industry supported professional certification in the first
year of the program. There is no workplace requirement for CGSP.
Teacher Certification
• CHI Summer Institute is held each summer at various hospitality colleges.
• Participants receive :
– Customized textbook
– Examination administered at end of week
• (required for professional certification)
• Includes three levels of training
– Each level is a week-long training
• Upon successful completion of all three levels and completion of 120 hours of internship, teachers will be awarded the CHI (Certified Hospitality Instructor) certification
