She holds a Doctorate and Masters in Religious Studies from the University of Virginia, with a focus on theology, ethics, and culture, and her Bachelors in Religious Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. McBride has served as the Board of Regents Endowed Chair in Ethics and Director of Peace and Justice Studies at Wartburg College and was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Initiative in Religious Practices and Practical Theology at Emory University. At Emory’s Candler School of Theology, she served as Program Director for the Atlanta Theological Association’s Certificate in Theological Studies at Metro State Prison for Women. McBride is author of The Church for the World: A Theology of Public Witness and co-editor of Bonhoeffer and King: Their Legacies and Import for Christian Social Thought. She is President of the International Bonhoeffer Society (English Language Section). In her book Radical Discipleship: A Liturgical Politics of the Gospel, McBride seeks to organically connect liturgy with activism and theological reflection. This text is rooted in experiences teaching theology in a women’s prison and participating in the Open Door Community - an intentionally interracial, residential Christian activist community in Atlanta. ODC has been engaged in mercy and justice work on behalf of the homeless and prison populations for 35 years. Your leader, Jennifer McBride, will teach on the social and political character of the good news, and utilize the liturgical seasons as a framework for engaging social evils like mass incarceration, capital punishment, and homelessness. Things to Know: Check-in is Monday, 3-5pm. WPA UMC continuing ed credits are Available! Scholarships are available to First-Time Attenders! You can register online!
