EP review: rich lown-take me home Bexhill singer/songwriter Rich Lown, who will soon be featuring in one of our Balcony Sessions, has re-leased his 5th studio EP, ‘Take Me Home’.

Infusing soulful vocals with folk/rock backing, Lown has produced a record that is catchy and easy to listen to, with meaningful lyrics and beautiful guitar melo-dies.

This hardworking musician has also been featured on BBC Introducing where it was said that he “has one of those relaxed, velvety voices that just commands respect.” We can’t help but agree.

‘Take Me Home’ sounds like a mix of Marcus Foster and Ronan Keating, but without the accent. The simple yet effective music compliments his iconic, mellow voice per-fectly and there isn’t one song on the EP that disappoints.

You can download this EP, as well as his full album, on iTunes or stream it on Sound-Cloud, which can be accessed through this magazine by clicking the image above.

EP review:citizen shade-one for the evening American 3-piece Citizen Shade have released their new EP ‘One For The Eve-ning’ on iTunes.

Singer Will Howard has a voice that can only be de-scribed as having the range of Sam Smith, the depth of George Ezra and the power of Adele. This, teamed with the beautiful piano from Da-vid Lezcano and cello from Justin Mackey, makes for a glorious EP that is emotive and well produced. Each song is powerful and catchy without being too over worked; it’s effortless. For a smaller, unsigned band, they have a well-rounded EP that is mixed perfectly and ready for mass release. It wouldn’t be surprising if they are picked up by a big record label and see them in the charts some time soon.

You can find their EP on iTunes simply by clicking the image above.

NEWS: FOUR YEAR STRONG HAVE RELEASED A NEW VIDEOFour Year Strong have released a new music video for their single ‘Stolen Credit Card’. The song is off of their self-titled album. The video is written, produced and directed by Kyle Thrash (Neck Deep, State Champs), and is of an angsty, destructive style.

“While trying to think of an idea for this video we decided to find a director we liked and let them interpret the song and put their artistic spin on it,” guitarist and vocalist Dan O’Connor says. “When we read the treatment by Kyle Thrash, we thought he had a really interesting and dark interpretation. We wanted to see how it would look and we are stoked.”

You can purchase their self-titled album on their website. Check it out the new music video above.

NEWS: angels & Airwaves premier new songAngels & Airwaves are premiering the second single from their upcoming EP over at Billboard. You can listen to the ambient track, titled “Home,” below. Be sure to leave us a comment with your thoughts.

“It had a really hypnotic piece of music that really resonated with me,” DeLonge says of the track. “So the very, very first notes of ‘Home’ are my interpretation of what I heard at that one time, and that’s how it started. And then you get inspired to do another thing; ‘I’ll put this here’ or ‘How about this? How about this?’ And the next thing you know you have something.”

NEWS: Coheed and cambria have released a new singleCoheed and Cambria have released their second single from their upcoming non-conceptual album ‘The Color Before The Sun’ via a lyric video on YouTube. The full album will be released on the 16th of October but pre-orders are avail-able now.

Speaking with Rolling Stone magazine, frontman Claudio Sanchez talked about the importance of his unity with his wife, which is the inspiration for this new single: “We collaborate on so many things, my wife and I: music, comics, but here we are now, collaborating on a life together. It was huge. Especially for the time — like I said, I had this sense of identity crisis. Songs like “Eraser” and “Island” and “Colors” certainly echo those ideas of, like, “Who am I? Do I want to be someone else?” When we found out that we were pregnant, all of that didn’t really matter anymore. And here this person was that is so important to me, and we’re about to do this together. And it was just my way of expressing my gratitude to her. And I know some people would say, “Well, Mars is a limitation. You only love her to Mars? We have an ever-expanding universe out there, and we’re only a part of this small galaxy.” Well, for me it’s like, I’ll never know what that distance is. To me, that might as well be infinity. My love for her is ever-expanding.”

Check out the new track above.

NEWS: THE WONDER YEARS STREAM NEW TRACK ALONGSIDE ALBUM RELEASEThe Wonder Years have released their fifth studio album to-day (September 4th) through Hopeless Records. Talking to SPIN, where the song ‘Thanks For The Ride’ premiered, Dan “Soupy” Campbell talks of losing a friend and writing the song for him: I wanted to write a verse that imagined a realistic ‘if you had come out of the coma [scenario],’” he says. “It was the idea of us losing touch after college, and here you got mar-ried to some boy in California and have a baby on the way. I really like that idea of, ‘We probably still wouldn’t talk, but you would be happy and that would be enough.”

You can buy their new album ‘No Closer To Heaven’ on iTunes.

Listen to the single by clicking on the relevant image.

NEWS: THE MIGHTY SKINDRED HAVE RELEASED A FANTASTIC NEW VIDEOParty boys Skindred are back with a new album and are premiering their new video for‘Under Attack’. The video is authentic and raw, showing a real connection to their fans and compliments the song completely.

“With the Under Attack video we wanted the band in a small space with our fans. Down and dirty. The song is such a riffing track so we wanted a video that would compliment it. Hanging out with fans and then going mental with them throughout the day was great fun. You can’t fake that energy, and that’s what the cameras captured” drummer Arya Goggin told Metal Hammer.

Check out the new video above. We fucking love this track.

NEWS: SOULFLY HAVE RELEASED A NEW VIDEOSoulfly have released a vid-eo for their song ‘Archangel’, which was lifted from their al-bum of the same name that was released in August this year.

Mainman Max Cavalera is de-lighted at the fans response to the new album and the chart success across the world: ““I want to thank all of the tribe and everyone at Nuclear Blast for supporting this record, and

making all the hard work meaningful. I would also like to thank Matt Hyde for the great production and Eliran Kantor for the killer artwork. Can’t wait to see the tribe on tour.”

NEWS: MILEY CYRUS HAS RELEASED A CRAZY NEW VIDEO FOR DOO IT!Following the release of her bizarre new album, Miley Cyrus has brought out a promo video to accompa-ny song ‘Dooo It!’. Unsurprisingly, it’s weird and can make you feel quite uncomfortable.

With close up shots of her spitting and swallowing glitter, various slime rubbed into her face and a rather messy milk bath, you can use your imagination to work out what it all represents. One idea is that it’s a unicorn spunking onto Miley’s face. Not one to shy away from controversy, she also starts the video stat-ing that they might “need more marijuana”.

If you’re okay with feeling a bit uneasy, check out the video above.

NEWS: Oceans red announce new albumOceans Red have an-nounced a new album!

album review: the fratellis-eyes wide, tongue tied‘Eyes Wide, Tongue Tied’ is a far throw from the days of ‘Chelsea Dagger’. Keeping their signature quirkiness, this album is much more mature. The accent is still con-fusing. Why a Scottish singer decides to sing in an American accent is baffling, but it seems to work with the subject matter, with one of the songs called ‘Moonshine’.

The tracks are cleaner, more composed, and seems like more time has been spent perfecting each part compared to that of ‘Costello Music’ which was released nine years ago next month.

Two years ago, the band released an album called ‘We Need Medicine’. Not heard of it? Don’t worry, not many people did; it didn’t push any boundaries or feature any songs catchy enough to become popular. This isn’t to say the band have lost their touch though. There is something different about this new album. Something that the last album lacked: subtlety. They aren’t trying to show off or make any particular statements, but just trying to produce good music. ‘Eyes Wide, Tongue Tied’ is to ‘Costello Music’ that ‘AM’ by the Arctic Monkeys is to ‘Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not’’: a highly respected album that isn’t flailing around in the grasps of 2006, where trying hard to be ‘rock’ was about shouting and playing loud guitar. Now, it edges into the world of pretention but with talent to back it up.

The album was released at the end of August and is definitely worth a listen to if you used to love jumping around to ‘Chelsea Dagger’. It is available to stream on Spotify.

NEWS: scott cooper in talks to direct american wolfDirector Scott Cooper is apparently in talks with Leonard DiCaprio and his Appian Way company to direct American Wolf.

The film will be based on the writings of Texas Monthly senior editor Nate Blakeslee, who chronicled a “hunter” who accidentally killed (murdered) an endangered wolf in Yellowstone National Park.

But it wasn’t just any wolf, it was the affectionately named O-Six (or 832f), which was being tagged and tracked by researchers and had become a star in the eyes of the animal-loving public. After her accidental shooting (murder) there was so much public outrage that she received an obituary in The New York Times. Following the event the “hunter” formed an unlikely friendship with one of the researchers.

It’s our belief that a human shooting a sentient being from a distance using a high-velocity rifle for any purpose other than to even-tually eat it isn’t hunting, it’s nothing but a psychotic murder for pleasure. But hey, people like watching films so why not make a movie about it?

film preview: no escapeJack Dwyer (Owen Wilson) and his family move to Southeast Asia from America to start a new life but they soon dis-cover they are in the middle of a political uprising and the whole place is struck by war and violence. Armed rebels attack the hotel they’re staying at and try to kill any foreigners they encounter. Jack has to find a way to save himself and his family from the chaos and destruction that is surrounding them.

You see the name Owen Wilson, you immediately think ‘comedy’ but this film is far from amusing. Explosions, death and destruction aren’t exactly what you’d expect from this actor but he’s obviously trying to break free from that typecasting. The film has already received mixed reviews and based on the trailer, you can see why. It has the potential to be an exciting and interesting film but in reality, it just seems like there’s more fire and shootings than a substantial storyline.

It’s hard to take Owen Wilson seriously in this. That teamed with Pierce Brosnan putting on a different accent to usual, the whole thing seems like it will be a bit of a farce. It could surprise everyone and end up being a great hard-hitting film, but it is doubtful. It doesn’t look awful, but it doesn’t look particularly great either…

Check out the trailer by clicking the image above and see what you think.

It’s got a great beat that’ll definitely make you tap your feet, with creepy vocals and moody melodies that work perfectly with the sound. The production really shows off the strengths of the band perfectly. Sweet Jonny certainly have a great song here that really does show they want to make music that stands out in the crowd, and they do it incredibly well.

This Sullen Hope is a great example of the huge wall of sound that Raum Kingdom can build and how they can just as easily collapse it onto your skull. The track flows from discor-dant atmosphere with almost tribal vocal lines that descend into dark waves of dissonance leaving the listener almost hypnotised and enthralled.

JUNKYARD CHOIR-GET IT ON

RAUM KINGDOM-THIS SULLEN HOPE

The track starts with a simple but effective rift that underscores the entire song, and it’s soon complemented by the entire works – a mix of guitars and drums coming together to create that perfect rock’n’roll vibe – the kind you roll down your windows to as you cruise down a dirt road. Cue adequately hoarse vocals and very aptly crude lyrics, and you complete the whole package. And what a fantastic package it is.
