Who is James Webb?

● James Edwin Webb (1906-1992).● 2nd NASA Administrator from '61 to '68.● Ensured NASA had a focus on science.

○ Mariner missions to Mars and Venus.○ Orbiting Solar Observatory program.○ Explorers program science satellites.○ More than 75 space science missions.

● Envisioned a space telescope as a major NASA effort in 1965.

Call for Proposals

● Deadline May 1● ~35% of time is used by GTO/ERS in Cycle 1

(http://www.stsci.edu/jwst/observing-programs/)● 4+4 pages long, submitted through the Astronomer Proposal Tool (APT)● Streamline proposal (phase 1 + 2 at submission)● We recommend to start at least 6 weeks before deadline● CSA funding at about the same level as NASA (to be announced)● Double-blind review
