RIVER ISLAND CHARITY T-SHIRT COMPETITION

The Art Room at HomeThe Art Room at Place2Be offers therapeutic art sessions for children. While many children and young people have been unable to attend school, Place2Be’s specialist Art Room team have recently launched ‘The Art Room at Home’, a series of art projects which can be made at home together with parents, carers, teachers or family members.

This week, The Art Room is excited to launch a project in collaboration with River Island, who are running an art competition throughout 4th June and 11th June– they need your help to design a brand new t-shirt! River Island believe in the power of positive wellbeing, and Place2Be is delighted to be one of their charity partners.

During these challenging times, children and young people are likely to be experiencing a rollercoaster of emotions day to day. With this in mind, we encourage children to ask themselves ‘what makes me happy?’. This question will help them to explore and reflect on the positive aspects of their life. They may want to think about which objects bring them happiness or the activities they enjoy most. Perhaps there is a certain colour they associate with being happy or a person who always brightens their day? Maybe something they can see out of their window brings them joy? Whatever it may be, we want children to create a design which represents something that makes them happy.

⊲Think about a moment when you felt really happy. What was it that made you happy?

⊲Which colours come to mind when you see or hear the word ‘happy’?

⊲The girl in the story puts all her favourite things into her treasure chest including rainy days and her friends’ giggles! What would you put into your treasure chest?

⊲Not seeing our friends and family might make us sad. What cheers you up the most whilst being at home?

⊲ What was it like to create your design? What can you tell me about it?⊲ Which three words would you use to describe your creation?

⊲ COMPETITION TIME!! Children always know best so it’s only right we want them to help us design a t-shirt where ALL of the profi ts will go to not one but THREE wellbeing & mental health charities, including Place2Be.

⊲ To enter all we need you to do is ask the children to draw whatever makes them happy. Is it sunshine, a rainbow, an ice cream, playing in the park, the list is endless… and then post a picture of it in the comments under the competiton post at www.facebook.com/riverisland. Super easy!

⊲ The winning two designs will be chosen by River Island’s expert panel and sold on riverisland.com! 100% of the profi ts from the t-shirt will go to our three power charities supporting mental health and wellbeing.
