The Asian Symposium on Computational Heat Transfer and Fluid Flow (ASCHT)
was organized in Xi'an, China, in 2007 with the intention of encouraging scientific and
technical cooperation and exchange among Asian countries. The forum is held every
two years to activate not only scientific and technical communication but also to
promote friendship among members. The 6th ASCHT will be held at the IC&SR
Auditorium, IIT Madras, Chennai, India, from 10th to 13th Dec 2017. This
conference is the sixth in the series of biennial symposia that started in Xi'an,
China (2007), and were subsequently held in Jeju, Korea (2009), Kyoto, Japan (2011),
Hong Kong, China (2013) and Busan, Korea (2015).
This conference has emerged as an international forum for presentation, exchange of
ideas and creation of knowledge in various aspects of computational methods in fluid
and thermal sciences. Theoretical aspects of computation along with important
applications will be covered. The symposium includes invited keynote lectures by
distinguished experts from across the globe. There will be plenary and keynote
sessions and a large number of parallel technical sessions spread over the conference
period. It will bring together researchers and practitioners from academia, research
institutions and industry to exchange experiences, disseminate up-to-date
information, and explore new opportunities in the field. In particular, it will expose
young and new researchers to the state-of-the-art in the field. The organizers
sincerely believe that the 6th Asian Symposium on Computational Heat Transfer and
Fluid Flow-2017 (ASCHT2017) will stimulate researchers while furthering
cooperation among investigators in the field of thermo-fluid sciences and
engineering.

About IIT Madras:
Indian Institute of Technology Madras is one of the premier institutions of national importance in higher technical
education and basic applied research. It was established in 1959 by the Government of India in collaboration with
the German Government. IIT Madras is a township of about one square mile area located in the city of Chennai,
previously known as Madras. It is a residential institution with nearly 600 faculty members, 8000 students and
1000 administrative and supporting staff. The self-contained IIT campus is located in a beautiful wooded land with
flora and fauna, carved out of the Guindy National Park. The campus has about 300 species of trees and plants
including native wild ones. The Institute has sixteen academic departments and a few advanced research centers in
various disciplines of engineering and pure sciences, with nearly 100 laboratories. It is conveniently located at a
distance of about 12 km each from the airport and the railway station.
Accommodation:
About 25 participants can be accommodated in the guest house at IIT Madras. Besides other guesthouses, Chennai
city has a several star/economy hotels within a radius of 10km from the conference venue. Limited transport
facility from guest houses / hotels to the conference venue and back will made available.

Chennai:
The weather in Chennai in December month is generally very pleasant. During this period, Chennai is a hub of music and dance. Some of the tourist attractions in and around Chennai are:
Dakshinachitra:
Located south of Cholamandalam, a reasonably new place presented by the Chennai Crafts Foundation as a showpiece of different living styles in the South. You can admire traditional arts from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Contains recreations of Brahmin, Chettinad, potters, a basket weaver's, a silk weaver's houses along with live representations of their craft.
Covelong:
Replete with historical monuments such as forts, churches, mosques, and a lovely beach, Covelong is a place where you can experience the history of Tamil Nadu as a whole.
Cholamandalam Artist's Village:
Located south of Chennai. Contemporary art, sculpture, batik and craft flourish in this little palm-studded sea-rimmed artists' commune started in 1966. Artists and sculptors live and work here and also exhibit and sell their work.
Muttukadu:
The backwaters of Muttukadu have been developed by the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation to serve as a scenic picnic spot and a water sports centre.
Crocodile Bank:
Not far from Mamallapuram, Romulus Whitaker runs this crocodile breeding and research centre. Here, several species of Indian and African crocodiles and alligators are bred in captivity.
V.G.P Golden Beach Resort:
This beach resort is popular not just with the people of the city, but also with tourists. There is an entertainment arcade for children and for adults.
Vandalur:
Spread over an area of 1,265 acres, the Anna Zoological Park at Vandalur is the largest in South Asia with a rich variety of different species of mammals, reptiles and birds.
Mahabalipuram:
Just out of Chennai, roughly 55 km away, is the world-famous town of Mahabalipuram. The Pallava dynasty of Southern India, one of the major lines of kings to rule in India after the Gupta period, made this lovely seaside village their second capital.
Vedanthangal:
Vedanthangal is one of the largest bird sanctuaries in India. It is a marshy, 30 hectare park with lake visited by over 1, 00,000 migratory birds every year. The majority of these birds can be seen between November and February.
Kanchipuram:
Along with Chennai and Mahabalipuram, Kanchipuram forms the famous Golden Triangle of the Coromandel Coast. Almost all tourists visit Kanchipuram. Kanchipuram finds place on the global map because of the wonderful craftsmanship of the Kanchi weavers, the makers of what is perhaps the finest silk fabric in the world, and its myriad temples.
Pondicherry:
Lying 162 km south of Chennai, this town has an imminent French influence. It is here the famous philosopher Sri Aurobindo once lived. For sightseeing, interesting places include churches, museum, beach, the Aurobindo ashram, and Auroville.
