Diversity, inclusion and individuality are cornerstones of Fried Frank’s culture.

When it comes to diversity in the legal services industry, the statistics aren’t nearly good enough. Real progress, real impact calls for more. To be timely, effective and nimble requires an on-the-ground presence. That’s why the Fried Frank Attorney of Color Affinity Group is vital.

Our firm actively recruits attorneys of color and invests in their advancement. Firm leadership, our Diversity Committee and our Diversity and Inclusion Department work collaboratively to constantly improve diversity and promote inclusion at the firm.

We facilitate:

• monthly meetings to network and socialize with other Fried Frank attorneys from diverse backgrounds

• career coaching and performance review prep

• meaningful pro bono work

• marketing and business development workshops on networking and brand-building

• training on how to deal with implicit bias and generational diversity

• community-building volunteer activities

Cultural Diversity Programming The Attorney of Color Affinity Group organizes cultural programs celebrating African American, Asian-Pacific American, and Hispanic American heritage months that include hosting artists, historians and civil rights advocates as part of our Culture, Law and Policy Series.

“When you look for diversity at a law firm, you can’t focus solely on the numbers but must think of diversity holistically. You have to consider other factors such as whether diverse lawyers are genuinely happy and provided with equal opportunities for growth and development.”

— CHINYERE AJANWACHUKU, CORPORATE ASSOCIATE

Real Life Recruiting Successful recruiting demands passionate advocates. Our members speak at more than a dozen law school panels each year, attend law student organization events and minority job fairs, and participate in intimate on-campus conversations with students.

Fellowships and Pipeline Program We understand that diversifying the profession requires collaborative efforts. We work with many groups, including:

• The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund—these Fried Frank Civil Rights Fellowship Programs provide two-year associate fellowships to diverse attorneys interested in civil rights litigation.

• The Sponsors for Educational Opportunity (SEO)—SEO interns have worked at Fried Frank each year for more than 20 years.

• The Leadership Council of Legal Diversity—Fried Frank is an active member of this organization, made up of chief legal officers and law firm leaders. Our attorneys participate in their Fellows and Pathfinders programs.

“ Most of my life has been a struggle to fit in—to be one of ‘them.’ As a native Korean, you might not expect someone like me to be welcomed at a big law firm in New York. But here, there’s no predominant background required or personality profile you feel pressured to fit into. Everyone is unique in their own way.”

— DK KIM, CORPORATE ASSOCIATE

“ It can be hard to join a firm as a midlevel associate. I’d been here for a week when we had an Attorney of Color meeting. The people I most often talk to now are from the group. One thing that stood out very quickly is the amount of resources Fried Frank invests in the group—there is a full-time staff devoted to supporting it. Not every firm can say that.”

— DALLAS CRUZ, CORPORATE ASSOCIATE

“ The group facilitates programs that give you more interaction with partners. A partner came in to discuss career issues and brought in an in-house lawyer. It was a very comfortable exchange about their career paths, and very helpful to have that kind of exposure.”

— ASAD HUSSAIN, CORPORATE ASSOCIATE

Diversity, inclusion and individuality are cornerstones of Fried Frank’s culture.
