Thank you so much to everyone who came, it is such a special day on the Austral Public School calendar. P & C Meeting On Monday the P & C had a meeting and among other things, we discussed the progress of the Homework Policy Committee. Mrs Akkouche, who is the parent representative on the committee, presented the results of a survey which was conducted with parents, teachers, students and ex-students. We were thrilled with the number of responses we received to this survey and it is the highest number ever returned during my time as principal. Homework is a subject that people have very strong feelings about both for and against and we have very mixed results at this stage, with very convincing reasons. The next step is for the committee to meet again to decide on the next step forward. Thank you to those who attended the meeting, we will keep you posted with the process. 2020 Kindergarten Transition We have had two sessions for our next years Kindergarten students and so far the children have been very settled and are enjoying their time at big school’. Leadership Day Yesterday, Year 5 students from all schools in the Cowpasture Community of Schools came to Austral PS to participate in a combined Leadership Day run by Mr Thompson. These children are all candidates for Leader- ship positions at their own schools in 2020. I have received fantastic feedback from the students and I know that we all will have a wonderful team of leaders next year. Thank you to Mr Thompson for his organisation of a great day! Remembrance Day Next Monday, 11 th November, is Remembrance Day when we commemorate the end of World War 1. At 11am we will have one minutes silence to remember all armed forces who have fought and died to protect their country in all conflicts. At this time, I will be taking our school leaders to RSL Lifecare to participate in their Remembrance Day service by reading a poem. Early Arrival at School Id like to remind families that children should not be arriving at school before 8:45am, when there are teach- ers on duty to ensure everyones safety. We understand that occasionally children may have to arrive early due to unavoidable or unforeseen circumstances, but it should not be a regular occurrence. If you need infor- mation on Before School Care, we can give you the names of the local centres that our community uses. Chil- dren who arrive before 8:45am must go to the primary area and sit quietly on the steps outside of the stage 2 classrooms until the playtime bell rings and a teacher arrives on duty. 2020 School Year Next year, we are expecting that our school will grow significantly in numbers as new housing developments open and new students arrive; however, sadly we are also losing many of our lovely families as they move out of the area. So that we can plan for 2020 as accurately as possible, it is vital that you notify the school if you will not be returning to Austral PS next year. We appreciate your assistance with this. PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Grandparents Day Once again Grandparents Day was a huge success with 156 children from all classes receiving visitors. Thank you so much to everyone who came, it is such a special day on the Austral Public School calendar. P & C Meeting On Monday the P & C had a meeting and among other things, we discussed the progress of the Homework Policy Committee. SILVER MEDALLIONS Sienna GOLD AWARDS Alyssa Travis Aiden Ellah AUSSIE OF THE MONTH Aimylee Olivia GOLD CHANCE CARD WINNER Congratulations to Brodie from 4/5R. Brodie received 2 Flip Out vouchers from the whole school assembly. His gold chance card was drawn out of hundreds of entries. It’s great to see so many stu-dents receiving gold chance cards for being safe, respectful learners at Austral Public School. Thanks again to our wonderful P&C that provide the tickets and for always supporting our school.

Cowpasture Concert What a spectacular night we had at the Cow-pasture Concert at the Marconi Club. As always our students rose to the occasion and put on a show to remember. Our Junior and Senior Dance groups performed Roar and Perm this year and I’m sure you have heard that they all ‘nailed it’ on the night. The Skippers and Glee Group have worked so hard throughout the year to learn and polish their items and you could just see the enthusi-asm, passion and commitment that these stu-dents have shown towards their speciality groups. Well done also, to our Aboriginal students who opened the concert with the National Anthem in Dharawal and performed a series of traditional Aboriginal dances. Thank you to all the teachers involved in these groups. They spend many hours planning rou-tines, designing costumes and organising events for our students. And finally, thank you to the parents of our tal-ented students who have supported us in mak-ing these events a time to remember.

School Captain Nominees for 2020 It’s that time of year again where we start thinking about school captains for next year. All of the Year 5 students attended a meeting at the start of the term to nominate and vote for their peers for the school captain roles. After all the votes were in, Austral staff endorsed the top 12 students, and the whole grade was notified of who were voted in. Austral would like to congratulate the fol-lowing students who were nominated and voted in by their peers:

These 12 students have been introduced at our school assemblies, attended a Leadership Day, and are currently visiting the K-2 classrooms to meet the young students at our school. These 12 students will be presenting a speech at the Captain’s Assembly to persuade students to vote for them. This assembly will be held on Thursday 21st November 2019, in the school hall, commenc-ing at 11:30am. We would like to invite you to attend this assembly and support the stu-dents on the day. We wish you all the best!!! Miss Kearney Stage 3 teacher

Student Leadership Day Yesterday, our 2020 captain nominees had the opportunity to attend our Cowpasture Community of Schools Leadership Day held at Austral PS. 60 students from Austral, Bringelly, Kemps Creek, Horsley Park, Rossmore and Leppington Public Schools came together to learn about what it means to be a student leader. All students participated in a range of

leadership activities and had the opportunity to meet and work with other prospective student leaders. The day was a great success. Here a few pho-tographs of our students hard at work!
