Lesson 1The Authority of the Church

Ephesians 1:17-23 KJV(17) That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto youthe spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:(18) The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what isthe hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in thesaints,(19) And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,(20) Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set himat his own right hand in the heavenly places,(21) Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and everyname that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:(22) And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over allthings to the church,(23) Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

Ephesians 2:5-6 KJV(5) Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (bygrace ye are saved;)(6) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places inChrist Jesus:

Please note, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places[Ephesians 1:20] and hath raised us up together [Ephesians 2:6]. God sees this thatwe were raised when Christ was raised. When Christ sat down, we sit down too, inthe heavenly places. That is where we now are. Now we are seated with him withall the authority that's given unto him. That authority belongs to us. We exercisethe authority that was given to him, because it belongs to us through the Lord JesusChrist. Then we are to help him carry out his work on the earth using thatauthority.

Matthew 28:18-20 KJV(18) And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me inheaven and in earth.(19) Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of theFather, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:(20) Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and,lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Mark 16:15-20 KJV(15) And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel toevery creature.(16) He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth notshall be damned.(17) And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast outdevils; they shall speak with new tongues;(18) They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall nothurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.(19) So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.

Page 5: The Authority Of The Church, THAU157 · Kenneth Hagin’s Testimony In 1952 Christ appeared to me in a vision. At the end of the vision I saw an evil spirit come between me and Jesus,

(20) And they went forth, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

But God who is rich in mercy, for his great love where with he loved us, thatin the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace and hiskindness towards us through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Please notice hesays the exceeding greatness of his power to us ward who believe, in other words, there is such a putting forth of the divine omnipotence of God’s power throughJesus in raising him from the dead that this is actually the mightiest working ofGod.

The raising of Jesus from the dead has been opposed by the tremendouspowers of Satan. Scripture says all principalities, powers, might, and dominionsand every name that is named in the world and the ages to come have endeavoredto defeat this plan of God. But Jesus Christ arose anyway; he ascended, and isseated at the right hand of the Father.

Satanic powers have been baffled and overthrown by the Lord Jesus Christ. He has been enthroned far above them, ruling with the authority of the highest. This authority is found in the resurrection and seating of the Lord Jesus Christ byGod himself. He tells us of the exceeding greatness of his power, to us whobelieve. He’s telling this so that the eyes of the church and the believers might beopen so that we can understand that Satan is defeated and the believer has powerand authority over him and all of his evil forces.

God wants his children to know what is happening. He wants us to know thathe set Jesus far above all principalities, and powers, and might, and dominion. Thechurch as the body of Christ often overlooks this. The spirit of God prayed throughPaul so that the church at Ephesus would see this. But God desires that we tooshould have this wisdom and revelation also. And for us to know that Satan isdefeated, he is a defeated foe and that we have power and authority over him andall of his evil forces,

1 John 3:8, for this purpose the son of God was manifested, that he might destroythe works of the devil. Let's now look at Colossians 2:15, having spoiledprincipalities and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over themin it.

Page 6: The Authority Of The Church, THAU157 · Kenneth Hagin’s Testimony In 1952 Christ appeared to me in a vision. At the end of the vision I saw an evil spirit come between me and Jesus,

The Scriptures seem to tell us, Jesus has destroyed the works of the devil, spoiled his power, and totally defeated him. Since Satan’s works have beendestroyed, his power is destroyed, and he has become a defeated foe and he is adestroyed foe.

Jesus victory was our victory. He did nothing for himself, he did it all for us.He defeated Satan for us. He spoiled his power for us. He destroyed his works forus. He conquered him for us and he gave us power and authority over all the worksof Satan.

We cannot afford to let Satan defeat and walk on us any longer. We mustarise from his bondage. Confess that we are conquerors. Then be sure we hold fastto our confession of faith without wavering. We must maintain and hold fast to ourconfession of God's word. Paul tells us, for with the heart we believe untorighteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Always remember: confession comes first, then Jesus who is the high priestof our confession, responds by granting the thing we have confessed. There is nosuch thing as salvation without confession and there is no such thing as healingwithout confession.

Possession is always confession unto salvation or healing and neverpossession before confession.

Mark 11:24 whatsoever thing you desire, when you pray, believe that ye receivethem, and you shall have them.

Every believer has become a master over Satan. We must rise up and do theworks that Jesus did when he was here on the Earth

Lesson 2

“The Authority of the Church”

Kenneth Hagin’s Testimony

In 1952 Christ appeared to me in a vision. At the end of the vision I saw anevil spirit come between me and Jesus, and put something like a black cloud sothat I couldn’t see Jesus anymore. Then he began jumping up and down and cryingout in a loud voice. Although Jesus was talking to me, I couldn't understand whathe was saying because of this other noise. I couldn't understand why Jesus let thedevil do that. People ask why God lets the devil do things like this. And Iwondered why Jesus didn't rebuke the devil so I could hear what he was saying.

I waited a few seconds, but nothing happened then I finally said to the spirit,I command you, foul demon, to shut up in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. WhenI said that, the spirit fell to the floor, and the cloud vanished so I could see Jesus. The demon cried like a dog that had been whipped. He just whimpered and whinedand wouldn’t look at me. Then I told him to get out of there. So he ran off. Jesussaid then, if you hadn't done that, I couldn't have. I said, Lord I know I didn't hearyou right. But he said, no I said I couldn't.

I was shocked and unable to comprehend why the Lord would say that. Hecouldn’t have done it. I told the Lord that he would have to prove that to me by the

Page 9: The Authority Of The Church, THAU157 · Kenneth Hagin’s Testimony In 1952 Christ appeared to me in a vision. At the end of the vision I saw an evil spirit come between me and Jesus,

word of God, I wanted at l e a s t three Scriptures to prove it. Jesus smiled and toldme that he would give me four. I told him that I'd never seen anything like this inthe Bible. He told me then that there was a lot in the Bible I didn't know yet. A lotof people trying to figure things out in their heads, but you have to get therevelation of it.

Jesus then said to me, there’s no place in the New Testament where anywriter told the church to pray to God the Father about the devil. People who askGod to rebuke the devil are wasting their time. The least member of the body ofChrist has just as much power over the devil as anyone else, and unless believersdo something about the devil, nothing will be done.

Matthew records that Christ said, when he rose from the dead, all power andauthority is given unto him both in heaven and in earth. He immediately delegatedthe authority on earth to the church. In Matthew 28:18 he said all power is given tome in heaven and earth. In Mark He said. Go you into the entire world and preachthe gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved, buthe that believes not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them thatbelieve. In my name they shall cast out devils they shall speak with new tongues.

The very first sign that shall follow any believer is, in my name they shallcast out devils. He is simply saying that the believer will have authority over the devil. They’ll break the power of the devil over their lives and the lives of their loved ones. They'll be free from the enemy because they will exercise authorityover him. They cast out devils, they speak with new tongues, they shall lay handson the sick, and they shall recover. You don't pray that Jesus will lay hands on thesick, you do it. If you lay hands on the sick, then you are exercising authority over the devil .

James 4:7 says resist the devil, and he will flee from you. You are the subject ofthe sentence. James did not say to pray to God so that he would resist the devil foryou. You are supposed to resist the devil. He didn't say that he'll flee from Jesus. Itsays that he'll flee from you. The authority is yours; feeling has nothing to do withit. The authority is yours whether you feel like it or not. But you must exercise it.The policeman who holds up his hand and stopped traffic might not feel like it, butthe authority works whether he feels like it or not.

My spirit told me that there was significance in the word flee. I know whatthe word means in general but I looked it up in the dictionary and found that the

9

definition means to run from in terror. Then I knew why the demon in my visionhad begun to whimper and cry. He was scared to death.

Another Scripture 1 Peter 5:8 be sober, be vigilant, because your adversarythe devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about seeking whom he may devour. Youradversary means your opponent or the one who is against you, your enemy, Satan. This is as far as a lot of people read. They say the Devils after me. They ask us topray for them so that the devil won’t get them. Well, the Devils already got them.If you talk that way, you’re already gotten. You can turn in prayer requests, butyou’ll still be bound. You might as well face up to it. You will have to dosomething about it.

The next verse says who resist steadfast in the faith knowing that the sameafflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. The Americanrevised version reads your faith instead of the faith, Peter didn't tell us that onlyPaul could resist the devil, or that he would resist the devil for us. Every believerhas the same authority that Paul had in Christ Jesus. Folks are always asking mewhy they don't get healed every time something is wrong with them. They haveministers pray for them and nothing happens, the people suggest that something iswrong with the minister.

But I tell them that when they were first saved they were like a baby, andGod permitted others to pray for them. But after a while he expects that baby to walk and take care of himself. A lot ofpeople still want to be babies. God has put them down and told them to walk, butthey can’t do it.

Once when my wife and I were staying in a couple’s home while attending aconvention, they ask us to pray for their baby who had a rupture. We prayed andthe rupture disappeared in a few days. The woman said, brother Hagan it seems asif the older we get the more faith we should have for healing. But it’s mainly theyounger folks in our church who have the most faith. I didn't know who to ask topray for my baby before you came, because no one ever gets healed here.

Right or wrong this was her thinking. In her church as in many, most of thefolks were saved when they were younger and maybe God permitted others to prayfor them. They have remained in a babyhood stage of Christian development, because of the lack of right teaching they say that they used to get healed whenthey were first Christians, but now they don’t.

10

What about a person who never attempts to exercise any faith on his own,but relies on other people’s faith? The Bible says, your adversary the devil, as aroaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: whom resist steadfastin the faith. You can do something about it. Jesus, James, and Peter all tell us to dosomething about the devil. Paul says in Ephesians 4:27 neither give place to thedevil, don’t give the devil any place in you If you give a place to the devil, there’s nothing Jesus can do because you have authority and you have given the devil permission. Unless you do somethingagainst the devil, Jesus still can't do anything about it. In my vision Jesus told me that he had done all that he was going to do about the devil. He said that he aroseand had delegated this authority to the church. The believers have been delivered.

Colossians 1:13 says, who has delivered us from the power of darkness, and hastranslated into the kingdom of his dear son. He told me that nothing else is going to be done about the devil, until the time comes when the angel is going to comedown from heaven and bind Satan for one thousand years in the bottomless pit andthen he will cast him into the lake of fire. But until the angel binds him, we hadbetter wake up, change our praying, and get after him. We have the authority to dothis. We're sitting at the right hand of the Father far above. If we are above theseprincipalities and powers, then we have authority over them. Scripture goes on tosay, and hath put all things under his feet and gave him to be the head over allthings to the church. The feet are members of the body. Feet aren't members of thehead. Which is his body, the fullness of him that hath all and in all. Howwonderful it is to know that the least member of the body of the Lord, those whoare the very souls of the feet, is far above all the mighty sources we have beenconsidering. No wonder Jesus said in Luke 10:19, behold I give you power to treadon serpents and scorpions. And over all the powers of the enemy: and nothing shallby any means hurt you. The enemy has been walking on us to long. It is generallythought that the devil is bigger than everybody, that he is running everything. He isthe god of this world, but we are in this world, not of this world. Paul stated plainly in Romans 5:12, for if by one man's offense deathreigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and the gift ofrighteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ. One translation says shall reign as kings in life through the one, Jesus Christ.

Some people saying here I wander like a beggar, through the heat andthrough the snow, I'd rather hear a donkey bray at midnight in a tin barn then listento such songs. We've sung them for so long that we believe they're true. Peopleshed a few tears about wondering like a beggar and think they're getting blessed. But God's plan is for you to rule and reign in life, to reign over circumstances, poverty, disease, and everything that would hinder you. You reign because you have the authority. You reign by Jesus Christ. We act like young mockingbirdssometimes with our eyes shut and our mouth wide open. Anybody can come alongand poke anything down us and will believe it. We think that were supposed to behumble and not have anything.

A preacher once told me that another preacher was humble because he drovea 1936 Chevrolet. I said, that's not humble that's being ignorant; this was thatpreacher’s idea of humility. One fellow said, you know that Jesus and the apostlesnever drove a Cadillac. Well there weren't any Cadillacs back then. But Jesus didride a donkey, and that was the Cadillac of that day. That was the best means oftransportation they had. Sometimes folks allow the devil to cheat them out of anyblessing they could have, God didn't intend that we should live in poverty. He saidthat we are to reign in life. He didn't mention the devil should dominate us or ourfamilies. Sometimes I just get mad at the devil and tell him to take his hands offmy children. I tell him I'm ruling over my dominion. I put him on the run and heruns.

Some of us who know more, have to help those who don't know, and wehave to act for them, some years ago when I was up north preaching, I wasawakened in the night. I asked the Lord what was the matter and I began to pray intongues. I always get further that away. Then the Lord showed me that it was myoldest brother. I was praying in tongues. A couple days later my sister phoned mefrom Texas and told me that my brother had broken his back. He was in seriouscondition and they didn't know if he would live are not. I told my sister that Ialready had prayed for him, I told her that the Lord had told me that he wasn'treally as bad as they thought. Well, she phoned to see about him and the doctorstold her that to their utter amazement he had gotten up and walked without the caston his back, they shook their heads and couldn't believe it; they could notunderstand what kept Him from dying or being paralyzed.

Later my brother was staying at my house he had drifted from the Lordbecause of family trouble, and was disturbed and despondent. His wife had left

Page 13: The Authority Of The Church, THAU157 · Kenneth Hagin’s Testimony In 1952 Christ appeared to me in a vision. At the end of the vision I saw an evil spirit come between me and Jesus,

12

him and had taken the children. On Sunday morning I tried to get him to go tochurch, but he refused.

Right in the middle of my sermon, I suddenly had a vision in which I sawmy brother in the city Park. I heard him say that he was going to kill his wife andthen himself. I stopped right then and told the people to wait a minute because Ihad little matter I had to take care of. I told them that the devil is trying to bothersomeone, I said, devil, you stop right now. In the name of Jesus Christ leave thatman alone. Then I finished my sermon.

We went back home and in the afternoon my brother was at the house. Hewas obviously in good spirits. He said that he had walked to the park and haddecided to take things into his own hands. I told him that I knew it he said thatsomething came over him suddenly and that he was delivered. It was as if a cloudhad lifted and he came back whistling and singing.

He didn't know how to touch the Lord for himself. So those of us who areolder in the Lord have to help those other folks. The time is coming, though, whenthey are going to have to know how to do some things for themselves.

We must learn to be exalted to the place where God wants us. The church often fails in her ministry of authority and is bowed down in defeat and overcomewith fear. Ephesians 1:22 says and have put all things under his feet and givinghim to be the head over all things to the church [for the benefit of the church]. He is head over sickness disease, and anything that’s evil. His being head over allthings is for the church.

We need to sit reverently behind those mighty trials that there tremendousmeaning may grasp our hearts. Once they do we will reap rich rewards. In thisattitude the spirit of truth can lift us into the place where we can see the truemeaning of God’s revelation. Paul is praying for the church at Ephesus so thatthey might have the spirit of wisdom and revelation. God has made Christ to be thehead over all things to the church, it's for our sake that he's the head, so that we,through him might exercise the authority over all things. When we see whatbelongs to us, then we will enjoy the victory he has for us.

The devil will fight to keep us from getting there. But through stubborn faithin Christ the victory can be ours.

Ephesians 5:1-6 KJV(1) Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;(2) And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for usan offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling savour.(3) But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once namedamong you, as becometh saints;(4) Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient:but rather giving of thanks.(5) For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetousman, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.(6) Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things comeththe wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. Lesson 4

“The Authority of the Church”

Joshua 1:3 (KJV)

Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I givenunto you, as was spoken to Moses. God made this promise to Israel as they weregoing into the promise land. Our New Testament blessing of this Scripture isprovided in redemption, every promise that you put your foot upon belongs toyou.

Healing is yours, God’s peace is yours, deliverance is yours, freedom fromthe dominion of Satan is yours and all of the promised blessings in the new covenant belong to you to the extent that you tread upon it and believe for it, it is a portion of your inheritance. All of these blessings are yours to possess in thebeautiful name of Jesus. All of the promises in the Bible are yours, so do not be slack to go up and possess your land.

Satan and his evil forces will try to stop you but be strong in prayer andfaith and in the all sufficiency of the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior,do not stop until the last enemy is conquered.

The size of your inheritance depends on how much land you have stoodon, walked on, and really claimed. If you have not claimed it all, then that muchmore of it is yours, as you dare to possess it.

Page 19: The Authority Of The Church, THAU157 · Kenneth Hagin’s Testimony In 1952 Christ appeared to me in a vision. At the end of the vision I saw an evil spirit come between me and Jesus,

Take the sword of the Spirit, and put on the whole armor of God, whichwill make you invincible. Fight the good fight of faith, endure hardness, as agood soldier. Resist the devil and you will find the promises true: he will fleefrom you.

All things are yours, only believe. Faith is the evidence of things not seen, don’t allow your faith to become just a theory. God's word is God speaking toyou and God always tells it like it is.

Satan knows that God’s interest and yours are identical. He knows thatGod and you are working together. He knows that God cannot let you fail, whileyou trust his word, for he could not do that without seeing himself fail, and thishe cannot do.

Don’t give up. When you have prayed in faith believing, hold fast to yourconfession of faith, stand fast in the faith and be strong in the Lord. God willnever let you down. Lay claim to your covenant rights. Then God will get theglory, and you will get your victory.

Mark 11:22-24 KJV(22) And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.(23) For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Bethou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, butshall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall havewhatsoever he saith.(24) Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believethat ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

Believe in Your Personal FaithDon’t depend on other people’s faith! Each of us has an individual right to

pray for and receive every blessing promised to the believer.

Mark 11:24 (KJV)Therefore I say unto you, What things so ever ye desire, when ye pray,

believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. God’s promises are for youpersonally. Jesus told us many times, everyone that asks receives. God wants youto clearly understand that he wants you to freely ask for the things you need or want.

Page 20: The Authority Of The Church, THAU157 · Kenneth Hagin’s Testimony In 1952 Christ appeared to me in a vision. At the end of the vision I saw an evil spirit come between me and Jesus,

Matthew 7:7-8 KJV(7) Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall beopened unto you:(8) For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to himthat knocketh it shall be opened.

Please understand that God wants you to fully understand that he is talkingto you personally and individually. This means you!

God wants you to understand that his children all have equal rights. He hasno favorites; he expects each one of us to have faith and to ask according to ourneeds or desires. Jesus says: the ones who come to me I will in no wise cast out. That means you. Christ is saying: those that come to me for any need, whatever itmay be, I will not refuse them.

John 15:7 Jesus says, if you live in me, and my words live in you, ye shall askwhat ye will and it shall be done unto you. That means you!

Romans 10:9 KJV(9) That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe inthine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

In order for you to be healed, you must have the right to do your ownasking, your own unbelieving, your own claiming, your own receiving, then youwill be healed.

Many Christians are depending on other people’s prayers and otherpeople’s faith, as though others were closer to God than they are, as thoughothers could pray better than they, as though God would hear the prayers ofothers quicker than their own prayers. Please remember every Christian has equal rights, and it is God’s will anddesire that each of his children claim and accept all of his blessings.

Remember Jesus said many times, everyone that asks receives. Rememberthat every Christian that was ever saved had to ask, believe in his heart andconfess that Jesus Christ is Lord or he never could have been saved. He also mustconfess, and believe in his heart that he has been saved.

Page 21: The Authority Of The Church, THAU157 · Kenneth Hagin’s Testimony In 1952 Christ appeared to me in a vision. At the end of the vision I saw an evil spirit come between me and Jesus,

If the statement of Jesus that everyone that asks receives is available to thesinners, how much more it is available to God’s children. That is, if the privilegewas available before you are saved, how much more is it available when you area child of God.

Many Christians have never learned the privilege of asking for themselves. They spend their time and effort asking others to pray for them, to do their ownpraying for them and to ask God for them.

Others may pray for you and with you, but never substitute the prayers ofothers for your own asking, because Jesus said, everyone that asks receives. Youneed to be the one asking. If you’re ever going to be strong in faith, you mustlearn to ask God for yourself.

God intends that every [each one] believer should be a victor, an overcomer and a conqueror. Every promise in God’s word personally belongs to you.

Hebrews 11:6 KJV(6) But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God mustbelieve that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

2 Corinthians 5:7 KJV(7) (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)

We receive our inheritance by our faith, personally and individually and itincludes all things that are promised in God’s word. The scriptures say all thingsthat pertain unto life and godliness have been given unto us.

Lesson 6

“The Authority of the Church”

Dr. T. L. Osborn’s Comments

Every blessing which Christ died to provide is the private property of everyperson for whom he died. The Bible tells us that every snake-bitten Israelite, whenthey looked on the brazen serpent, lived. Every one of them had to do their ownlooking at the brazen serpent.

The people were near to death, but when they cried to the Lord, he sent hisword and healed them.

Tens of thousands of times in our great campaigns, people have been healedof all manner of sicknesses, diseases and infirmities while they were in theaudience-healed through their own faith, which they had received through hearingthe word of God.

Faith is believing that God will do what he said in his word that he will do.God has never asked anyone to believe him for anything that he has not promisedin his word to do. God has said: I am the Lord who heals you.

The prophet Isaiah said: he [Jesus] was wounded for our transgressions, andwith his stripes we are healed.

Jesus said to the leper: I will; make thee clean. Matthew 8:3. To the blindman, he said: receive thy sight, Luke 18:42. Peter said: his own self bares our sins;by whose stripes ye were healed, 1 Peter 2:24.

Jesus said: they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover, and in myname they shall cast out devils, Mark 16:17-18

James said: is any sick among you? The prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up, James 5:14 – 15.

Page 27: The Authority Of The Church, THAU157 · Kenneth Hagin’s Testimony In 1952 Christ appeared to me in a vision. At the end of the vision I saw an evil spirit come between me and Jesus,

26

Faith is merely believing that God will do the things, which he said in hisword that he would do, if we would only believe. If you can believe, all things arepossible to them that believe, Mark 9:23

We can sum up the matter by quoting the command of Jesus: have faith in God, Mark 11:22.

Faith will always move the hand of God. Faith always possesses. Faith is apersistent force. Faith relies on the ability of God. Faith knows no defeat. Faiththrives on a test. Faith never argues. Faith never gets excited. Faith never brags onitself. Faith is never nervous. Faith is never overpowered.

Faith looks directly to the word of God. Faith knows what God has said, because it has been born by the word of God. Faith knows that what God says is arevelation of what it is his will to do.

Faith accepts God’s word as final. Faith claims that word and steps out on it.Faith possesses the promises. Faith demands results. Faith claims his covenantrights.

One reason is, when one fears, trembles and becomes nervous, faith standssteadfast and immovable because it knows what God has said. That settles thematter with faith. Faith is invincible. Be grounded in the word of God. Keep hisword. That way you will know his will.

Bring your request to him and leave the results with him. Give him a chanceto do for you what he is been waiting so long to do, but could not until you areready to act on his word in faith.

Do as Abraham did, he believed God. And being not weak in faith, hestaggered not the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, givingglory to God: being fully persuaded that what God had promised, he was able alsoto perform Romans 4:19-21.

Right now go to God ask him for any of his promises that you want him tofulfill for you. Ask him to do it. Pray the prayer of faith for that promise; placeyour order in the lap of faith and turn it loose. Trust it to the heavenly authorities totake it through and to bring you the order properly filled. Don’t keep praying againand again for the thing desired. Release your faith and let it bring you the answer.

Maintain this attitude of faith. Refuse to be moved. Let nothing keep youfrom your stand on the promise of God, and your prayer will be answered to the

fullest extent, for God will say to you: go your way and as you have believed so beit done to you.

We are set free from the curse of the law.

Galatians 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made acurse for us. What is the curse of the law? It is recorded in Deuteronomy, chapter28, there we are told that the following diseases came upon the people because oftheir disobedience to the laws of God: pestilence, consumption, fever, inflammation, extreme burning, botch, scab, it’s, blindness, submitting in theknees and in the leg, and failing of the eyes.

Some things are not definitely stated in this list, when that’s the case listen toverse 60 – 61 of this chapter: all the diseases of Egypt, and also every sickness andevery disease which is not written in the book of this law. These words are for youand your case.

Paul tells us that Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, because hewas made a curse for us. The curse of the law includes all diseases, every sickness, and a replay known throughout the history of the world.

In order for Christ to redeem us from this terrible curse of the law, Jesus wasmade a curse for us; that is, he bore for us the punishment prescribed by the law. That is why he had to take our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses Matthew 8:17.

Adam and Eve sold us into slavery to the devil and put us in bondage to hispower, under his jurisdiction. But Christ has redeemed us, he has bought us back.

Jesus has purchased us with the price of his own body and blood, and freedus from the curse of the law. You are bought with a price: therefore, glorify God inyour body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

What a thrill to know that God so loved us that he paid a great price for ourredemption. He gave his son as our substitute, who assumed our guilt, bore ourjudgment and endured our condemnation in order to absolve us of all debt andobligation to Satan's regime, so that we could be restored to God as though no sinhad ever been committed. He legally redeemed us. He proved how much he valuedus and wants to be able to share his best with us, his abundant life. God so lovedthe world that he gave his only begotten son.

28

That is the kind of love we cannot understand-- God’s love.

Salvation is your deliverance from everything outside of God’s will formankind. Now you can act accordingly. You may speak the language of thewinner.

Confess your freedom, instead of your bondage. Confess: with his stripes, Iam healed, instead of your sickness. Confess your redemption from all disease.Confess that your redemption is complete-- from sin and sickness.

Confess that Satan’s dominion over you ended at Calvary, because it wasthere that God freed you. God’s word states all of this, so confess it.

Lesson 7

“The Authority of the Church”

Ephesians 2:1-7 KJV(1) And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;(2) Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in thechildren of disobedience:(3) Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of ourflesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature thechildren of wrath, even as others.(4) But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,(5) Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (bygrace ye are saved;)(6) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places inChrist Jesus:(7) That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in hiskindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

This passage also tells us about the conferring of this authority. Notice thatthe head and the body are naturally raised together. Christ is the head and thechurch is the body. We are seated with him. The authority is conferred not onlyupon the head but also upon the body because the head and the body are one.

When you think of a person you think of their head and body. If we as achurch can ever get the revelation of the fact that we are Christ, then we aregoing to rise up and do the work of Christ. We have been doing that in only alimited manner. When we realize that the authority that belongs to Christ, belongs to the individual members of the body of Christ and is available to all ofus, then our lives will be changed forever.

Page 31: The Authority Of The Church, THAU157 · Kenneth Hagin’s Testimony In 1952 Christ appeared to me in a vision. At the end of the vision I saw an evil spirit come between me and Jesus,

Ephesians 1:19 KJV(19) And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,

Ephesians 1:20-23 KJV(20) Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set himat his own right hand in the heavenly places,(21) Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and everyname that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:(22) And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over allthings to the church, [For The Benefit of the Church], (23) Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

He is telling us that according to the working of the strength of his might;when he raised Jesus from the dead he also raised his people from the dead. Thesame verse which expresses the reviving of Christ, expresses the reviving of hispeople. In other words, the act of God which raised Christ from the dead alsoraised his body or the church. In the mind of God, when Jesus was raised fromthe dead we were raised from the dead also.

1 Corinthians 12:12 KJV(12) For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of thatone body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.

1 Corinthians 12:13-14 KJV(13) For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews orGentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into oneSpirit.(14) For the body is not one member, but many.

1 Corinthians 12:27 KJV(27) Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.

In second Corinthians 6:14, 15, it says, be not unequally yoked togetherwith unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness?

Page 32: The Authority Of The Church, THAU157 · Kenneth Hagin’s Testimony In 1952 Christ appeared to me in a vision. At the end of the vision I saw an evil spirit come between me and Jesus,

And what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christwith [worthless] Belial? Or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? Thebeliever is called righteousness and the unbeliever is called unrighteousness. Thebeliever is called light and the unbeliever, darkness. The believer is called Christand the unbeliever, Belial [worthless].

First Corinthians 6:17 says but he that is joined unto the Lord is oneSpirit. We are one with Christ. We are Christ. We are seated at the right hand ofthe Majesty on high. We are seated with him in Heavenly places. All things havebeen put under our feet. The spirit tells us, now my people give heed into myword. So you shall be delivered from the bondage of death and shall walk in thenewness of life. We died with him.

But he has raised us up together now with him. We are made to sittogether and yet we hardly know anything about it as a church.

The right hand of the throne of God is the center of power of our universe. The power of God's throne was committed unto the ascending Christ. Thatauthority belongs to us. We know that Christ with his resurrection physical body isthere in full possession of His rights awaiting the Father's time, when his enemiesshall be made his footstool. Hebrews 1:13 says but to which of the angels said he atany time. Set on my right hand, until I make thy enemies thy footstool? We sharewith Jesus in the Heavenlies for no other meaning than that we are made to sharehis authority. We have been made to sit with him and share his throne. To share athrone means without question to partake of the authority which the thronerepresents.

Thank God, that in his plan we have been elevated to this place that wemay exercise to the extent of our spiritual comprehension our authority over thepower of the air. Some of us have exercised a little more authority than othersbecause we have a little more spiritual understanding than others.

But God wants us all to have that spiritual understanding. The spirit prayedthrough Paul that all might have Christ’s wisdom and understanding, to put astop to Satan’s ceaseless manipulation of the minds of mankind.

God made the earth and the fullness thereof, and he gave Adam dominionover all the works of his hand. In other words, Adam was the God of this world. But he committed high treason and sold out to Satan. Then Satan, through Adam, became the God of this world.

Page 33: The Authority Of The Church, THAU157 · Kenneth Hagin’s Testimony In 1952 Christ appeared to me in a vision. At the end of the vision I saw an evil spirit come between me and Jesus,

Ephesians 6:12 says, for we wrestle not against flesh and blood, butagainst principalities, against powers, against spiritual wickedness in high places. The word of God teaches us that these evil spirits are holders of authority, andthat they have been dethroned by the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus dethroned themand now we can reign over them.

While Satan is called the God of this world, a Bible talks about the secondman Adam, Christ, who became our substitute. All that Jesus did was for us.Most people believe that sometime in the millennium we will exercise thisauthority. But if that’s so, why does the Bible say that Satan will be bound at thattime?

There won’t be any need to exercise authority then. There’s nothing therethat would hurt or destroy. Our trouble is that we have relegated everything tothe future. We can't have much of anything now, some folks believe. They thinkSatan is running everything down here. We must remember, however, we are inthe world but not of the world. He's not running us. He's not dethroning us. Wecan dominate him. We have authority over him.

We must build these truths into our lives. Naturally speaking, we eatcertain foods every day because doctors tell us our systems need certainvitamins, minerals, and proteins daily to build strong bodies. There our spiritualvitamins that we need to take every day too, in order to be healthy Christians.

Jesus said in Matthew 28:18, all power is given unto me in heaven and inearth, we often pray, now Lord, you do this: and you do that: but the authority onearth is conferred upon us. All authority that can be exercised on the earth has tobe exercised through the church or the body of believers because Christ is nothere.

He's at the right hand of the Father. But we, the body of Christ, are here. All of His orders must be carried out through His body. The authority on earthhas been delegated to us . A lot of problems exist because we permit them, werenot doing anything about them as he tells us to do.

Lots of people endeavor to use this authority, but when circumstancesdon't change immediately, they become disturbed and slip back into the natural. They start talking unbelief, and then they defeat themselves. They give the devildominion over themselves. The Bible says when the enemy shall come in like aflood, the spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him Isaiah 59:19.

I want you to understand about the devil and evil spirits but to not fearthem because Jesus eternally defeated them and he gave to his children powerand authority over them. Whether there be one demon, 10 demons, or a legion ofspirits, they must all obey the command of the believer when it is given in Jesusname.

Lesson 8

“The Authority ofthe Church”

John 3:16 KJV For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son,that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

How wonderful it is to know that God loved us so much that he paid a greatprice for our freedom or redemption.

He gave his son as our substitute, who assumed our guilt, bore our judgmentand endured our condemnation in order to absolve us of all debt and obligation toSatan's regime, so that we could be restored to God as though no sin had ever beencommitted. He legally redeemed us. He proved how much you are valued – and wants us to be able to share his best with us, his abundant life.

God is love, salvation is your freedom from everything outside of God's willfor mankind. Now you can act accordingly. You may speak the language of a winner. God so loved us that he gave his son as our substitute.

Confess your freedom, instead of your bondage. Confess: with his stripes, Iam healed, instead of your sicknesses. Confess your redemption from all disease[Psalms 103:3]. Confess that your redemption is complete, from sin and fromsickness.

Confess that Satan’s dominion over you ended at Calvary, because it wasthere that God freed you. God’s word states all of this, so confess it.

Tell Satan you found the truth, the truth that sets you free from him. Let himknow by your confession of God’s word, that you are free from his domain and thatyou know it.

The statement, he, Jesus, has borne our grief [sicknesses] and carried oursorrows [diseases] is God’s promise of a perfect healing. Confess it and perfecthealth will be manifest in your body .

The sicknesses and diseases of your body were laid on Jesus. You need neverbear them, because he has borne them for you. All you need to do is believe thisand begin to confess it.

Galatians 2:20 KJV(20) I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless, I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth inme: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God,who loved me, and gave himself for me.

When Jesus was crucified, I was crucified with him. When they buried JesusI was buried with him. When Jesus arose from the grave as a conqueror, I arosewith him as a conqueror Colossians 13:1, Romans 6:4-5. He has quickened us[made us alive] together with Christ; and has raised us up together with Christ.

Satan, the sickness you tried to put on me was destroyed on the cross ofCalvary, for me, and I do not have to bear it. I command you, in Jesus name, leavemy body. I’m free from your curse, for it is written: with his stripes I am healed, soI am healed. Jesus said so. Satan, you are a liar, your pains are lies, your symptomsare lies, and your words are lies. You are the father of lies, Jesus said you are.

Then begin to praise God for your deliverance. You are set free and Satan is adefeated foe, don't allow him to intimidate you or to make you believe that he hasany control over you, because he does not. Only you can allow him to control yourlife, put a stop to it now, just say in Jesus name Satan get behind me and he has togo.

When Jesus went back to the throne and sat on the right hand of God, hemade us sit together with him in heavenly places. We are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus our Lord. Through Jesus Christ, God made us what we areand that is a new creation second Corinthians 5:17 if anyone be in Christ, thatperson is a new creature, old things are passed away, behold all things are becomenew.

In Romans 8:37, Paul says, in all these things, we are more than conquerors, through him that loved us. We are now new creations, made in the image andlikeness of God through the power of Jesus Christ, God gives us his nature, hislove, his faith, his life, his spirit, his power. We are re-created, made new.

All that Jesus did was for us. Everything he conquered was for us. He had noneed to conquer Satan for himself. He had no sin of his own, because he had no sinuntil he took our sins. He did all of this for us.

Jesus had no need to put away sickness for himself, because he had nosickness until he was made sick with our sickness. He did this for us. He conquered

35

Page 37: The Authority Of The Church, THAU157 · Kenneth Hagin’s Testimony In 1952 Christ appeared to me in a vision. At the end of the vision I saw an evil spirit come between me and Jesus,

for us; and now that we are re-created in Christ Jesus and are made partakers withhim, we become conquerors also through him. Remember in all these things, weare more than conquerors, through Jesus Christ that loved us.

Jesus death, burial, and resurrection was for us, all the Jesus did was for us,and we are now partakers of his victory. We were prisoners, but Jesus has set usfree from that prison. We were cursed by sin and sickness; but Jesus, ourRedeemer, has freed us from the curse and loosed us from its domain. We wereweak, but the Lord has put our weakness away and he has become our strength, sonow we are strong. We were bound and imprisoned, but Christ has freed

us from slavery. We were sick, but Christ has borne our sicknesses and carriedthem away, so now, with his stripes we are healed.

We don’t have to be a slave any longer. We are free. Shout your freedom tothe world. Confess your freedom. Believe in your freedom. Redemption is a fact.Act on your liberty. Your bondage has past. Your prison is open. Your freedom ishereby granted.

Isaiah 61:1 the Spirit of the Lord is upon me; because the Lord has anointedme to preach good tidings to the meek; he is sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,to proclaim liberty to the captives, and to open prison doors to them that are bound.

Satan can never harm you unless you let him. Always remember Psalms 34:7,the angel of the Lord encampment round about them that fear [reverence] Himand delivers them. You never need to be fearful in the presence of God's angelsand of the Lord himself at your home. And Jesus said I will never leave you nor forsake you, he's always there. If disease or sickness are threatening you, do notconfess it. Confess God's word: with his stripes, I am healed. You must say whatGod says, confessing his word. Disease gains the upper hand when you agree withthe testimony of your natural senses. Your five senses have no place in the roundof faith.

Confessing disease, sickness, pain and problems, is like signing for a packageat the post office. Satan then has received, your confession, from you, showing thatyou have accepted his package. Do not accept anything sent from Satan. Eventhough your five senses might testify that it has come to you, refuse to confess it.Look for the promise in the word that gives you victory. Always remember youwere healed, it is a finished work and it belongs to you.

36

Page 38: The Authority Of The Church, THAU157 · Kenneth Hagin’s Testimony In 1952 Christ appeared to me in a vision. At the end of the vision I saw an evil spirit come between me and Jesus,

Sickness comes from the devil. When you tell your troubles and sicknesses, you’re giving testimony to Satan’s ability to get you into trouble in sickness whenyou talk about your sickness and disease your glorifying the adversary who had theability to put their disease or sickness on you.

People like sympathy and pity. These can never help your pain. Sympathycan never get you well. Sympathy is us suffering with another. What you need isnot sympathy, but substitution, which is suffering for another. Jesus did not cometo be your sympathizer. He became your substitute, which is suffering for another.

We as Christians often pray for the sick, our position as believers is not tosympathize with the sick and pity them because of their pain, but to assumeauthority over disease on the basis of Christ’s substitution and we command painsand sicknesses to leave in Jesus name.

Let me finish this lesson with Joshua 1:9 God said unto Joshua: be strong andof good courage; be not afraid, neither be dismayed, for the Lord your God is withyou. Then he said there shall not any person be able to stand before you all the daysof your life. And Jesus says to you, behold I give you power over all the powers ofthe enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. That is Luke 10:19.

Lesson 9

“The Authority of the Church”

We must learn to confess God’s word or what he has said in his wordabout us and our situation. He tells us that no power can succeed against you. Byconfessing his word, you are always a victor. God knows no defeat, and neitherdoes his word. Luke 1:37, with God nothing is impossible, praise God PraiseGod. He also says and nothing shall be impossible to you. Matthew 17:20.

We must all begin to see that by using these two weapons, God's word andJesus name, nothing shall be impossible to us. No weapon that Satan may try tobring against us can prosper but these weapons we are talking about will prosper.Confess that, we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. Confess: Ican do all things through Christ who strengthens me. You cannot know defeatusing God's word. They are eternal. They are all-powerful. They aresupernatural. We must confess that God has taken us out of the realm of failure and put us where victory, peace, joy, strength, and health prevail. As we make these bold confessions and act on the word of God, our faith becomes strong and will change you. It will change your ministry. It will change your life.

38

Page 40: The Authority Of The Church, THAU157 · Kenneth Hagin’s Testimony In 1952 Christ appeared to me in a vision. At the end of the vision I saw an evil spirit come between me and Jesus,

We Are ConquerorsJesus put sin and disease away for us, and in the name of Jesus we have

dominion over Satan and the works of his hands. In Jesus name we cast outdemons. In his name we lay hands on the sick and they do recover. If we cancast out demons, we can also command the demon disease to leave our bodies;disease was brought there by a demon and is being developed by a demon.

We can say, in Jesus name, demon, leave this body. The demon is underobligation to the name of Jesus, to go. When Jesus arose from the dead, he arosebecause we with him had conquered Satan.

Colossians 2:15, having despoiled the principalities and powers, he madea show of them openly, triumphing over them in it. Jesus’ triumph is ourtriumph. Jesus’ victory is our victory. He did nothing for himself but for us.Today we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

We should never talk about disease. When we talk about troubles to peopleit is always to get their sympathy. The trouble comes from the adversary Satan. When we tell our troubles, we are giving our testimony of Satan’s ability to get usinto difficulty. When we talk about our diseases, we are glorifying the adversarywho had the ability to put the disease upon us.

When we confess our lack of strength or ability, we confess that Satan has soblinded us that we cannot enjoy our rights and privileges.

Psalms 27:1, Jehovah is my light and my salvation: whom shall I fear?Jehovah is the strength of my life: of whom shall I be afraid?

God has made him to be wisdom unto us. He has made him to be redemptionunto us. If t h i s is true than Satan has no right to reign over us with sickness, disease, weakness, or failure.

Every time we talk of our troubles, we are glorifying the being who put thetroubles on us, our confession should be that God is today our strength, ourwisdom, our complete and perfect redemption, and sanctification, andrighteousness.

39

Page 41: The Authority Of The Church, THAU157 · Kenneth Hagin’s Testimony In 1952 Christ appeared to me in a vision. At the end of the vision I saw an evil spirit come between me and Jesus,

We are the righteousness of God in him. We can do all things in him whostrengthens us. Today the name of Jesus on our lips can conquer disease andsickness. The name can bring courage and victory to the defeated and the whipped.

Baby ChristiansMany that have been Christians for a long time are still baby Christians.

Because there has been no spiritual growth or development they are still babiesin Christ Jesus,

Christians who have not yet come to the place where the word rules themand governs their thinking are carnally minded men and women. They are calledbaby Christians, carnally minded, fleshly, they are ruled by the flesh, by whatthey see with their eyes, what they feel, hear, taste, and smell.

First Corinthians 3:1-3, And I, brethren, could not speak into you asspiritual, that is, men whose spirits have gained the ascendancy over theirthinking. Their spirit is re-created, but the unrenewed mind rules their spirit.

I could not speak unto you as men whose minds are subordinate to the wordof God. Their minds were not renewed. They were still baby Christian.

Hebrews 5:11 – 14, of whom we have many things to say, and hard to beuttered, seeing ye are become dull of hearing. How many of us fall into thiscategory, many do not understand God’s word? The word of righteousness isvery little understood. Many have never had an experience of living inrighteousness. Righteousness means the ability to stand in the presence of theFather, or of demons, or of sickness and disease, without the sense of inferiority, condemnation, or of sin consciousness.

Those who live righteousness, or who know by the word that they are therighteousness of God in Christ, are absolute Masters over circumstances, demons, and disease.

Second Corinthians 5:21, him who knew no sin, he made to be sin on ourbehalf; that we might become the righteousness of God in him. If you areexperienced in the word of righteousness, you’re finding that it is the word that

40

Page 42: The Authority Of The Church, THAU157 · Kenneth Hagin’s Testimony In 1952 Christ appeared to me in a vision. At the end of the vision I saw an evil spirit come between me and Jesus,

heals. Is there any among you sick? There should be no sick people among us,because by his stripes ye are healed.

It is the word of righteousness that sets men free, redeemed out of Satan’sdominion and into the liberty and freedom of the sons of God. How fearless theybecome. How mighty they speak. The believer described here has grown up intoa spiritual life in Christ. He has fed on the word until the word has transfiguredhim.

James 5:14 – 16, Is Gods method of healing the carnally minded, or thebabies in Christ Jesus. God's mercy and grace goes on and on even for those thatnever grew up in his word. He tells us: let him call for the elders of the church;let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and theprayer of faith shall save him that is sick, and the Lord shall raise him up and ifhe has committed sins it shall be forgiven him. Confess therefore your sins one toanother, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The supplication of arighteous man availeth much in its workings.

Notice very carefully these facts. He cannot see that his disease was laidon Christ, but he can see the elders, hear their prayers, and feel the anointing oilupon his for head. He can feel their hands upon his head. He is living in the realmof the senses. Grace then comes down and meets him in this realm. If he hadtaken vantage of his privileges in Christ, he would have acted on first John 1:9, ifwe confess our sins He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and tocleanse us from all unrighteousness.

This Scripture is for Christians, who have not taken advantage of theirprivileges in Christ, he could have looked up and said, Father forgive me for thethings I have done which allowed my sickness. The Father would have forgivenhim and healed him.

But he has to see and feel before you can believe. He belongs to theThomas class of faith, when I see, I will believe. Practically all the faith that menhad in Jesus before his death and resurrection was sense knowledge faith. Theybelieve in the things they saw and heard. They could not believe in aresurrection. They had never seen a resurrection.

They had seen Lazarus raised from the dead. He was simply raised, brought back to life again. He was not resurrected; he died again. Oh the grace of

our Lord Jesus Christ that comes down to our level and meets us where wecannot apparently act on the word because we are governed by the senses.

Jesus Christ, Prince of Peace

Our Lord Jesus Christ was a miracle. Being born into the family of God is a great miracle. Answered prayer is a miracle. When prayer does not producemiracles, it is but empty words. A miracle is God moving into the sense realm.Don’t condemn yourself for doubts and fear. Cure them by getting acquaintedwith our Heavenly Father.

Lesson 10

“The Authority of the Church”

The Weapons of Our Warfare

Ephesians 6:10-11 KJV(10) Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.(11) Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against thewiles of the devil.

All believers must be constantly clothed with the armor of God and beaware that the devil is out to destroy them. You must remember that his job is tosteal to kill and to destroy. He and all his evil forces are constantly attacking God's people.

The devil will do everything in his power to keep you from understanding that you have power and authority over him and that he is a defeated foe becauseof what Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior did for you and me. He is out to steal that from you and you must have the knowledge of your power and authority over Satan.

43

Page 45: The Authority Of The Church, THAU157 · Kenneth Hagin’s Testimony In 1952 Christ appeared to me in a vision. At the end of the vision I saw an evil spirit come between me and Jesus,

Remember, God's word does not fail. The enemy will bitterly resist you.He will concentrate all his forces against you in an intense warfare in his attemptto destroy you.

If attacks against your spirit are successfully resisted, then assaults willcome in your mind, body, family, or circumstances. You might as well get readyfor them because they’re coming.

The authority of the believer over Satan is a great fear to him. The spiritprayed through Paul that the eyes of people would be open, that they wouldknow the full provision that has been made for them and their safety. People whoendeavor to teach these truths are often attack by Satan and his evil forces. The devil will try to defeat you in any way that he can. The believer must be constantly arrayed with every kind of armor that the Bibleprovides.

Ephesians 6:10-17 says (10) Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.(11) Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against thewiles of the devil.(12) For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, againstpowers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritualwickedness in high places.(13) Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able towithstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.(14) Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on thebreastplate of righteousness;(15) And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;(16) Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench allthe fiery darts of the wicked.(17) And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is theword of God:

There are several different parts of this armor and it symbolizes certainspiritual attitudes which the believer must maintain. Wearing this armor, the

44

Page 46: The Authority Of The Church, THAU157 · Kenneth Hagin’s Testimony In 1952 Christ appeared to me in a vision. At the end of the vision I saw an evil spirit come between me and Jesus,

believer is protected and unhampered in his ministry of authority. All he needs tobe concerned about is that he keeps his armor bright and well secured about him.

We have first, the girdle of truth, which represents a clear understanding ofGod’s word. Like a soldier’s belt, it holds the rest of the armor in place. Second, there is the breastplate of righteousness.

Is has a twofold application, for first of all Jesus is our righteousness. Firstof all, we put him on. It also indicates our active obedience to the word of God.

Third, our feet are shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. This is a faithful ministry heralding the word of God. Fourth, is the shield

of faith. We know that a shield is a covering for the whole body. This indicatesour complete safety and refuge under the blood of Calvary, where no power ofthe enemy can penetrate.

Then there is the helmet of salvation, which is referred to in firstThessalonians 5:8, as the hope of salvation. The hope of salvation is the onlyhelmet that is able to protect the head in these days of turning from the truth. Then finally there is the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Thisshows that the word of God is to be used in an active sense. The other weaponsare more or less defensive ones.

The 18th verse says, praying always with all prayer and supplication in theSpirit, watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints. We are ready for the prayer fight, now because we have on the armor. Praying inthe spirit gets the job done.

1 John 3:8 KJV(8) He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose, the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the worksof the devil.

Colossians 2:15 KJV(15) And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of themopenly, triumphing over them in it.

45

Page 47: The Authority Of The Church, THAU157 · Kenneth Hagin’s Testimony In 1952 Christ appeared to me in a vision. At the end of the vision I saw an evil spirit come between me and Jesus,

Jesus victory was our victory. He did nothing for himself. He did it all forus. He defeated Satan for us. He spoiled his power for us. He destroyed his workfor us. He conquered him for us.

Satan who is totally defeated, tries to hold his master, the church, which isthe body of Christ, in bondage. According to the New Testament, the church isgiven power and authority over an already defeated Satan. You don't have to letSatan rule and reign over you any longer. Confess that you are a victor. Arisefrom his bondage. Then you be sure you hold fast to your confession of faithwithout wavering. For he is faithful that promised Hebrews 10:23, maintain yourconfession of God's word. Every believer can become Satan’s master. You don't have to wait; youcan do it today . When Jesus arose from the dead, he left an eternally defeated Satan. Always think of Satan as an eternally defeated foe. Think of Satan as oneover which Jesus and you in Jesus name have entire dominion and authority .

The sicknesses and diseases of your body were laid on Jesus. You neednever bear them again, because he has borne them for you. All you need to do isbelieve this and begin to confess it.

Absolutely refuse to allow sickness to stay in your body, because you arehealed with his [Jesus] stripes. If Christians would believe this, it would be theend of so-called chronic ailments in their bodies. Always remember: Satan is adeceiver, a liar and a thief.

Sickness, disease, and infirmities, all were laid on Jesus. He bore them. Hecarried them away, leaving us free and well and healthy. We should rejoice in thecelebration of ours.

Redemption has not become a reality to many. It has been only a theory, adoctrine, or a creed, Satan has taken advantage of this lack of understanding byGod’s children.

We are redeemed from all the power of Satan. That means we are broughtback from the hand of the enemy. We are born again. We are a new creation. Weare freed from the kingdom of darkness. We are no longer slaves of Satan. Sinand sickness no longer rule over us.

You are bought with a price, therefore glorify God in your body, and inyour spirit, which are God’s. How can you glorify God in your body when it isweakened by disease? It is just as impossible to glorify God properly in your

46

body when it is full of sickness as it is to glorify God in your spirit when it’s fullof sin.

Tell the devil, Satan you are a liar. I know I am redeemed, because I haveaccepted Jesus as my Redeemer. I am no longer dwelling on your territory, andyou have no legal right to trespass on my property. It is no longer yours, neitheris it under your jurisdiction. I have been redeemed from your authority by theLord Jesus Christ.

Lesson 11

“The Authority of the Church”

You Have the Power

John 10:10 KJV(10) The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am comethat they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

Jesus said in Luke 10:19, behold I give you power to tread on serpents andscorpions. And over all the powers of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

John 10:10 (KJV)

I am come that they [Gods Children] might have life, and that they might have itmore abundantly. The enemy has been walking on us to long. It is generallythought that the devil is bigger than everybody, that he is running everything. Heis the god of this world, but we are in this world, not of this world.

Paul stated plainly in Romans 5:12, for if by one man’s offense death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and the giftof righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ. One translation says shall reign as kings in life through the one, Jesus Christ.

Are you reigning as a king in this life? My bible says that we can. Are youliving the abundant life, now? My bible says that you can. The Son of God wasmanifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

Luke 10:1-2 KJV(1) After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them twoand two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come.

Page 50: The Authority Of The Church, THAU157 · Kenneth Hagin’s Testimony In 1952 Christ appeared to me in a vision. At the end of the vision I saw an evil spirit come between me and Jesus,

49

(2) Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers arefew: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourersinto his harvest.

Luke 10:8-9 KJV(8) And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as areset before you:(9) And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God iscome nigh unto you.Luke 10:17-20 KJV(17) And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils aresubject unto us through thy name.(18) And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.(19) Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and overall the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.(20) Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; butrather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.

Although the casting out of evil spirits and destroy the works of Satan isvery important in our ministries, the most important subject we as ministers is todeal with is winning the lost into the kingdom of God.

We now know that beyond question Satan is the author of sickness, disease, and pain and our Heavenly Father is the author of life and health. Wenow know that every Christian has power and authority over Satan, demons, andevery evil spirit that Satan sends out. You need never fear Satan again or his evilspirits, he is totally powerless to you in the name of Jesus Christ. Every believerhas authority over Satan, in Jesus name, if they only know it. Many Christiansare defeated and allowing Satan to run over them because they've neverunderstood that Satan is eternally defeated.

SatanAlthough Satan is the God of this world, sec. Cor. 4:4, and he has many

fearful and dreaded names, he is also the author of all our miseries and sorrows, our diseases and pains, of death itself. He is the king and ruler of all demon

Page 51: The Authority Of The Church, THAU157 · Kenneth Hagin’s Testimony In 1952 Christ appeared to me in a vision. At the end of the vision I saw an evil spirit come between me and Jesus,

50

spirits. He rules the dark hosts of hell, yet Jesus defeated him and gave us powerand authority over him and all of his hosts. He can only harm you if you don’tknow that he was eternally defeated and that you have power and authority overhim. Once he knows that you know, that he is eternally defeated and that youhave the power and authority over him, he will fear you and be afraid of you.You do not need to fear him!

Some of Satan’s names: the wicked one, enemy, the devil, accuser, accuserof the brethren, the adversary and is compared to a roaring lion, seeking whomhe may devour. The Dragon, the old serpent which is the devil and Satan. Amurderer, a liar and the father of lies. The tempter, the prince of devils, theprince of the power of air, the prince of this world, the corrupter of minds.

Demons are evil spirits without bodies, they seek for a body to possess.Sense they have no bodies of their own, they must wander through the landseeking a body [Matt. 12;43] in which they can enter and find expression to carryout their evil mission.

The human body has been created in the likeness of God, thereforedemons seek as their highest prize to enter into a human body. But when theycannot find this most prized possession, then a body of an animal or somethingelse will do. But they cannot rest without being in possession of some bodythrough which they can find expression. We can now understand why, whenJesus went to cast out the legion of demons from a maniac, the demons begged, saying, send this into the swine. Mark 5:13 and being cast out of the man, thedemons entered the whole herd of swine and they all ran into the water and weredrowned.

This story shows us how demons resist giving up their prize possession, the body in which they occupy, Jesus said in Mark 16:17 and in Luke 9:1, I giveyou power and authority over Devils, and in my name ye shall cast out devils.

Another story that demonstrates the same thing is found in Matthew 12:43-45,

Matthew 12:43-45 KJV(43) When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.

Page 52: The Authority Of The Church, THAU157 · Kenneth Hagin’s Testimony In 1952 Christ appeared to me in a vision. At the end of the vision I saw an evil spirit come between me and Jesus,

51

(44) Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and whenhe is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.(45) Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked thanhimself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worsethan the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.

We see from this story that is possible for demons to seek reinforcementsand to reenter the person out of whom they have been cast. We can now see theimportance of a person who the demon was cast out of to consecrate completelyto Christ and to understand that they have been given power and authority overthe evil spirits. Even though Satan may send legions of demons to attack you, when you understand that you have the power and authority to cast them out youcan easily defeat them because you have power and authority over all Devils andthe Bible says when the enemy shall come in like a flood, the spirit of the Lordshall lift up a standard against him Isaiah 59:19.

I want you to understand about the devil and evil spirits but to not fearthem because Jesus eternally defeated them and he gave to his children powerand authority over them. Whether there be one demons, 10 demons, or a legionof spirits, they must all obey the command of the believer when it is given inJesus’ name.

Lesson 12

“The Authority of the Church”

Spiritual Wisdom and Understanding

Colossians 1:9-12 is almost unknown: that we may be filled with the exact knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, This is for us today, and it belongs to us. The struggle for faith will have ended and our prayer life will be like the masters.

Colossians 2:9-10:4 in him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily, and inhim you are made full, who is the head of all principality and power. He is notonly our fullness, but we are his fullness. The word fullness means completenessor perfection. We have received of that fullness. We need to understand and seewhat masters we are of demon forces. They are beneath our feet. God alwaysgives us the victory in Christ Jesus our Lord. This is the hallelujah chorus of thenew covenant. And it never becomes real until we begin to confess it, begin totell it to the world, what you are in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Every believer must fully comprehend this and understand that Satan iseternally defeated and that every Christian has power and authority over him and all of his evil forces.

First Corinthians 2:6, we speak wisdom, however, among them that arefull-grown; it is not a wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age who aredethroned, in their master and head Satan. This wisdom for the full-grown issomething that we need to know about. Many of the believers in the church todayare in their infancy, they maybe babies in Christ Jesus. Many of our leaders havenever passed beyond that childhood stage. They are still dominated by the senses.God gave him to be the head over all things for the benefit of the church, whichis his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all. We are that fullness of him.John him: 16, says: of his fullness have we all received.

God put all things in subjection under our Lord's feet and it is sometimesdifficult to fully comprehend it. He tells us that the same ability that was wroughtin the dead body of Jesus when he raised him from the dead is at work within us.The same might, the same resurrection power that was wrought in the dead bodyof Jesus is ours today. And if the Spirit of him who raised up Jesus from the deaddwell within you, he that raised up Christ Jesus from the dead shall also quicken[make alive or strengthen] our mortal bodies.

He also made him to sit at his right hand in the Heavenlies, far above allrule, and authority, and power, and dominion, and every name that is named, notonly in this age, but also in that which is to come. We must also understand andkeep in mind that we were raised together with him, and he made us to sit withhim in the Heavenlies; so representatively, we are seated on the throne of Godwith Jesus Christ. He is the head and we are the body. We are then members ofthe body of Christ.

So if Christ the head is exalted, the body is exalted also with it. If he hasbeen given all authority, that authority belongs to the church, his body. It is forthe benefit of the church. If he conquered all the forces of darkness and left themparalyzed and broken before he rose from the dead, it is as though we hadaccomplished that mighty work.

Hebrews 9:12 tells us that this is an eternal redemption. Not just aredemption for the day in which we live or in which it was done, but that Satan isas much defeated today as he was when Christ arose from the dead; that he is justas subject to the name of Jesus as he was when Jesus conquered him himself.

If we can fully understand [comprehend] that the Lord Jesus Christdefeated Satan as our substitute and that his defeat is eternal. Our redemptionthen will become a reality. When we know that the Lord Jesus Christ, oursubstitute, is the one that defeated him and he set it to our credit, so that in therecords of the Supreme Court of the universe, that we are the masters of Satan, and that Satan knows that in the name of Jesus we are his ruler, when our heartscan know this completely and that it is an absolute fact, then our faith will rise upand great victory will be ours.

Page 55: The Authority Of The Church, THAU157 · Kenneth Hagin’s Testimony In 1952 Christ appeared to me in a vision. At the end of the vision I saw an evil spirit come between me and Jesus,

In Ephesians Paul prayed that our eyes may be opened and enlightened, and that we may know what is the riches of the glory of his inheritance in thesaints, and what is the exceeding greatness of his ability on behalf of those whobelieve ,

It is reckoned to us and set to our credit. When we can fully comprehendthis and take it in, our minds will become fruitful with this mighty unveiling ofwhat we are in Christ today! The 22nd and 23rd versus tell it so clearly: And putall things in subjection under his feet, and he gave him to be head over all thingsfor the benefit of the church! We are his body, then all these wicked influencesand demons are beneath our feet. We are the masters of them. The Lord did notdefeat them for himself. He defeated them for us. He did not fight the battle forhis glory, but for our good. Adam had sold us out but our Lord Jesus redeemed usdefeated our enemy and put him beneath our feet. We must fully comprehendthis and take it in and begin to act accordingly.

Since knowledge has taken the church captive, bound our leaders andholds them captive. Very little is known of spiritual wisdom and revelation in theknowledge of him.

The sin consciousness that destroys our faith will disappear completelywhen we receive the exact and perfect knowledge of our redemption and our righteousness in Christ.

Paul says we must have this in order to walk worthy of the Lord unto allpleasing, bearing fruit in every good work, and increasing in the exact knowledgeof God, made powerful with his ability, according to the might of his glory, and toall steadfastness and long-suffering with joy. What mighty men and women of God this would make us.

We are to give thanks unto our heavenly Father who has given us the ability to enjoy our full share of the inheritance of the saints. We have now passed out of the childhood stage, into the full manhood and womanhood ofChrist Jesus.

What mighty men and women of God this will make us, when we knowthe reality of being delivered out of the authority of darkness, and translated intothe kingdom of the son of his love; in whom we have our redemption and theremission of our trespasses.

You have now been delivered out of the authority of Satan. Satan has noauthority or legal right to reign over you. You are the absolute master of Satan’s forces in the name of Jesus Christ.

It’s important that you see that you hold exactly the same position that Paul held, and you have a right to do as is recorded in Colossians 1:28-29: admonishing every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we maypresent every man perfect in Christ. This is speaking here of the new creationman.

This is talking about all born-again new creation believers we havebecome masters over Satan. We are over comers. We reign with Christ. I hope you can see that with this life and with the power and authority over Satan that has been given to us in the name of Jesus that your prayer life should shake thevery thrones of darkness and completely destroy the works of Satan, think ofSatan and his evil forces as being beneath your feet, conquered, defeated. Takeyour place as an heir and a joint heir with Jesus Christ.

Lesson 13

“The Authority of the Church”

Luke 10:1-2 KJV(1) After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them twoand two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come.(2) Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers arefew: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourersinto his harvest.

Luke 10:8-9 KJV(8) And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as areset before you:(9) And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God iscome nigh unto you.

Luke 10:17-20 KJV(17) And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils aresubject unto us through thy name.(18) And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.(19) Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and overall the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.(20) Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; butrather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.

Page 58: The Authority Of The Church, THAU157 · Kenneth Hagin’s Testimony In 1952 Christ appeared to me in a vision. At the end of the vision I saw an evil spirit come between me and Jesus,

The wicked forces of evil are out to destroy as many individuals as theypossibly can.

John 10:10 KJV(10) The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am comethat they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

There are two great powers that are engaged in a life-and-death struggleover human beings. Our Lord Jesus Christ and Satan.

1 Peter 5:8 KJV(8) Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

1 John 3:8 KJV(8) He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose, the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the worksof the devil.

Satan and His Evil Forces

Second Corinthians 4:4, Satan is the god of this world. He is the prince ofnations. He is the author of all our miseries and sorrows, of our diseases andpains, of death itself. He is the king and ruler of all demon spirits. He rules thedark host of hell. Satan's main purpose and desire is to destroy human life and tobring sorrow to the heart of God our heavenly Father. His names tell you a lotabout him, he is called the wicked one. He is called the enemy, and the devil.Devil means accuser defamer or accuser of the believers, he is called theadversary and is compared to a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. He isdescribed by a group of names almost too hideous to contemplate, the Dragon, the old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan. He is called by Jesus a murder, aliar, and the father of lies. He is called the tempter, the prince of devils, thePrince of the powers of the air. The prince of this world, the corrupter of minds.Demons

Page 59: The Authority Of The Church, THAU157 · Kenneth Hagin’s Testimony In 1952 Christ appeared to me in a vision. At the end of the vision I saw an evil spirit come between me and Jesus,

Human spirits are from God, and we live in a body. Demon spirits arefrom Satan and they have no body in which to dwell or express themselves.Demons can be wicked, hateful and destructive, they have personalities likehumans but they need and desire a body to dwell in.

My body is simply the house my spirit lives in. Someday my body will dieand return to the dust, but I [my spirit] shall never die. I shall return to God fromwhere I came. Demons long to find expression, but cannot do so until they are inpossession of a body. Since Demons have no bodies of their own, they mustwander through the land seeking a body in which they can enter and findexpression to carry out their mission of evil.

Matthew 12:43-45 KJV(43) When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.(44) Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and whenhe is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.(45) Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked thanhimself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worsethan the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.

Satan and demons use other people to do their dirty work. Their greatestpower is to defile, to destroy, and to abuse people through other human beings.God also uses humans to spread his gospel and his message of love, to bless, toinspire, to encourage, and to lift those who need his divine help. His message ofgood news must be reported by human lips. God uses human instruments tominister to the human family likewise Satan uses human instruments to destroythe human family.

The human body has the broadest means of expression, having been theonly creation made in the likeness of God, demons therefore seek as their highestprize to enter into human beings. However, when they cannot find the mostprized possession, then a body of lesser expression will do. But one thing iscertain, they cannot rest without being in possession of some body through whichthey can find expression.

Mark 5:2-13 KJV

Page 60: The Authority Of The Church, THAU157 · Kenneth Hagin’s Testimony In 1952 Christ appeared to me in a vision. At the end of the vision I saw an evil spirit come between me and Jesus,

(2) And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of thetombs a man with an unclean spirit,(3) Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, notwith chains:(4) Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chainshad been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither couldany man tame him.(5) And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.(6) But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,(7) And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thouSon of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.(8) For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.(9) And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name isLegion: for we are many.(10) And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of thecountry.(11) Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding.(12) And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we mayenter into them.(13) And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, andentered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea,(they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea.
