involvement of stakeholders and individuals in

achieving a circular economy. According to him, the

government has the most important role to play,

coming up with strong policies to sustain the

environment and shung down companies that are

not in compliance with environmental rules and

regulaons.

In addion, all individuals must do away with the

“throw away” mentality and embrace the 3Rs;

Reduce, Reuse and Recycling.

GREEN HANGOUTS

The purpose of the Green hangout is to bring together

young like minds to deliberate on acons that would

further lead to the achievement of our goals; the

three pillars of sustainability. It is me to create a

working synergy amongst environmentalists and

climate change actors across the connent.

The foundaon has sponsored five hangouts within

Radio 106.3FM welcomed the parcipants and

expressed her excitement for being part of the Oyo

Green Hangout 4.0, the first environmental gathering

she is aending. Everyone present was asked to

introduce themselves by stang their names, what

they do and why they are passionate about the

environment.

The Opening prayer was said by Miss Balqeez Adebisi

Mr Zadok Adeleye, the Project Team Lead for the

expressed his

e x c i t e m e n t

concerning the youths geng involved to make the

planet sustainable. He urged everyone to network,

discuss and have fun as the program promises to birth

greatness.

Mr Adetunji Lam-Adesina, the Founder of the

foundaon while addressing the parcipants pointed

out that there are several opportunies in the

environmental sector, most especially for young

people because they are the future of not only the

country, but the connent and the enre world. He

also noted that the sector has been neglected for so

long in this connent which is why there is the need to

power up the sector and make sure the leaders and

government directs their aenon towards the

sector. Furthermore, he posits that once the sector is

promoted, the three pillars of sustainability; social,

economic and environment will be achieved. He

encouraged everyone to network as much as possible

and have fun and to feel free to ask quesons from Rt.

Hon. Kehinde Ayoola, the Commissioner for

Environment.

Several quesons such as, what brought about the

name Eleven Eleven Twelve, what we do exactly,

internship and Graduate Trainee program were posed

to Mr Lam-Adesina, which he answered accordingly.

In order to liven things up a bit, the host had a game

session of concentraon were two winners emerged.

Parcipants

There was also an educave session of quesons and

answers relang to the environmental sector and the

SDGs. All the winners went home with branded gi

items. Aer having so much fun with game and

random answering of quesons, the Commissioner

for Environment, Rt. Hon.

K e h i n d e A y o o l a w a s

introduced by the host and

brought forward to aend to

quesons being posed to him

by parcipants.

The commissioner started by

introducing himself and his

team members. He expressed his excitement to be in

the midst of the young ones. He stated that one of the

things youths should take control of now is the

environment because it's our world.

A lot of quesons ranging from Waste management,

generaon of data for easy approach to waste

management issues, law governing the issue of burial

g r o u n d s , m y t h s a n d

tradions as it affects the

environment, enforcement

of laws were asked from the

c o m m i s s i o n e r . T h e

c o m m i s s i o n e r w a s

magnanimous enough to

give answers to all quesons

asked. Among such answers he gave was that Oyo

State is working on translang the regulaons

governing the environment to Yoruba language which

will give a beer understanding to the populace. He

also pointed out that His Excellency, Engineer Seyi

Makinde, the Oyo State Governor recently launched

the new solid waste management iniave which

pinpoints the exact things to do in waste collecon,

storage and conveyance which will also give chance to

weighing of waste. This will

help monitor the PSP, waste

they carry and how they will

be paid.

The commissioner further

explained that poor atude of

people to proper waste

management is mostly caused

by myths and tradions. He sighted an example of a

slight flood that occurred at Olodo last year and how

one of the residents said the reason for the flood is

their refusal to make sacrifices/lack of quality sacrifice

to Yemoja. He stated that there is already a plan to

incorporate the solid waste component into the

Ibadan flood management scheme and the

government is focusing on

Educaon, Enlightenment,

p ro v i s i o n o f a d e q u ate

informaon among other

things.

Rt. Hon. Kehinde Ayoola also

noted that the government

prohibits incineraon and

now encourages recycling. He further menoned that

the State will be banning single use plasc very soon

but it can only be brought out if a replacement can be

provided which has actually been provided but halted

a bit because of the present epidemic issue in China.

The commissioner ensured he gave good answers to

every quesons asked and it was obvious that

everyone was sasfied.

A group picture was taken with the commissioner. The

last round of game was tagged the green basket and

was anchored by the host with many branded

materials won by those that answered the quesons

picked correctly. As part of our vision to support like-

minds in the industry in fulfilment of SDG 17;

collaborave effort, opportunity was given to

Recyclegarb a recycling ouit operang in Ibadan to

speak about their upcoming acvies and enlist

people to join them in those acvies.

The General Manager of the foundaon, Barr. Adanna

Kalejaye gave the closing speech, encouraging

everyone to always ensure they engage only in

environmentally sustainable acts. The event ended at

3:44pm with a short closing prayer led by Peter

Salako.

VOYAGE A AKURE

The Eleven Eleven Twelve Team Members embarked

on a trip to Akure on Thursday, the 13th February to

pay the First Lady of Ondo State, Her Excellency,

Arabinrin Bey Anyanwu-Akeredolu a courtesy visit.

We appreciated her passion for the girl child and

women in general and how she has included

environmental acvies in the lessons being taught to

the girls.

She was happy to see us and made remarkable

comment about our involvement in the environment

sector. She engaged us by sharing her stories on how

she has impacted the society through the girl child.

She has trained several girls from across different

states in Nigeria in different skills and how they can be

problem solvers within their sociees which debunk

the noon that the abilies of the girl child are limited.

We sought for possible collaboraons between Her

Excellency's foundaon “Be More” and the Eleven

Eleven Twelve Foundaon to which her response

shows she is always available to partner with us as we

make moves towards a hea l thy and safer

environment.

DURIAN VILLAGE:THE NEXT

We made a stopover at Durian Village to see the great

work Tony Joy and her team members are doing in

Imafon Community, Akure. They are taking great

acons to promote the United Naons Sustainable

Development Goals and create a sustainable and

greener environment.

From the tour, we discovered the act of reusing

a g r i c u l t u r a l w a s t e t o c r e a t e h e a l t h i e r,

environmentally friendly products, teaching women

the art of cras to help them become self-employed.

The village also serves as a plaorm for educang

young minds and creang a welcoming place for

women to come together and discuss a beer future.

This is purely a way of contribung to her

environment. We appreciated her efforts towards

implemenng her ideas to solve environmental

problems with resources most people consider as

“waste.”

CLIMATE STRIKE

“The love we give away is the only love we keep” -

Elbert Hubbard.

In showing our love to the environment we engaged

on a climate strike on Friday, 14th February 2020 at

Preboye's juncon, opposite the University of Ibadan.

There were a total of 11 parcipants including climate

acvists, team members and passersby.

We observed a silent strike for the environment with

our placards high in the sky with the words that plead

for the protecon of our planet.

SPONSORSHIP AND COLLABORATION

In a bid to support efforts and iniaves towards a

sustainable planet, we embrace ideas that are keen

and aligned with our goals and objecves.

ACTION GX, an organizaon that seeks to improve the

quality of the environment and create awareness

among the young people especially in schools and

instuons on the local environmental problems and

opportunies to create innovave soluons was one

of our partners this quarter. On the 18th of February,

2020, we supported the organizaon by contribung

waste drums which are to be distributed to schools.

This is to enhance and encourage children to imbibe

the act of a dy environment and further include them

in environmental affairs as they grow.

ONE DAY ENVIRONMENTAL SENSITIZATION

The United Naons SDG 17 seeks to strengthen global

partnerships to support and achieve the 2030 targets.

That is collaborave effort in reaching the 17 goals. In

line with this, we joined the serving corp members in

sensizing the Market women at Owode Market, in

Oyo town, Oyo State on the 20th February, 2020

The Oyo State Commissioner for Youths and Sport

Hon. Seun Fakorede addressed the parcipants

assuring them of the government's support in keeping

the environment clean and dy. Upon the compleon

of the Honourable Commissioner's speech, the team

moved into a community that has zero knowledge

about waste management. The youths cleaned up the

community and sensized people on the effects of

plasc polluon. They got recyclables from the market

women and encouraged all parcipants to get

involved in walking the talk and becoming change

agents in their various environments. All recyclables

were bought by recycling companies. We supported

this iniave through financial donaon and our

team's presence. The foundaon was ably

represented by Zadok Adeleye and Yemisi Adeegbe.

AKWA IBOM GREEN HANGOUT

The Akwa Ibom Green hangout was held at Discovery

Park, Udo Umana Street, Uyo on the 22nd of February,

2020. The Director and Head of Department and

Climate Change and Awareness, Elder (Mrs) Comfort

Asuquo whi le address ing the parcipants ,

emphasized the need for youth's involvement in

taking acons to reduce the effect of climate change.

She further encouraged that every change that we are

clamouring for must start with the parcipants

present. The lile things w do have a long way in

affecng either posively or negavely, the

environment. The program was a success with

parcipant asking that the next green hangout comes

up in a short me. The hangout was solely funded by

TOWARDS THE OYO STATE GREENINNOVATION CHALLENGE

of their future by ensuring the use

of SDG 17 to get things done as

enormously to the Environment

Sector in the Oyo State Green

Innovaon School Challenge. The

members of IMAGES Iniave and

EET Foundaon team held a

meeng on, Wednesday 11th

March 2020 to discuss at length

about the Oyo State Green

Innovaon School Challenge.

The vision of Africa Innovaon

School Programme was stated and

the president of IMAGES Dr.

Olawale Olayide reiterated the

reason why the challenge is open

to only Public Schools: this is as a

result of the gap and differences

between Public secondary schools

and Private secondary schools

across the naon. He emphasised

that the vision is for the African

connent especially on Agenda

2063. Launching out locally in Oyo

state Nigeria with the mantra,

“Think Globally, Act Locally”.

As an academia, he is passionate

about bridging the gaps in the

Academic circle, he believes that

the academic sector goes beyond

wring papers and journals but

we should also embrace acon.

Mrs Adegoke (Director for Africa

G r e e n I n n o v a o n S c h o o l

Programme) gave a succinct

report on the journey so far

e s p e c i a l l y i n t e r m s o f

collaborave effort with the Oyo

state Ministry of Educaon,

Sc ience and Technology in

securing an approval to carry out

Oyo State Green Innovaon

School Challenge.

The General Manager of Eleven

Eleven Twelve foundaon, Barr.

Adanna Kalejaiye was excited with

the report of IMAGES Iniaves

on a laudable project as this. She

reiterated that IMAGES iniave

i d e a i s a p a r t o f E E T F

o r g a n i s a o n ' s g o a l a n d

emphasised the watch word for

the new decade, which is “Decade

of Acon'. She was impressed

with the allocated amount of

prizes as this seems to be more

substanal compared to prizes

allocated to such compeons in

the educaonal sector. She

advised that Innovave Programs

like this should not be a one –off

program rather it should be

sustained in order to create a long

lasng impact.

M r. A d e t u n j i L a m - A d e s i n a

(Founder; Eleven Eleven Twelve

Foundaon) noted the support of

the foundaon towards the

program.

He connued by saying, the effort

is commendable especially as it

will focus on the connent at

large. He also advised IMAGES

Iniaves to explore other opons

like media support to propagate

the schools innovaon, with this,

the Oyo Green Innovaon School

Challenge will reach a larger

audience leaving no one behind.

Furthermore, he suggested that

contents created by the schools

doing were asked. Suggesons were made by the

audience on how we could manage our waste by

thinking of our environment, sorng our waste and
