Adult Theology Classes

—Are you interested in becoming Catholic? —Were you baptized, but never received Confirmation? —Do you simply want to know more about our faith? RCIA is for you! The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is a year-long program that prepares people to receive all or some of the sacraments of initiation (baptism, confirmation, communion). RCIA will begin in September and meet twice a month on Tues-day evenings. The program culminates with the reception of these sacraments at the Easter Vigil. The program offers a comprehen-sive study of the beliefs of the Catholic Church in a friendly and approachable setting. Topics include the 10 commandments, the seven sacraments, prayer, scripture, the creed, and much more. This program is open to everyone. Even if you have made your sacraments, this is a great opportunity to learn more about our faith. If you’re interested in participating, please email Father Graebe at [email protected], or call the parish office at (212) 226-8075.

Gospel Mk 6:7-13 Jesus summoned the Twelve and began to send them out two by two and gave them authority over unclean spirits. He in-structed them to take nothing for the journey but a walking s ck—no food, no sack, no money in their belts. They were, however, to wear sandals but not a second tunic. He said to them, “Wherever you enter a house, stay there un l you leave. Whatever place does not welcome you or listen to you, leave there and shake the dust off your feet in tes mony against them.” So they went off and preached repentance. The Twelve drove out many demons, and they anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them.

2022 MASS BOOK

The 2022 Mass book will be open for inten ons in the parish office star ng Monday, August 2. We will be accep ng inten-

ons for January 1 through June 30, 2022. Please note that there will be a limit to two (2) inten ons per family, in order to allow as many people as possible to have their inten ons hon-ored. If you would like addi onal inten ons, we will be happy to offer unannounced Masses or we will contact you as we get closer with dates that remain available. Thank you for your understanding.

First Reading Am 7:12-15 Amaziah, priest of Bethel, said to Amos, “Off with you, visionary, flee to the land of Judah! There earn your bread by prophesying, but never again prophesy in Bethel; for it is the king’s sanctuary and a royal temple.” Amos answered Amaziah, “I was no proph-et, nor have I belonged to a company of prophets; I was a shep-herd and a dresser of sycamores. The LORD took me from fol-lowing the flock, and said to me, Go, prophesy to my people Israel.”

Second Reading Eph 1:3-14 or 1:3-10 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavens, as he chose us in him, before the founda on of the world, to be holy and without blemish before him. In love he des ned us for adop on to himself through Jesus Christ, in accord with the fa-vor of his will, for the praise of the glory of his grace that he granted us in the beloved. In him we have redemp on by his blood, the forgiveness of transgressions, in accord with the rich-es of his grace that he lavished upon us. In all wisdom and in-sight, he has made known to us the mystery of his will in accord with his favor that he set forth in him as a plan for the fullness of mes, to sum up all things in Christ, in heaven and on earth. In him we were also chosen, des ned in accord with the pur-pose of the One who accomplishes all things according to the inten on of his will, so that we might exist for the praise of his glory, we who first hoped in Christ. In him you also, who have heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salva on, and have believed in him, were sealed with the promised holy Spirit, which is the first installment of our inheritance toward redemp-

on as God’s possession, to the praise of his glory.

A Message from Cardinal Dolan

As we embark on this new decade, together in faith, I invite us to remember the mission to which we are all called. It is the task of every genera on to take the faith that we’ve received and share it with others. This is what the Lord calls us to do: to teach, to serve, and to sanc fy the world, by proclaiming the truth and making disciples of all na ons. This work is most effec vely accomplished through the ministry of the Church – in our parishes, our schools, our religious orders, our seminaries, and the many charitable services that are de-signed to respond to the evolving needs of our communi es. This is the work that the Cardinal’s Annual Stewardship Ap-peal makes possible through your generous dona ons. The works that are represented in the Cardinal’s Appeal make tangible the mission of the Church in our communi es at a

me when – some might say – the world is most in need of such a witness. Please visit cardinalsappeal.org to make your gi . I thank you for your con nued support of the Cardinal’s Annu-al Stewardship Appeal.

Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ on my right, Christ on my left, Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down, Christ when I arise, Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me, Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me.
