Monument Lake Resort Fishing RetreatThe Mt. Carmel Health Wellness & Community Center in Trinidad, Colorado is pioneeringa new program to support active duty troops. The Returning Heroes Program, whichbegan last year with a fun-filled weekend of skiing, snowboarding and professionalinstruction in Breckenridge, Colorado for Ft. Carson soldiers and their spouses is nowhosting a third session with the first Weekend Wellness Fishing Retreat at MonumentLake, west of Trinidad, Colorado. Twelve recently deployed military couples who were invited to attend this inspiring
retreat will be arriving Tuesday, June 17th and will begin their venture with a drive throughTrinidad to introduce them to the beauty and uniqueness of the city. The Primero Café atMt. Carmel will host lunch and a "Meet and Greet" with community leaders. They willthen be whisked off to the mountains and Monument Lake Resort for three days ofindividually guided fishing instruction, relaxation, and an opportunity to reconnect withtheir spouses. The mission of the Returning Heroes Program is to bring together recently deployedmilitary couples for an enjoyable retreat to reconnect with their spouses and build newfriendships with fellow team members. Research reveals that 97% of divorces occurredafter a return from deployment, that's why Mt. Carmel felt the need to develop the Returning Heroes Program. Listen to what the couples said about it.
100th Anniversary of Ludlow Massacre Update Entitled "A Night of Remembrance," the Dinner and Theater performance on May 16th at
the Mt. Carmel Chapel Theater complex did indeed evoke a memorable night of reflection to
a sold-out crowd. Representative of a meal Ludlow families may have had in 1913, Mary
Falsetto-Strange and crew of Mt. Carmel's Primero Cafe & Catering served a simple but hardy
meal.
After dinner, the audience made its way to the Mt. Carmel Chapel and Theater. The
evening's guests experienced a two-part production which vividly brought to light many of the
events and struggles experienced by the Ludlow miners and their families.
The first part of the production entitled "Memoirs: The Life of a Ludlow Miner" was a
reenactment by Silvio Caputo and his wife Rosalie. Their characters brought attention to the
struggles, sufferings, injustices, and oppressive living conditions of the Ludlow miners.
The second half of the production began with a special tribute to the family members of
Louis T ikas, who was killed at Ludlow. This was followed with a drama and musical
presentation by the Colorado Springs Conservatory.

Fun in the Summer Sun Summer is in full swing and many people are spending their timeoutdoors enjoying the sun and warmth. Beware, the sun feels goodand makes us feel good, but the damage it causes our skin can putus at risk for adverse effects. We often associate a glowing complexion with good health, butskin color obtained from being in the sun - or in a tanning booth-
actually accelerates the effects of aging and increases your risk for developingskin cancer. The best defense is staying out of the sun.....but this is not alwayspossible. Wearing protective clothing, sunglasses, and a wide brim hat will help. Puttingon sunscreen with at least SPF 15 is advisable. Sunscreen should be appliedeveryday just as brushing your teeth is a daily event. Sun exposure causes most of the skin changes that we think of as a normalpart of ageing. Over time, the sun's ultraviolet (UV) light damages the fibers in theskin called elastin. When these fibers break down, the skin begins to sag, stretch, and lose its ability to go back into place after stretching. The skin also bruises andtears more easily --taking longer to heal. So while sun damage to the skin may notbe apparent when your young, it will definitely show later in life.
Tips from DocsSummertime and Outdoor Toys for Children
Children's outdoor toys are of great benefit to both parents and their
children. They help in exercise and provide entertainment. But there are a
few things which parents must keep in mind before cutting their children
loose to enjoy the backyard. 1) Children ALWAYS need someone to
watch and guide them. 2) Always follow the age range posted before
purchasing your jungle gyms or other toys. 3) Check for sharp or rough
edges on older equipment 4) Make sure there is a soft landing spot below outdoor
equipment to break falls 5) Always follow the manufacturer's direction in assembling toys
properly and read the manuals carefully 6) Now go out and "Enjoy your children's laughter
and energy"
