Hey-ho, the wind

STORM Ciara battered the district at theweekend, bringing down trees andprompting police to warn people againsttravelling unless absolutely necessary.

The operational policing unit at War-wickshire Police said it cleared 19 treesfrom county roads, with members of thepublic assisting officers in some cases.

The A46 was one of the roads affectedas officers removed a fallen tree andstray traffic cones.

Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Servicealso advised people to stay indoors onSunday to avoid flying debris.

A Met Office yellow warning for highwinds has now been lifted but the possi-bility of further rain and wind remains.

The district appeared to have avoidedmajor flooding, although a flood alertwas in force on the River Arrow andRiver Alne, with floodwater affectinglow-lying roads between Studley andSalford Priors.

At SG Doors we specialise in the fitting of bespoke double skinned, insulated, remote control, electric roller garage doors that can be supplied to your specifications, including a range of different colours. We also fit composite front doors.

Roller Garage Doors are efficient space savers; rather than swinging the door to the side or outwards in front of the garage, the roller system means the doors roll directly up into a to roll system mounted above the door frame.

GAIN EXTRA GARAGE SPACE

The space saving allows you to park close to the garage door with no risk and also saves space inside the garage. It also removes the danger of outward swinging garage doors striking unseen persons or objects outside.

SAFER THAN CONVENTIONAL GARAGE DOORS

Essentially a Roller Garage Door is an insulated double skin aluminium curtain protecting your garage. With the double side brush in the guide runners and a curtain that rolls right to the floor, it excludes draughts and is effcient andconvenient at both restricting and allowing access to the garage.

ROBOTS building parts for carswere the subject of a day trip forpupils from Stratford PrimarySchool.

The pupils visited Jaguar LandRover as part of a bid to promoteStem subjects – science, technology, engineering and maths.

Teacher Jo Ingate accompanied thepupils for the visit to Wolver-hampton, which was also aimed at

giving the children an insight intopossible careers one day.

Year 5 pupil Reuben Clifford said:“We were surprised to find out thatthey only make the engines, thenthese engines go off to Liverpool forthe next part of the process.

“We walked around their big facto-ries and saw there were only 20members of staff but lots of robotsdoing the work. During the day we

were able to use their tools for meas-uring depths.

“We were also involved in othermeasuring experiments for hardnessof materials, then we plotted these ongraphs. We learned that engineersworked hard to be precise to ensuretheir engines are top quality.

“Our favourite part of the day wasdefinitely the tour and it has inspiredus to learn more about science.”

THE first phase of upgrading CCTVacross Stratford district is complete.

The project – set to cost £796,000 intotal – got under way with work on thecontrol room. The next stage will see 87analogue cameras replaced with digitalones, plus upgraded fibre transmission, for better picture quality and data storage.

The work is Stratford District Council’sfirst major CCTV investment since 2008.

Cllr Sarah Whalley-Hoggins said: “Weknow from speaking to our residents thatCCTV is highly valued because of theintegral part it has in preventing anddetecting crime and disorder. The upgrade

now reflects the high-calibre personnelthat work tirelessly to keep the streets ofStratford district safe.”

Supt Daf Goddard, of Warwickshirepolice, said: “The use of CCTV is integralfor police and partners in order to preventand deter crime, and for its use in investi-gating offences. We’re really pleased tosee this upgrade.”

CCTV operates round the clock inAlcester, Bidford, Henley, Shipston,Southam, Stratford, Studley and Welles-bourne. The team has radio contact withthe police and images can be transmitteddirectly to them.

The new £30m Shakespeare North Playhouse takes shape on Merseyside. Photo: Knowsley Council

Bard’s eye viewA NEW theatre in the north-westpaying homage to the life and worksof William Shakespeare is starting totake shape.

The arrival of a 190ft crane on aconstruction site in the town ofPrescot, Merseyside, signals the start

of the ambitious £30 million, 350-seat Shakespeare North Playhouse, due to open in 2022.

As the Herald reported in October, the Playhouse is modelled on thecockpit-in-court design of the 17thcentury and will complete a “Shake-

spearean triangle” linking London,Stratford and Prescot.

When completed, it will providelearning opportunities for all ages, anoutdoor performance garden, a“black box” studio theatre, an exhibi-tion centre and a visitor attraction.

Nobody does it better...

The Jaguar XK140 drop head coupe.Photo submitted.

Rare Jags inspotlight asNEC classicsshow looms CLASSIC Car Auctions will beoffering a very early Jaguar XK140 atthe Practical Classics Classic Car andRestoration Show at the NEC on 28thand 29th March.

Presented in lovely condition, thisXK140 is one of several cars fromthis marque being offered whichinclude the classic E-type, Daimler’sversion of the Mark 2 Jaguar and asparkling XJ12.

“Jaguars are always very popular, with E-types doing well at ourDecember auction last year. Havingan XK140 is a lovely addition andwhat’s more, it is an early car, number90 off the production line,” said thefirm’s Gary Dunne.

The XK140 was the successor tothe loved XK120 so had a lot to liveup to. Improvements over its prede-cessor were more interior space, improved brakes and this 1955 modelon offer still has those original drumbrakes. Among the main disting-uishing parts between the two werethe bumpers which were more sub-stantial and turn signals above thefront bumpers.

This particular car has been ownedby a father and daughter for 23 yearsand has been well looked after. It iswell presented in indigo blue with avery smart dove grey interior.

The car was subject to an olderrestoration but retained many originalfeatures and still looks eleganttoday – a lovely fixed head coupe foran estimated £40,000 to £45,000.

E-types did well for CCA at the endof last year, so their first auction ofthe year features a 1966 UK suppliedSeries 1 Plus 2 with a manual gearboxand three wipers.

Again, this is a father and daughterowned car, having been in the familyfor 48 years and treated as such. Itunderwent restoration some years ago

and included a complete enginerebuild. Finished in Old EnglishWhite this car has been given a guideprice of £35,000 to £40,000 to allowfor further improvements to make itvery special.

The next lot may be mistaken for aMark 2 Jaguar. The Daimler 2.5 V8was the first Jaguar designed to havethe Daimler badge. This 1966 modelis a first-generation car with a sub-stantial history file including docu-mentation for a newly refurbishedengine. Looking good in opalescentgolden sand with a tan leather inte-rior, estimated at £12,000 to £15,000,this is a very useable car with anMOT until January 2021.

If you are after something a littlemore modern, CCA has a 1988 XJ125.3 with just 52,000 miles on theclock. This is a superbly presentedand well maintained car, which hasundergone £20,000 of work to get itto the condition it is now in. It comeswith the original handbooks and adealer stamped service recordincluding recent history. It’s esti-mated at £11,000 to £14,000.

Mr Dunne added: “These are a fewof the high-quality cars we have onoffer at our forthcoming auction. Wehave our next Cars Coffee and Con-signments at the British MotorMuseum Gaydon on 19th Februaryand have a few appointments avail-able if you are thinking of consigningyour car.

“Our experts will be on hand alongwith our professional photographerfor free advice, valuations and pho-tography plus a coffee and entry fortwo to the museum.”

Viewing for the NEC event takesplace on 27th March between 10amand 5.30pm with the auction gettingunder way on Saturday 28th andSunday 29th from noon.

Electric vans ready tojoin green revolutionTHE first prototypes of thenew van from London Elec-tric Vehicle Company(LEVC) are now being builtat the company’s state-of-the-art factory in Warwick-shire, ahead of its debut atthis year’s CommercialVehicles Show on 28thApril.

Due to the flexibility ofthe LEVC factory at Ansty,it has been possible to buildthese verification prototypeson the same line, fully inte-grated with current production.

The prototypes will be deployed as testvehicles and undergo a strict developmentand homologation programme includinghot and cold climate testing, durabilityand crash testing.

LEVC’s electric van is built using thesame lightweight aluminium architectureas its TX electric taxi – 30 per cent lighterthan a conventional steel body, resistant toany form of rust, and pound-for-poundcan absorb twice the crash energy of mildsteel.

It also shares class-leading manoeuvra-bility with a city-friendly turning circle ofjust 10.1m and, most importantly fordrivers and fleet operators, the LEVCelectric van will offer class-leading totalcost of ownership.

CEO of LEVC, Joerg Hofmann, said:“Prototype stage is an important mile-stone in our new electric van’s develop-

ment process as we stay on track towardsfull production in Q4.

“This new van satisfies the growingdemand zero-emissions vehicles in theone-tonne segment, currently dominatedby diesel products, and combines thiswith extended mileage capability tototally eliminate any range anxiety. It’s anintelligent green mobility solution for anycommercial vehicle operator.”

Using the proven TX e-City rangeextender technology, LEVC’s new vanwill set new standards in green logisticswith 80 miles (130km) of emissions-freedriving and an extended electricallydriven total range of moer than 370 miles(600km).

Owing to its flexible range, it offers a“distribution to door” – not just last mile– service, providing the critical linkbetween out of town depots and city cen-tres.
