Convenient Caribbean
As one of the world’s most popular vacation spots, the
Caribbean islands are constantly considering ways to make the
travel experience a better one. To help you and your clients,
here are a few of the latest developments that add to the
Caribbean’s reputation as a cutting-edge, fuss-free destination.
Electronic Commerce: The Mango CardCarrying cash will soon be a memory in the Bahamas. For
added currency security, convenience and efficiency, the
Mango Card has been introduced. The Mango card is
available to all Bahamians; it is affordable, it requires no
pre-qualifications, and there are no application fees. Soon to
arrive is the Mango Tourist Card, created specifically for
visitors to the country. The cards will be available for purchase
in varying amounts, up to $100.
The option for making non-cash payments introduces a high
degree of safety for both the public, who can choose to carry
less cash to purchase goods and services, and for merchants,
who are looking for ways to remove cash payments from
their systems.
Cutting-edge RFID (Radio Frequency ID) technology drives
Mango, which will modernize domestic business, and place
the Bahamas on par with other countries in the world of
electronic commerce.
Electronic pay systems will be available for use at a wide
variety of consumer venues. The card is designed to be
user-friendly and will eventually be available for purchase
and re-loading at numerous points-of-sale throughout New
Providence, and eventually the Family Islands.
Mango Cards are currently available at the following locations:

(PTAB) Office

For more information on Tourist Cards and current
developments, go to www.getamango.com.
Easy TravelThe u.S. Virgin Islands is already one of the most accessible
destinations in the Caribbean with daily, nonstop flights from
numerous mainland markets. However, the last phase of the
Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative — which has provided
stricter, standardized travel requirements beginning
June 1 — does not apply to the u.S. Virgin Islands.

caribbeanPLUGGED IN
Beneath the veil of pure relaxation — crashing waves, gorgeous beaches, humming nightlife — the Caribbean works hard to create an infrastructure and amenities that will serve your clients well. Caribbean properties and tourism officials continually re-imagine the possibilities, so every time you or your clients visit, some new and exciting program or technology will be at work to
make each trip a bit closer to perfection.
THE CARIBBEAN KNOWS WHAT YOUR CLIENTS WANT
Bay Street in Nassau is the primary shopping mecca,
but Freeport and Lucaya are also exceptional. Local
goods include liquor, handicrafts and art. Androsia
batiks, with their vivid colors and striking designs,
are great souvenirs — it’s fun to visit the Androsia
factory on North Andros, where you can buy your
blouse, wrap or scarf at the source. In Freeport, the
Perfume Factory makes and sells fragrances using
local ingredients. Many items sold in the Bahamas
are duty-free, and the islands have a good selection
of jewelry from around the world.

Americans that travel to the territory are at an advantage,
since it remains passport-free for u.S. citizens arriving from
Puerto Rico and the u.S. mainland. Americans enjoy all the
conveniences of domestic travel when visiting the u.S. Virgin
Islands of St. Croix, St. John and St. Thomas.
upon departure, u.S. citizens simply provide a photo ID card
and a birth certificate with a raised seal.
Pop-Caribbean
Not only is the Caribbean a convenient destination for u.S.
travelers, it also taps into the most effective pop-culture
marketing geared toward the u.S. market. Through television
initiatives and creative partnerships, this destination knows
how to reach your clients.
TV Magazine: Passport to ParadiseIn an effort to reach a worldwide audience and communicate
the merits of the Bahamas, The Tribune Company and uSA
TODAY have partnered to create Passport to Paradise, a
television show that will focus on Bahamian culture and
entertainment. With plans for a 12- to 16-episode first season,
the show’s pilot includes a number of high-profile interviews,
including one with Vincent Vanderpool-Wallace, the Bahamian
Minister of Tourism and Aviation, who comments on the
Bahamian marketing initiatives to boost tourism numbers.
Other segments include shopping on Bay Street, “Junkanoo”
festivities, and fine dining at luciano’s. Future shows will
feature other exotic spots with behind-the-scenes glimpses,
hosted by British personality Rachael Carr.
Martha Stewart WeddingsSandals has brought Caribbean destination weddings to a new
level by partnering with Martha Stewart Weddings. Featuring
customizable wedding plans, Martha Stewart Weddings will be
available to brides and grooms who travel to Sandals Resorts
beginning Jan. 1, 2010. You can begin booking your clients’ 2010
Martha Stewart Weddings at any of the 12 Sandals Resorts or
four Beaches Family Resorts starting this month.

According to research conducted by Martha Stewart Weddings
and The Futures Company (formerly Yankelovich), destination
weddings are becoming more popular with 31% of brides ages
21–30 planning to have a destination wedding. Now more than
ever, booking destination weddings can represent a significant
amount of your commissions, and this new partnership will
only help.
The five different themes available through this program
combine Martha Stewart’s expertise in wedding planning and
Sandals Resorts’ reputation as the leader in the luxury
all-inclusive resort segment. Included in the customization
process are available extras, such as personalized cake
toppers, welcome gifts and candy buffets.
In addition to Martha Stewart Weddings, Sandals will introduce
a variety of craft programs and camps in 2010. Trained experts
using Martha Stewart Crafts products will teach guests crafting
skills and techniques — the type of innovative and creative
projects that made Martha Stewart famous.
As is the case anywhere, a number of documents
(birth certificates, divorce certificates, photo ID,
etc.) may be required to obtain a marriage license in
the Caribbean. Of course, the requirements vary from
island to island. To find out what your clients will need
for their Sandals/Martha Stewart Wedding, go to
www.sandals.com/weddingmoons/weddings/
instructions.cfm. The Sandals wedding coordinators
and document specialists will help your clients
obtain anything they might need once they arrive.
