For more informaon contact Mar [email protected] or206-859-5105. Ite Missa Est’ Men Group The group meets weekly on Thursday mornings at 6:45am in the Church to pray the rosary followed by a discussion of the Gospel for the coming Sunday and a light breakfast. F a i t h F o r m a t i o n Dear Friends: Summer continues around the parish and with it, there is a different kind of busy. The improvement projects are still in process and general maintenance is being done. While there are fewer students on campus each day, our Day Camp Program and Caritas Childcare Center keep the joy of children’s activity and laughter present. Much of our focus this time of year, for both the parish and the school, is on planning. There are some open positions that require careful attention including application review and interviews. There are the simple but important tasks like ordering books for the sacramental preparation programs in the fall and missals for the new liturgical year. July is when we traditionally order our Pascal candle for the following Easter to get a discount! And there is the ongoing discussions and calendar meetings about what programs will be offered in the coming year and who will be responsible for them. You may be thinking, “interesting but not relevant.” But it is relevant to both our parish life and our personal lives of faith. Planning is important. (Ask anyone who knows me, I’m a big fan of plans.) Sometimes, however, we can become so focused on the details and the process of planning that we forget to consider the bigger picture, the people and the goal. And sometimes, we plan as if we are able to control every detail and as if success or failure depends solely on us. We forget that God is the author of our lives, and that the best plans are made in consultation with Him, recognizing that we do our best, but that all we have was a gift from God in the first place. In the gospel today, I’m always struck by a single line that seems almost an afterthought, “Gather the fragments left over, so that nothing will be wasted.” Jesus took the humble offering of a small boy, and fed a crowd—and still there was more left over. And the leftovers are also important—every scrap has value. This is what God can do with our efforts. He can make the results bigger and more significant than we can even imagine! But first, we have to offer our efforts to him. Let’s continue to pray for one another, Marti Lundberg Christ the King Catholic School News School is Out for Summer! High School: Our High School youth are back from Alaska!!! What an INCREDIBLE RETREAT!!! Thank you for all of your prayers and support! I can hardly begin to describe it all. We hiked a mountain, kayaked on a lake, rafted down a river surrounded by bald eagles, woke up to a gorgeous glacier every morning, made amazing friends but most importantly we grew in faith. Every day, surrounded by His beautiful creation, we journeyed deeper into our relationship with Christ. Some days it was hard to hear how easily we could be lead astray from Him by temptation and lures in our daily life. HOWEVER it was beyond comforting to hear that Christ is ALWAYS there, his mercy is ALWAYS accessible and his love for us is UNSHAKEABLE and we have the choice to follow him EVERYDAY. I look forward to seeing the blessings of this retreat unfold over this next year as we prepare for our next Alaskan adventure!
