What if you were given unlimited power to fulfil your every whim?

The Black hole shows an employee in a low end job all alone in a basic western culture office during his night shift when. Out of nowhere he is suddenly presented with a mysterious image of a big black dot printed out of the faulty copier he attempts to operate that somehow gives him the ability to reach through objects.

This dark comedy is concentrates on an average Caucasian male who works an average job in an average office who is rather low on life.

The main character is low down in the business’s hierarchy, wearing a short sleeve button up shirt with a tie loosely tied in a casual manner.

This portrays him as not being proud of what he has amounted to.

The style of editing during this film is mainly made up of cut shots, making this short film have a sort of montage feel.

There is no dialogue at any point in this film however the sound that is produced from the protagonist’s environment is all diegetic (e.g. the printing machine, error alarm, rustling of paper etc).

The camera angles are mostly medium close ups. This is useful to the audience as there is only one character in this film.

Various other shots include long shots (mainly used to emphasis just how empty the office is e.g. when the printer does not work & when he gets stuck in the safe). There are also over shoulder shots when the characters is interacting with the black hole as well as close ups such as when he takes a closer look at the mysterious object presented to him. Non Medium Close Up shots are mainly used to add to the dramatic effect of certain moments during this film; the intensity in his eyes when he discovers the power, the intrigue he feels when thinking of what he can do with it and the glorious celebration when he gains his first prize (a chocolate bar).

This film clearly conveys the lesson that is instilled in many humans heads from childhood, greed breeds greed, as this man begins a simple low down employee of a simple job, however once he is granted ultimate power, the audience is then given the opportunity to watch the filmmakers interpretation of basic human behaviour and the unfortunate outcome that can often come of such behaviour.

We tend to forget that happiness doesn't come as a result of getting something we don't have, but rather of recognizing and appreciating what we do have.”

“There are many things that we would throw away if we were not afraid that others might pick them up.”

“Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's need, but not every man's greed”

“Hell has three gates: lust, anger, and greed”

“It is greed to do all the talking but not to want to listen at all”

“He who is greedy is always in want.”

“Oh, the jealousy, the greed is the unraveling. It's the unraveling and it undoes all the joy that could be.”
