PRINCIPAL’S REPORT It is hard to believe that there are only a few days left of term and the semester. A lot has happened in the last two terms.

Five goose-neck taps for water bottle refilling stations have been installed in the last week. Please remind your children to bring their water bottles to school so that they do not need to use bubblers. These taps were installed following discussion at a Student Representative Council meeting earlier in the term - a great example of the active student voice at Armidale City Public School.

Reports Simplified student reports for Semester 1 are expected to be distributed tomorrow, 2 July. These reports do not have grades attached and reflect student learning before

and during COVID-19 restrictions, including the remote learning period. We will not be holding parent-teacher interviews as in the past. Any contact with teachers needs to be via a phone or email conversation.

Holidays As we prepare for the school holidays, many families will be considering travelling out of Armidale or having visitors come to Armidale. To avoid a surge in the number of COVID-19 cases in our area it is vital that students, parents, carers, community and staff remain vigilant to stay COVID-safe over the holidays and upon our return to school in Term 3. To prevent the spread of COVID-19:

Clean your hands often. Use soap and water, or an alcohol-based hand rub.

Maintain a safe distance from anyone who is coughing or sneezing.

Don’t touch your eyes, nose or mouth.

Cover your nose and mouth with your bent elbow or a tissue when you cough or sneeze.

Stay home if you feel unwell.

Our community is reminded that the school grounds are not a public playground. To keep students, staff and the wider community COVID-safe the school grounds are not open for the community to use over the holiday period. The grounds will remain closed to all adults, other than staff or approved personnel, upon return to school next term. All visitors to our school are required to complete an External Visitors form to allow for contact tracing in the event of an outbreak at our school.

Parenting Ideas Blog Have you noticed that there can be greater resistance from children when you use certain words. In a recent Parenting Ideas blog, the experts at Parenting Ideas discuss which words these are and explain why. Staff will return to school on Monday, 20 July for a staff development day, beginning preparations for the 2021 – 2024 strategic improvement plan. Students will return on Tuesday, 21 July. To ensure that we continue to stay safe and well in Term 3 it is important that students only attend school is well.

Take care and enjoy the mid-year break, Ms Deborah Nay

1/2C CLASS NEWS 1/2C have had a very busy term learning and have settled back into school well after the learning from home phase. We have been on a journey around Asia, studying texts with an Asian focus and learning how to write and present an information report. We have written very informative reports on panda bears and China and followed a directed drawing to draw our own pandas. 1/2C looked at written languages from other cultures and painted our names using the Chinese alphabet.

We are currently looking at the power of advertising and the persuasive techniques used to sell products. We have been having a lot of fun reading ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’ and writing persuasive letters to convince people of our opinions. We are getting very good at using rhetorical questions. 1/2C have tried to convince Ms Nay that we need things in our school, such as a swimming pool, a Nerf gun stadium, a school pet, an exercise park, a school canteen and other wonderful things. We have created beautiful crayon drawings using our imaginations and ideas from the book.

Students are being encouraged to become more responsible for their belongings as every day numerous personal items, including jumpers and lunch boxes are being left in the bag room and around the school. We have been working hard on this and have already seen an improvement in this area, which is great.

We are looking forward to our learning adventures across Term 3 and are all super proud of what we have achieved so far this year. We wish you all a wonderful holiday break.

From the amazing 1/2 C and Mrs Clarke.

4/5S CLASS NEWS Holidays are almost here and we are all excited and ready for a nice break!

This term has been super busy, packed full of wonderful learning opportunities and some fun along the way. We have had Multicultural speeches, Shark tank presentations, projects and the chance to work with Mr Baldwin, a student teacher from the University of New England.

4/5S have thrived in creative arts this term and have completed some beautiful art works using oil pastels and smudging techniques. We have also been working imaginatively in drama with Mrs Girrard and certainly have many students who might just have a career in the arts field.

We would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holidays!
