the blue cross - day at an adoption centre
DESCRIPTION
This slide show explains the routine animal care at our adoption centresTRANSCRIPT
A day at a Blue Cross adoption centre
Early in the morning
We let the animals out into their runs & walk the dogs
Checking the horses
Most of our horses and ponies live outside in small herds.
We need to check they are well and see to their rugs if they wear them.
Feeding time
All animals are catered for individually.
Some may also be on medication which needs to be given regularly and recorded.
Cleaning
We clean out thoroughly every morning and then clean up any poo as it occurs throughout the day.
Opening time
The public keep us busy with enquiries and by rehoming
our animals
Training
Training makes animals easier to rehome and keeps their minds active whilst they are staying with us.
Playing
Play is an important exercise for the mind and
body and keeps the animals happy.
Grooming
Grooming helps to keep the fur clean, it gets the animal used to being handled and we can give them a health check at the same time.
Health care
All our animals are checked by a vet and treatment is given, if
necessary. All dogs, cats, horses and rabbits are microchipped
All dogs, cats, rabbits and male horses are neutered before
rehoming.
We feed again in the late afternoon
Another toilet break for the dogs
Volunteers help the regular staff to look after the animals
Bed time
Each adoption centre has staff on site overnight to check on the animals and to keep them safe
Funding
We receive no government or lottery funding
Therefore, we have to have many different ways of raising money
How we raise our funds
• Donations• Legacies (money left in a will)• Grants• Charity shops• Events such as the
London Marathon• Open days• Corporate sponsors
