In the 2016/2017 Season, the Hopkins Center is pleased to continue its partnership with the Dartmouth Center for the Advancement of Learning (DCAL) to support faculty who include Hop programming in their syllabus. In recognition of the unique experiential value that the performing arts bring to classroom curriculum, DCAL can underwrite the ticket costs for your class to attend a Hop Visiting Artist, Student Ensemble or Theater Department performance, or an Event Cinema presentation. If your students are required to attend—and there are no departmental or other funds to cover ticket costs—you are eligible for support from the DCAL/Hop Experiential Learning Fund. Funding is first-come, first-served and faculty tickets will continue to be underwritten by the Hop. You and your students will be asked to reflect on the experiential learning value of the experience afterwards.

To request tickets for your class, please complete this form online: https://goo.gl/forms/14HrkOEHf3DLLF6H2. All requests are tentative until confirmed by the Hopkins Center, pending ticket availability and some restrictions. Requests will be processed in the order they are received.

With Dartmouth’s renewed focus on the value of experiential learning, the Hop is excited to continue exploring the many ways that the arts serve as a tool for active learning—making abstract concepts visible and physical, engaging with real-world problems and giving students an opportunity to reflect on their learning. If you haven’t already discovered how the Hop can support teaching and learning on campus, we encourage you to take advantage of our world class performances and films as an educational tool for your students. Consider this Curricular Connections Guide your invitation!

DID YOU KNOW?• Many of the artists listed are available for workshops, discussions, meals and class visits. The Hop

can provide supplemental resources, including articles, program notes, videos and more. Contact us for information about arranging a meeting with your students.

• Subject to availability and some restrictions, each faculty member bringing a class to a performance will receive one FREE TICKET to the show for him/herself.

• Free, public programs accompany many Hop performances. Most do not require a reservation, but let us know if you are bringing a group of students and we will be happy to make accommodations.

Twenty-five years, 15 albums and three Grammy awards since her major orchestral debut at age 12, Hahn has developed from “a prodigy of rare clarity and virtuosity…[to] a daring, mature artist” (The New York Times), known for her musicality and stage presence. The extravagantly creative, Obie-winning puppet troupe Wakka Wakka addresses human rights, consumerism and American-Chinese relations in this satirical musical. Baby pandas, dancing appliances and romping middle-aged lovers populate Wakka’s universe of tiny-to-huge puppets, belting out original songs. As it did with climate change in Baby Universe (at the Hop in 2012), the company spins the issues of our times into a vastly entertaining tale with surreal dimensions, lots of laughs and powerful take-aways.

Recommended for ages 16 and up. Adult language, puppet nudity.
