From the Pastor’s
Heart... Dear members & friends of
Broadman Baptist Church:
2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus
Christ.
(Ephesians 1:2, ESV)
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus
Christ! I greet you all with the apostle Paul’s customary opening this
month. I do so because we are in a time where remembering God’s
grace and finding God’s peace is more crucial than ever. We are
living in unusual, unexpected, and uncertain days, are we not? All
our lives have been thrown into upheaval over the past weeks be-
cause of the coronavirus pandemic. Our church services and activi-
ties have been cancelled, public gatherings of over 10 people are
being prohibited, jobs are being disrupted, and the economy is suf-
fering mightily.
How do we respond to such times? For many people the response is
fear. To see fear in action, simply walk into Wal-Mart or Giant Eagle!
See the bare shelves and harried faces all around. However, the

EASTER AROUND
THE WORLD…
Easter traditions are im-
portant, but they vary
widely. While Americans
dye hardboiled eggs, Ken-
yans carve soapstone
eggs and present them as
gifts in banana-fiber
boxes. In Bermuda, locals
fly homemade kites on
Good Friday — a tradition
that began when a
teacher illustrated Christ’s
ascension to heaven using
a cross-shaped kite.
Ethiopian Christians ob-
serve a 56-day fast from
meat and all animal prod-
ucts. On Easter, they dress
in white to worship in
churches decorated with
handmade fabric. Then
they feast with non-
Christians on roast
chicken, goat and rice.
In France, church bells are
silent between Holy Thurs-
day and Easter to observe
Jesus’ Passion. According
to legend, the bells grow
wings and fly to Rome to
be blessed, returning on
Easter with chocolate and
presents. In one town’s
main square, chefs make
a giant omelet with 4,500
eggs to feed 1,000 peo-
ple!

truth is that as followers of Je-
sus Christ, while it can be cer-
tainly natural to feel fear, we
need not let our fears rule us.
We live under the grace of God
that reveals his love for us, his
willingness to come to our aid,
and his power to meet us at our
point of need. And we live in the
peace of God that comes from
his presence with us in the
midst of life’s storms.
In Matthew 8:23-27, Jesus and
his disciples are in a boat in the
middle of a storm. The storm
grows so violent that the disci-
ples begin to fear for their lives
and they panic. Amazingly, while
they are panicking, Jesus is
sleeping peacefully in the boat.
They go to him in desperation,
and he asks them simply, “Why
are you afraid, O you of little
faith?” Then Jesus calmed the
storm. Sometimes we too find
ourselves in storms we can’t
control. How do we respond
with faith? Here are three en-
couraging truths to remember:
First, God has power over every
storm.
If the wind and waves don’t con-
cern God, then they need not
frighten us. We might not be
able to change our situation,
but we can choose to faithfully
trust God in the middle of it.
Second, fixing our eyes on Jesus
leads to peace. Are we looking
at the size of the storm, or turn-
ing towards the One who can
calm it? It’s only by focusing on
God, who knows every outcome,
that we can navigate any situa-
tion with His wisdom and peace.
Third, Jesus is always in
our boat. It’s easy to focus on
our fears when we can’t control
our future. But Jesus knows our
future, and he’s always by our
side. And, he calls us to live by
faith, not by sight.
Please visit our church website
(Continued from page 1) (www.broadmanchurch.org)
and watch your e-mail for up-
dates on our response to the
COVID-19 pandemic. I will con-
tinue to post weekly sermon
videos on our website, where
you can also listen to audio
recordings of prior sermons. I
want to encourage you to re-
main faithful in your giving as
the financial needs of our
church continue during this
time. Why not take advantage
of this time to grow spiritually
as you focus on your personal
devotions and showing love to
others around you? One of the
best ways to show love to oth-
ers is to take care of yourself
and self-isolate as much as
you can in order to keep those
at risk from becoming seriously
ill. Taking those steps is not
about being afraid. It is about
protecting others out of love
for them.
In God’s grace and peace,
-Pastor Steve
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD...
March was a weird month for
the collection of items for our
OCC shoeboxes. Not only was
the selected item a difficult one
to think about and shop but
other things were happening in
our world that took our thoughts
away from Operation Christmas
Child. Hopefully, April will be a safer and brighter month all
the way around for us. April's collection will be an easy and
fun one as it is "stuffed animals".As usual there will be a bin
in the fellowship hall for your donations.Thank you for donat-
ing items and for keeping the excitement going for our mis-
sion projects. Do not forget we have kits made up for sewing
dresses to put in our shoe boxes. The kits are located on the
table by the kiosk in the fellowship hall. Any questions, sug-
gestions or problems please contact the office. There will be
a couple craft making sessions coming soon.
LIFE EVERLASTING...
Fellowship with Christ is participation in the divine life which
finds its fullest expression in triumph over death. Life is a larger
word than resurrection; but resurrection is, so to speak, the cru-
cial quality of life .
HOSTESS TEAM…
A big thank you to everyone who helped with the meal after
Jane Mason’s funeral. Her family appreciated our support at
this difficult time.

STEWARDSHIP... RECIPE OF THE MONTH AND MORE…
How to Honor God with Money
You say, “I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need
a thing.” But you do not realize that you are wretched, piti-
ful, poor, blind and naked. I counsel you to buy from me
gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich …. Those
whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and
repent. Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone
hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat
with him, and he with me. To him who overcomes, I will give
the right to sit with me on my throne. Revelations 3:17-
21a
1. Ask God to help you depend on him instead of money.
2. Stay focused on what matters most.
3. Remember that God is always faithful.
4. Ask God for your needs.
5. Ask for wisdom in financial matters.
6. Handle money honestly and responsibly.
7. Put your money to work for God’s purposes.
8. Be ready to give freely.
9. Practice being content with what you have.
10, Praise God for his blessings
Father, thank You for the opportunity to give offerings. May
my joyful heart and sacrificial gifts be pleasing to You.

CHOIR NEWS…
God is in control. Remember the lessons we have been learning
from our devotional. Thank Him for his grace and mercy.
Please keep a song in your heart and worship Him. Sing to the
Lord a new song! We serve a Risen Savior! If we are permitted
to gather our April rehearsals will be Wednesday, April 15, and
Wednesday, April 29, 2020 at 7:55 pm. in the choir room.
ALL THINGS IN COMMON...
Just as the bread is made out of many grains ground and mixed
together, and out of the bodies of many grains there comes the
body of one bread, in which each grain loses its form and body
and takes upon itself the common body of the bread; and just
as the drops of wine, in losing their own form, become the body
of one common wine and drink — so it is and should be with us.
…
Through the interchange of [Christ’s] blessings and our misfor-
tunes, we become one loaf, one bread, one body, one drink,
and have all things in common.
—Martin Luther, Treatise on the Blessed Sacrament

WOMEN’S MINISTRY... March saw Women's Ministry put together 20 toiletries bags for nursing home residents. These will be distrib-uted as needed by Dee Hall at the local nursing homes. Plans are underway in hopes that we will be able to have a Ladies' Tea in April. At present it is scheduled for April 18. We will follow closely how things go with the Coronovirus as to whether we need to postpone or cancel. Even though we cannot gather for fellowship in groups, we need to be aware of the need to continue fellowship and caring through whatever means we have available. We need to check up on shut ins and those isolated by being homebound. Pray for one another and those get-ting sick. When this settles we will relook at the calen-dar and plans.

CHRISTIAN SYMBOL
NAILS...
Nails symbolize Jesus’ passion and
suffering because they were used at
his Crucifixion. They are often depicted
in groups of three because two nails
were used to secure Jesus’ hands, and
a third was used to secure his feet.
Three nails are also used to identify
Jesus as a member of the Holy Trinity.
CHILDREN’S PLAYGROUND…
Page 6 The Broadman Beacon A Church That Makes A Difference
Children may be small in stature, but they carry big weight when
it comes to decisions about where a family chooses to worship.
The Barna Group, who has extensively studied faith in America
over the past 30 years, recently published a book entitled Guid-
ing Children to Discover the Bible, Navigate Technology & Follow
Jesus. One of the key findings revealed in this study is that
nearly six in 10 highly engaged Christian parents say children’s
programming is the primary reason they chose their current
church.
One way to support our Children's Ministry here at Broadman is
to assure that our kids have a safe, fun place to play outside.
And so, plans are in the works to renovate and update our cur-
rent children's playground. A team of people have been working
to learn about the different options and approaches to improving
our playground area in the most cost effective way. We have a
plan in place, with the first phase of ground preparation to begin
as soon as the weather will allow this spring!
This is where you come in; we need your help to bring this plan
to fruition. God has already blessed us with $4,500 in donations
to get started. Now we are asking each of you to prayerfully con-
sider financially supporting this project so we can see it through
to completion.
Thank you in advance for giving,
BBC Playground Project Team

EASTER
2019
Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from Him.
Psalm 127:3
In 1934, the Home Missions Offering, which was started in 1895 by the Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU) to benefit the work of the
Home Mission Board, now known as the North American Mission Board (NAMB), was re-named in honor of Annie Armstrong, in order to
encourage more to follow in her footsteps. The primary ministry initiatives of NAMB are Send Network (church planting) and Send Re-
lief (compassion ministries). Annie was the WMU’s first national executive leader and a magnanimous missions advocate. She was
born on July 11, 1850 in Baltimore when women were not foreseen to be leaders. She challenged churches to action while she served
and rallied support for missionaries. Eventually, she became recognized as a national Southern Baptist pioneer celebrated for visionary
missions leadership.
As Southern Baptist's, the main way we support mission efforts, church planting, compassion ministries, training, resourcing and send-
ing the thousands of missionaries serving in North America is through the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering (AAEO). Administered
through the NAMB, one hundred percent of all AAEO gifts are used to support, equip and encourage Southern Baptist missionaries
across the U.S. and Canada. It covers everything from food, supplies, training resources, bibles, gospel tracts, discipleship materials,
worship facility rent & equipment to transportation and travel expenses, etc.
Lives are changing as a direct result of your support of North American missionaries through the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering. The
Church in North America is the primary source for funding and sending missionaries in order for the spiritual health of North America to
impact mission work around the globe. It's your prayers and gifts that provide the support necessary for planting new churches in un-
reached communities and meeting needs through compassion ministries. We should consider how our partnership & offering will help
to continue to make this work possible, to change lives and help bring others to the knowledge of Jesus Christ and His saving grace.
"It's all about the Gospel," so let us help spread the Good News of Jesus Christ.
