PURPOSE• To understand youth participation in Out‐of‐School‐Time (OST) programs and activities

• Explore further the Alliance’s goal of Youth Safety and Well‐Being

• Specific questions posed by Alliance members• Inform everything we do at the Alliance

YOUTH DATA SQUAD

METHODS• Surveying 5 weeks: mid‐June through mid‐July • Targeting disconnected youth ages 10‐19 in/from the Brooklyns

• Total of 669 youth were surveyed– 99% confidence level with a ±5% margin of error

• Demographics were consistent with target population

THINGS THAT STOOD OUT TO US• Mothers were the most supportive adults in young people’s lives, as they often have the closest connections to their children.

• Public organizations often focus on teachers, park and rec staff, and other youth workers to be supportive adults, but family members are seen by youth as the most supportive adults in their lives.

• Adults don’t always have the experience or social network to connect youth with opportunities that broaden their world.

• High school does not always prepare us for college and career afterwards.
