A leading high street retailer needed not only delivery from China to UK but a full service, door to door logistics and tracking solution for bringing goods into the UK. Brunel Shipping was challenged with delivering a bespoke solution.

The Brunel Shipping team met with the client to discuss the specific requrements of the agreement including the shipping, stock control, logistics and full customs clearance support needed for each consignment.

The task was to track by barcode or product code.  This was very important as the POs could sometimes contain 20+ products so PO tracking wasn’t going to be enough for them. We created a tool that linked their own internal WMS system and Cargowise.

Limited visibility made their stock control planning very difficult.  Our Cargowise solution meant a stock controller could key a barcode and see all orders, see which ones had sailed and their shipping status.

The Accounts team could print copies of Invoices and statements direct from Webtracker, as well as see copies of Supplier  invoices attached to the shipments and copies of C88s and E2s for Customs Clearance purposes.

The system saved time for departments across the board.  The stock control team were able to see where orders were at the click of a button.  The Imports team could also locate stock and containers with ease.

Our client is the biggest supplier to the NHS of mammogram scanning equipment in the UK.

Each scanner is worth 1 million pounds and is very fragile and has to be handled with absolute care.

This project is extremely time sensitive for obvious reasons. When there is screening to be done in the UK we have to react and deliver this equipment on time every time, there is no room for error.

If there are delayed screenings (these are breast cancer scanners) We have a heavy penalty clause for late delivery but BRUNEL red care service ensures we have met, and continue to meet the deadline every week.

Every FRIDAY we have a timed collection window of 10.00am to 12 noon in Hungary where we position our 12 metre trailer every week, we must NOT miss this window.

We then have 6 days to deliver into a timed window slot of 11 am to 2.00 pm in Banbury Oxfordshire direct to our clients warehouse where another trailer is waiting to take them same day express to the NHS Hospital that has ordered them.

• CRITICAL MACHINERY BY URGENT ROAD FREIGHT FROM UK TO FINLAND

Our client had an urgent OOG consignment of recycling machinery that had to be delivered by road on an express basis to alleviate downtime for a mission critical production service facility in Finland.

The Brunel Project Cargo Team had to deliver a set of recycling machines to a plant in Finland inside of the standard 9 day delivery schedule to enable the client to continue recycling and alleviating loss of both clients and revenue.

The only option open was to transport the machinery via road and the Brunel team organised a series of 13.6 metre trailers with sliding roofs to manage the specific height of the cargo.

We collected and loaded onto the trailers within 6 hours of the clients instruction and started the process of express delivery.

Brunel Project Cargo organised the relevant qualified drivers and set up double manned vehicles to make sure that the cargo was rolling on a constant 24 hour basis throughout the night to make sure we hit the clients delivery target of 6 days.

Brunel used its in house tracking and transport software to make sure that the route was planned and any European traffic problems were identified during the journey to allow the cargo to be diverted if necessary and kept moving.

days instead of nine, saving the

client $1.5 million dollars in lost

production and orders.

27URGENT AIR FREIGHT FROM UK TO RUSSIA– CASE STUDY

Our client had an A.O.G. situation with one of its Boeing 737-400 aircraft in St. Petersburg airport, where the aircraft had been positioned for a couple of days with an unserviceable CFM56 aircraft engine.

The Brunel A.O.G. team leapt into action and provided the client with an aircraft charter solution from Stansted airport to St. Petersburg airport utilising an Antonov AN-12 aircraft, our air-ride vehicle was positioned at the MRO at Stansted early on 5th September 2014.

The client had been looking for options to procure a new CFM56 aircraft engine from the UK to be sent by road freight from the UK to Russia, but due to the conflicting customs issues they had to find an alternative route via air freight.

We loaded onto the charter for 20:00, flight departed on-time and arrived into St. Petersburg airport at 00:00 ready for customs clearance.

The engineers then switched old with new. Part of our agreement with the air charter was that we had the aircraft to also move the unserviceable engine back to the leasing company in Belgium using the same aircraft.

So once the old engine had been removed and securely loaded we then moved from St. Petersburg airport to Brussels airport. Undertook customs clearance, storage, handling and onward delivery to the leasing company in Belgium.

aircraft was back in full operation within 12 hours.
