Joan Renken, Henrietta (Hank) Farmer,
Gerry Sue Krienert, Kathy Renken, David & Deb Small had a wonderful day trip to the
Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad dinner
train. They started out with a nice lunch at
Sports Page Bar & Grill in Fort Dodge. Then
on to Boone. They went through a
museum then to a quaint little bakery
where they enjoyed a roll and coffee.
Then onto the train where they enjoyed a
very delicious meal and a nice ride. On
the way home they saw the brightest
rainbow. They can't wait for the next trip!
Congratulations

A funny Giv ing Up Wine
I was walking down the street when I was accosted by a particularly dirty and shabby-looking homeless woman who
asked me for a couple of dollars for dinner.
I took out my wallet, got out ten dollars and asked, “I f I give you this money, will you buy wine w ith it instead of dinner?”
“No, I had to stop drinking years ago,” the homeless woman told me.
“Will you use it to go shopping instead of buying food?” I asked.
“No, I don't waste time shopping,” the homeless woman said. “I need to spend all my time trying to stay alive.”
“Will you spend this on a beauty salon instead of food?” I asked.
“Are you NUTS!” replied the homeless woman. “I haven't had my hair done in 20 years!”
“Well, I said, “I 'm not going to give you the money. Instead, I 'm going to take you out for dinner with my husband and me
tonight.”
The homeless woman was shocked. “Won't your husband be furious with you for doing that? I know I 'm dirty, and I
probably smell pretty disgusting.”
I said, “That's okay. I t's important for him to see what a woman looks like after she has given up shopping, hair
appointments and wine.”

Dreckman gets three-shot victory in Brunsville Open Nick Dreckman, one of the hottest golfers in the area, added the Brunsv ille Open to his list of v ictories this season, shooting
a 1-under-par 71 to cop the title Sunday at Prairie Rose Golf Club.
Le Mars, Iowa, resident Dreckman, who had already won the Interstate Amateur and River-Cade Amateur, two of Sioux
City’s four “major” tournaments, was the only player in the 44-man field to break par.
Dreckman shot 37 in his opening nine holes despite carding a triple bogey on the par-5 No. 1 hole. He offset that,
however, with birdies on Nos. 2, 3 and 6, then fired a 2-under 34 on the back nine for a three-shot win over Ben Edwards.
Rounding out the top five in the first flight were Dan Norton with 75 and Joe Rollinger and Clark Schmitz with 77.
Josh Grosenheider was the second flight winner with 82, while Jay Sandy won the third flight with 87 and Aaron Schnoes
the fourth flight with 91.
There are three tournaments left on the Prairie Rose schedule this season. The Le Mars Community High School basketball
4-person scramble is Saturday, Aug. 5. The Corner Café 9-hole 4-person scramble is Sunday, Aug. 20 and the 8-inch cup 4-
person scramble is Saturday, Sept. 16.
A special thank you goes out to Brandon Phelan, one of the hardest working men on this planet. Brandon has spent hours
keeping our course in stellar condition and should be commended for his efforts both on the course and in the clubhouse.
Personalized golf balls available
One of the newest products available at the Prairie Rose clubhouse is a golf ball that
includes an imprint of the course logo as well as the words PRAIRIE ROSE GOLF CLUB.
The Titleist balls can be obtained at the clubhouse for the low cost of $7 for a sleeve of
three balls. These are sure to be keepsakes so don’t hesitate to stop at the clubhouse
and purchase them. Photos courtesy of Dan Dickman.
