Friendship and playground issues Occasionally, there are friendship issues either in the classroom or on our school playground. Our students are always encouraged to inform either their classroom teacher or a teacher on the playground. All of our teachers wear a bright fluoro yellow vest when on playground duty and they are all happy to help. The school has clear processes in place to support the wellbeing of all students and we work collaboratively as a staff to ensure that any arising problems are resolved promptly to ensure that a safe and harmonious environment is maintained. Who to contact? Classroom teachers can be contacted for any issues arising within the classroom as they will have the necessary information to impart. Please note: Under no circumstances are parents to approach other students to resolve issues. EASTER HAT PARADE Our Easter Hat Parade will be held on Friday 12 April 2019. We will be confirming the details early next week. At this stage we are looking at combining it with our K-6 assembly which will be held at 9;15am on Friday 12 April. 3 Way Learning Conversations - Kind Reminder Interview times and locations: Tuesday 2 April 2019 - from 9:00am – 6:00 - in library

Family Contribution School Fees 2019 Thank you to all the families that have already paid their Family Contribution School Fees.

The Family Contribution Fee of $45.00, although voluntary, will make a difference to our school finances. In 2018 your contribution assisted us with purchasing new books for the library and purchasing charging stations for our Ipads.

In 2019, your much needed contribution will assist further with purchasing much needed robotics equipment for all our students Kindergarten to Year 6. Your family contribution fees will go towards reaching that reality.

Our goal is to raise $6,000. Your $45.00 per family can go a long way for our great school.

The benefits of teaching robotics in schools include:

• students find it engaging and enjoyable

• students learn 21st-century skills, which are useful for future employment

• robotics is suitable for students with a range of abilities

• robotics develops students' critical and computational thinking skills

• it is an effective way to introduce programming to students.

The total cost of the Family Contribution Fee in 2019 is $45.00. However, if you do w ish to contribute more towards this very worthwhile cause, you are more than welcome ☺. Peer Support Training Day On Wednesday of Week 7, Year 6 students attended a Peer Support Training Day at Wedderburn. Students took part in a range of team building activities, designed to develop their delivery of the Peer Support program back at school, recommencing in Term 2. The students thoroughly enjoyed the day and are looking forward to putting their new skills into practice.

Leadership Day Camp On Tuesday 12th March 2019, Year 6 Leaders and Stage 3 SRC Representatives had the opportunity to participate in the Leaders Program together with Ruse Public School at Wedderburn Christian Campsite. The day provided students with a unique learning experience around the concepts of teamwork, inspiring and encouraging others and teaching students about leadership and team building skills. The day was about:

● Connecting students and working collaboratively to achieve a common goal.

● Pushing themselves out of their comfort zone and setting goals to achieve for themselves.

● Showcasing that everyone has the right to participate and respecting all students’ different abilities and ages.

Activities included: H2O Skirmish, Leap of Faith, Off track experience and Pool time All students participated in the activities and achieved their own goals and group goals. They also had a great day. “A lot of the activities took a lot of courage and trust in others, it was a lot of fun” Ava C, Year 6. “It was really enjoyable watching other students and participating alongside them” Indianna W, Year 6.

Harmony day On Friday 15th March 2019 Kentlyn Public School celebrated Harmony Day and acknowledged National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence. Children were able to wear orange being the colour to represent Harmony. The Canteen provided some great orange food, in particular the pumpkin soup was

delicious. Students took part in rotation activities playing games from around the world. These activities included games from Ireland, Ghana, South Africa, Australia, America, China and New Zealand. Students enjoyed learning new games and visiting different places around the world and participated in harmony with different age groups across the school. Further students acknowledged National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence through activities within the classroom. The Stage 3 Cake Stall was also a success, thank you to everyone who was able to donate. “Playing all the different games and learning what other kids our age enjoy doing in different countries was fun” Indianna W, Year 6. Debating Workshop On Monday 4th March, Ava Clarke, Alicia Williams, Preston Gallant, Joshua Egan-Hancock, Claire Seeney, Holy Cheney, Indianna Wilson went to Harrington Park P.S to attend a debating workshop. Cyber-Safety Workshop Thank you to all of the parents who attended the Cyber-Safety workshop in our school library on Wednesday night. Chantel talked about self doubt and how it can impact on their dreams. She highlighted the importance of surrounding themselves with supportive and encouraging men and women. The students were highly engaged and asked some very thought provoking questions. The next guest speaker is Amanda Myers, a scientist who attended Leumeah High. What a wonderful experience for our students.
