After a pleasant ride into Ottawa, we arrived at the parking lot and were greeted by members of 1 C.A.V. who acted as our guides and road captains for the rest of the afternoon. Many of us took advantage of a few minutes to converse, have a smoke and or a stretch before heading in to the museum. We all met up in the Memorial Hall of the museum, which is designed for rest and reflection, and contains a single lone artifact: the headstone of the Unknown Soldier from the First World War which is directly illuminated by the sun each Remembrance Day, November 11, at 11 a.m. Trapper Cane, the National President and one of the Co- Founders of the C.A.V. explained the room to those of us who had never been there before and introduced us to the lady responsible for many of the exhibits, curator Yasmine Mingay.     After an emotionally draining Heroes Highway Ride and Rally on Saturday June 1st, Lou DeVuono, Bob Deadman, Howard Galganov and myself saddled up and headed from our hotel in Trenton, the Ramada Inn, to the Afghanistan Repatriation Memorial parking lot to meet up with a number of other riders who were going to Ottawa for the National Memorial Ride.

    The morning began with Kickstands up at 7:30 am.

    At one of our stops we met up with a ton of C.A.V. members and continued into Ottawa and the National War Museum. After a pleasant ride into Ottawa, we arrived at the parking lot and were greeted by members of 1 C.A.V. who acted as our guides and road captains for the rest of the afternoon. Many of us took advantage of a few minutes to converse, have a smoke and or a stretch before heading in to the museum.

  • After a brief ceremony where Trapper presented Yasmine with a plaque from the C.A.V., we went our separate ways to explore the museum and eat in the mess.

    I chose to take in the Peace Exhibit and the Artillery Exhibit. There was far too little time to explore this museum

    properly. To do that one would need three days! The displays are riveting and powerful and paved the way for the emotion that would be generated later in the afternoon at Beechwood National Cemetery.

    We had to meet up in the parking lot for 1:00 pm to ride over to the Air Force Aviation Museum the muster point for the National Memorial Ride.

    In all some 70 motorcycles and about 170 people took part in the ride/parade to the cemetery a short 2.5 KMs away.

    Major (Retd) Greg Shep Shepard is the rides coordinator and the MC for the ceremony at Beechwood.

    As we rode into this place that only allows motorcycles in on this one day of the year, I felt the tears well up and the emotion begin to grip my gut.

  • When I rode around the one corner and caught a full on view of all of the stark white headstones, the feeling of connectedness to my country and fellow man became an even deeper living thing in my soul than it had been only a few short moments before.

    Something happened, shifted inside of me. I became fiercely proud of being Canadian in a way that I have never experienced before.

    Having just been part of the Heroes Highway Ride and seeing/feeling the healing power that ride has taken on and then seeing these markers and being a part of the National Memorial Ride made me understand on a deep level the interconnectedness and the significance of these two rides; of the need to say and show thanks and the need to remember.

    The emotional, soul-moving power of these two rides, being held on the same weekend, is exhilarating and draining for those who take part in both.

    As speaker after speaker talked about service and commitment, shared the inspirational messages of hope, peace and pride and shared the stories of lives lost and remembrance that must never end, I wondered at the difference in the Canadian and American ways of doing things.

    Rolling Thunder had after all just been held the week before and over 250,000 motorcyclists from across the US converged in Washington DC in a demonstration ride for

  • the POWs and MIAs. It is this very grand and nationally publicized event.

    The mission statement of Rolling Thunder as taken from their website: www.rollingthunder1.com/about.html

    The major function of Rolling Thunder, Inc. is to publicize the POW-MIA issue: To educate the public that many American Prisoners of War were left behind after all previous wars and to help correct the past and to protect the future Veterans from being left behind should they become Prisoners Of War-Missing In Action.

    We are committed to helping American Veterans from all wars. Rolling Thunder, Inc. is a non-profit organization and everyone donates his or her time because they believe in the POW/MIA Issue that we are working on.

    Our ceremony is small and intimate, not nationally known. I found myself wondering

    what it would take to have 1,000 bikes the maximum allowable at our National Cemetery Beechwoodon this one day of the year. Ours is after all, a young community, young country compared to our neighbors down south and it is a community with huge geographical challenges.

    With all of my heart I want the rest of the riding community to experience the power of the Heroes Highway Ride & Rally and the National Memorial Ride. These are two events, held on the same weekend that will change the way you approach life, look at life FOREVER.

  • When discussing NHL hockey last week I decided not to mention the recent controversy over officiating, the consensus being there are too many missed calls or poor calls which, in some instances have affected the final outcome of the games.

    A good segue into a recent Shown Shine in Delta. Lets just say it was, at the very least, a highly controversial call when the judges awarded best metric bike to a HD V-Rod! Research shows this model is assembled in the USA and has mostly US parts. I think if you walked into a biker bar, approached the owner of a V-Rod enjoying a beverage and said, Hey dude, nice metric bike, you had better be prepared to fight your way out.

    Not so at the Freedom Biker Church Shown Shine where it was apparently laughed off. Bit of a different sense of humour for the biker church crowd I guess.

    The bottom line is, whoever runs a Shown Shine can award whoever they want for whatever they want and it is their right to do so.

    That said, if they want to have good turn outs at future events it might be a good idea to

    expand the categories complete with accurate descriptions of each category so that there can be no more missed calls, upset people or people thinking the judges dont know what they are doing.

    The number one thing that makes an event like this successful is attendance, and that will suffer when people feel the event was a joke.

    Perhaps the 3 or 4 metric bikes that entered the show may not have done so if they knew in advance the unusual judging criteria that

  • would be adopted. If it was a Harley only show, no problem, just let everyone know in advance.

    The people who paid money and sacrificed a great riding day (few and far between lately) may not have had they only known. FYI the President of the IMBBA (International Master Bike Builders Association) of which at least one judge claims to be a member, says the IMBBA classes V-Rods as American, domestic in origin and are titled as such from its origin of manufacturer. In addition to the obvious, its a poor cool no matter how you stack it up.

    Too bad all this ill will transpired because up to this point it was a pretty good day; decent turnout, amazing weather, some great bikes in the show (see the photos), live music and a pig roast. What more could you ask for.

  • Funnily enough, next on the agenda is a cool V-Rod I recently saw (no, not the same one as above). The coolest and most unusual thing about this particular bike was the seat which was covered with chainmaille.

    The owner built the entire seat himself including the seat pan. He says the ride is surprisingly cool, as there is actually 3/16 between your butt and the seat foam allowing air to flow freely. This would be great on really hot days as I have noticed, particularly

    with a gel pad, that the hotter it gets the less comfortable even a comfortable seat can become.

    To finish on a high note, weather gurus who claim to be able to predict these kinds of things are saying that the next three months will be hotter and dryer than normal. Yippee!

    Guess we paid for it in advance with all the cool, wet weather weve been subjected to.

  • On the outskirts of reality, just the other side of town (well, not really THAT far away; just a bit of a drive from my home here in Cowtown), theres a very attractive town in Saskatchewan named Estevan. Just a few minutes beyond that, theres a little

    grassy patch of land that I only know by GPS coordinates, now that Ive been there once. And that little patch of land is the home of Estevans BAD Cru Rodeo; a motorcycle event that pits Bikers Against Diabetes for the purposes of sending diabetic kids to camp, sometimes with much of their family along.

    Now, maybe youve noticed, or maybe you havent, but bikes and diabetes arent mentioned together a lot, so when Our Beloved Editor asked me if Id be interested in touring out to report on this event, I was intrigued. I was a bit on the Estevan? Really? Why ESTEVAN? train, too, I will admit, but I have the answer to that, as well because, thats where Keith and Cheryl Irvine, along with the rest of the BAD Cru, reside.

    Which actually means its well worth the trip, in the end! Sure, we make fun of SK, of the flatlands, and the rural people that live there, sometimes, but let me tell you what, Estevan is a very trim, clean town that is nestled in some rolling hills that are rather lovely, and those rural people are people who have the

    biggest damn hearts Ive met in a long time. And man oh man, do they know how to throw a bike rally for charity! The Estevan BAD Cru Rodeo is a great time.

    Arriving Friday, the day before the event, I was greeted by Diesel. Who is named such either because he has a diesel powered motorcycle, or the bike was named after him, Im not sure.

    He is the kind of man you want ON your team,

    and the kind of man you dont want to see on the other team. I am not scrawny by any means, but I felt pretty small next to this big teddy bear when he shook my hand!

    I also felt extremely welcome, and that turned out to be the theme. Diesel and his BADCru buds were getting the event prepped, but they took a few minutes to meetngreet, and to show us our accommodations (THANK YOU,

  • by the way, to the BADCru for hookin us up with the trailer, it was awesome). Then it was back to work as soon as Keith showed up, (hmm) and as dark fell, we gathered around the campfire for some hotdogs and goodies, and some great chat, and I could tell that these folks were excited as hell about their event the next day. After some socializing, we all hit the rack for the night.

    After a great sleep, we woke up and observed as the BAD Cru got serious... and built the rest of event in a couple of hours! The Canadian Diabetes Association Clothesline

    truck showed up to collect donations of clothing, the kids area was created, the sound system started to play tunes (great job, Scoot!) and we actually observed teenagers!

    When the riders started to arrive, actually entering over a red carpet, the place rapidly took on that carnival feeling that good events always have. Before long, the sun was just warm enough, but the breeze kept you cool (deceptively, according to my sunburn) and the bikes just kept rolling across the red carpet.

  • Before I realized it, they were starting the rodeo part of the program, and lemme tell you, they run a tight ship, but one helluva good rodeo. There were no injuries, only one tiny incident of a dropped bike, and a lot of great sportsmanship including this fun-loving guy, Duncan ( known as God to his CMC 58 brothers) who gave his barrel-push trophy to the little guy in the background, whod done a really fine job at pushing a keg with a 12 diameter wheel. Duncan carried on his singing way (he sings all the time, but fortunately hes pretty darn good) and the little guy is a lifer now, lovin the biker camaraderie!

    Just in case youre wondering, this IS a family event. Theres a kids area to help keep parents sane, and plenty of young bikers were around, and many of them helping out, it should be noted. Chris from BAD Cru was grateful for his little partners help, for sure.

    Whenever bikers come together in numbers, they have to show off the iron, and this

    shownshine portion of the program had some very cool rides. The judging was done by the crowd as much as anything and they certainly loved this little Von Dutch number!

    They had games Id never seen before, and every one of my favorites, too. The water balloon toss was a crowd please as always, even if nobody got TOO wet, and of course the barrel push, slow race, plank ride, stacker and ring toss contests were there. They have

  • a couple of races that are new to me, but I dont want to name them here they did a great job of putting them on, and if you want to know what they are, go to the event next year!

    In the end, though, we know that 2 things generally hold the audiences attention the weenie bite contest; which wasnt truly won as nobody got a bite, but there was a gal wearing a LOT of mustard who was well received.

    And the burnout contest, which only saw 3 contestants, but was won hands down by a streetfighter looking Kawi Ninja that pretty much disappeared in a cloud of tire smoke.

    He did have folks set to follow him back to town that was a not insignificant amount of rubber he left behind!

    Sadly, once the burnout was done, there were some announcements to be made, and then

    the day was closed off. In short order, the bikes, over 100 in all (not bad considering it rained rivers the week prior) filed off of the battlefield. The event was done, the Diabetes truck had 10+ bags of donated clothes, and although I dont have the final numbers, its considered that the event was an unqualified success.

  • microphone at the event, and Ill say it again here- this event is worth the trip, no matter where you come from. Great big biker hearts getting together and putting on a very polished smoothly run event, doing good for the community, getting families involved in things together, and having an amazingly good time in the end.

    Thank you, Keith, Diesel, Scott, Chris, Scooby, Leon, Terry, and everyone else in the BAD Cru. FINE JOB, very fine job, you should all be proud. Next time out, Im bringing more people..     Youve heard of two steps forward, one step back Im sure. With Sturgis North they seem to have perfected two steps back, one step back.

    They are skipping the forward part entirely. Yesterday, Jerry Doucette was still the only band listed.

    Today he is gone from their website, and in his place is a message to STAY TUNED. I dunno about you, but I would be real hesitant to buy tickets to an event for motorcycles and music with nothing listed for motorcycles and no bands listed.

    On the plus side, having no events or bands at Sturgis North should keep their costs down this year.

    Its that time of year again! June 22, 2013 is our 3rd Annual Rig Riders Poke Run. This exciting event is held at the Leduc #1, just south of Devon and this year we are excited to help support Kids with Cancer Society.

    For over 30 years the Kids with Cancer Society has provided vital services to children with cancer and their families. From the time of diagnosis, throughout treatment and beyond, the Society provides more than all other Northern Alberta charities combined.

    Now, there are four ways you can help us to make a difference!

    You can donate an item for our silent auction.

    You can buy a ticket and participate in the ride which starts promptly at 10:30 and ends with a pig roast and dance for only $25, or a ticket for just the pig roast and dance for only $20.

    You can donate a contribution of any amount to help us earn funds for this wonderful cause.

    Or, you can help by volunteering at one of our many stops to hand out poker hands to the riders throughout the day.

  • Sunday May 26 was the first Poker Run of the season for the Medicine Hat HOG Chapter.

    The event was supported by all the local groups with members of the UMCI as well as the Veterans MC in attendance.

    Approximately 40 bikes came out for a run of just over 325 kms.

    The stops included Medicine Hat, Taber, Milk River, Writing on Stone Provincial Park and Seven Persons.

    The lucky winner who had never participated in a Poker Run before walked away with $400. Not bad for first time out.

  • TORONTO, Ont. (May 28, 2013) The 2013 Amateur Sport Bike class at the Mopar CSBK road racing National Championships will be co-sponsored by Bazzaz and Inside Motorcycles Magazine. Both companies have supported classes on the CSBK tour in previous years, and are proud to serve as co-title sponsors for Bazzaz/Inside Motorcycles Amateur Sport Bike in 2013. The Amateur Sport Bike class is for middleweight performance-oriented street machines, and is considered the prime talent scouting spot for up-and-coming Canadian racers. The class is the second longest running division on the National tour, and features mostly 600cc, four-cylinder powered sports entries, with some middleweight twins and triples included too. Bazzaz builds premium tuning equipment, software and motorcycle Dynamometers, with specific engine management products approved for use in the 2013 CSBK National Series. The brain child of veteran racing engineer Ammar Bazzaz, the company is active in many forms of motorcycle sport as well as in the high-performance street tuning category.

    Inside Motorcycles is part of a Canadian-based publishing empire, and IM has covered the Canadian National road racing Championship since the debut of the publication in 1995. Inside Motorcycles covers most motorcycle sport in Canada, as well as providing rider-oriented feature material and editorials in both print and on their web site. Last season, veteran Amateur racer Philippe Masse of St-Hyacinthe, QC, was the top gun in Amateur Sport Bike aboard his 600cc

    Kawasaki ZX-6R. Starting with wins at the opening rounds at Shannonville Motorsport Park, ON, and Autodrome St.Eustache, QC, Masse took control of the points chase from the outset.

    Victory in the final two 2012 rounds at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in ON, was the icing on the cake, Masse earning the National crown with a solid total of 288 points, followed by the Yamaha mounted runner-up,

    Third in the 2012 standings, with a total of 182 points, was the Triumph 675 triple of Newcastle, ON. based racer Nuno Almeida. Early season contender Austin Shawn-OLeary was injured at his home event at Atlantic Motorsport Park in Nova Scotia and missed the final two races at CTMP, but still hung on to wind up fourth in the final National points standings with a total of 119 with his Honda.

  • Facciotti annihilates MX1Politelli snares MX2 overall

    Colton absolutely dominated the MX1 class at the opening round of the Monster Energy MX

    Nationals in Nanaimo.

    Colton Facciotti convincingly put his Red Bull/Fox/Royal Distributing/KTM into the MX1 winner's circle with a clean sweep at Round 1 of the Monster Energy Motocross Nationals in Nanaimo, BC on Sunday.

    Facciotti left no doubt in anyone's mind that after injuries dropped him from a No.1 ranking to No. 9 last year, he is back in full force. The BC native put on a surgically precise clinic, slicing up the competition in both motos as if

    they were bacon on a cutting block.

    In the MX2 division, Monster Energy/Parts Canada/Leading Edge/Kawasaki's Austin Politelli claimed the overall on the strength of 1-2 motos.

    The first moto was totally dominated by the American while the second moto saw Red Bull/Fox/Royal Distributing/KTM's Kaven Benoit inherit the win from Politelli towards the end of the moto.

    Benoit, who greeted the first moto's checkered flag in fourth position, took home a noteworthy second overall on the day, thanks to the second moto win.

    Rockstar OTSFF Yamaha's Bobby Kiniry wasn't happy to have gone down with J. Medaglia in the second moto. It pushed him back to 6th

    for a 4th overall.

    Redemption Racing KTM's Eric Jeffery surprised by grabbing the first MX1 moto holeshot. But with Factory KTM's Colton Facciotti and Rockstar Energy/OTSFF/Yamaha/Motovan.com's Bobby Kiniry breathing down

    his neck, Jeffery's up front ride was short-lived and he soon disappeared from the top-10 club.

    Jeffery's teammate, Gavin Gracyk, who ran top-five for a while, kept Redemption in the mix by finishing the moto in seventh place. Gracyk would finish the second moto in seventh also, recording seventh overall on the day.

  • Facciotti wasted no time putting plenty of real estate between himself and Kiniry, Kal-Gard/FXR/ApexCycle/KTM's Dylan Kaelin, Monster Energy/Parts Canada/Leading Edge Kawasaki's Brett Metcalfe and Teddy Maier, also of the Leading Edge squad.

    While Facciotti checked out, looking as smooth as ever, the main battles would be fought over the rest of the top-five positions. Metcalfe, making his debut in Canada, started threatening Kiniry for second place halfway through the moto.

    Kiniry used every trick in the book to keep the Australian at bay, but towards the end of the moto he had met his match and Metcalfe took over second place. Metcalfe followed Facciotti across the finish line 15 seconds after the three-time MX1 national champ had written the moto win under his name.

    Kiniry brought home third. He was followed across the line by Maier and Facciotti's KTM teammate, Tyler Medaglia, who cemented the top-five.

    Gavin Gracyk shot out of the gate like a rocket man to deftly claim the second MX1 moto holeshot. Following him closely into turn one were Facciotti, Metcalfe, Tyler Medaglia, Kiniry and Maier.

    As in the first moto, Facciotti left nothing to the imagination and simply snatched the lead soon after he and the other frontrunners got through turn one. He put on another clinic and went on to win the moto 20 seconds ahead of Metcalfe. Although Metcalfe would

    post the fasted lap time in this moto, he could do little more than watch Facciotti ride off into the sunset.

    Monster Energy Leading Edge Kawasakis Brett Metcalfe finished with 2-2 moto scores in his Canadian debut. Hell be keeping Facciotti

    honest.

    While Facciotti and Metcalfe went on to race their own undisturbed race, the battle for the remaining top-five would be fought tooth-and-nail between Tyler Medaglia, Kiniry, Maier, and MX101 Yamaha's Jeremy Medaglia.

    Halfway into the moto, in the heat of battle for third, T Medaglia and Kiniry banged handlebars, as neither would give an inch. While they worked overtime to stay upright, which they did, J Medaglia and Maier shot past them both.

    Kiniry recovered quickly enough to retake Maier and then challenge J Medaglia for third. This time Kiniry, not one to throw in the towel under any circumstances, connected with J Medaglia and both went down, allowing T

    Medaglia to scoop up third again.

    Although visibly shook up, J Medaglia managed to remount quickly enough and stay in the mix. He rechallenged his brother for third, actually grabbing the spot away from him on the final lap and claiming third overall on the day on the strength of 6-3 motos.

    Maier managed to cement the top-five while Kiniry, a bit slower getting back into the fray after going down with J Medaglia, crossed the finish line in sixth, taking fourth overall on the day.

  • Red Bull Royal Distributing KTM's Kaven Benoit had a poor start in the first moto

    but recovered for 4th. His second moto win earned him 2nd overall.

    The start of the first MX2 moto saw Cycle North Honda's Brad Nauditt nail the holeshot with GA Checkpoint Yamaha-mounted Spencer Knowles, Kaven Benoit, RTR Performance Honda's Topher Ingalls, and the Leading Edge Kawasaki duo of Austin Politelli and Tyler Villopoto diving through turn one in Nauditt's roost.

    Benoit, a little too eager to make a move for the lead, went down on the first lap and remounted mid-pack. In short order Politelli successfully accomplished what Benoit couldn't and took over the lead from Nauditt.

    Once he established himself at the head of the pack, Politelli basically ran his own race and stayed up front right to the end of the moto, finishing well ahead of Ingalls and the rest of the top-five.

    After some10 minutes of pulling out all the stops, the frontrunners consisted of Politelli, Ingalls, Nauditt, Knowles and Villopoto.

    Benoit, meanwhile, had already worked his way into eighth place, systematically picking off one rider after the other. He would remain on the gas until the end of the moto, taking fourth at the checkered just ahead of Knowles.

    Politelli injured his knee while leading the second moto but still managed to finish

    second to take the overall win.

    While Politelli was busy cruising in first place his teammate, Villopoto, went down hard as he battled Nauditt for third towards the end of the moto.The resulting wrist injury not only ended Villopoto's moto, it effectively ended his day.

    The second MX2 moto holeshot went to fast-starter Benoit. The Quebec native was followed into turn one by Politelli, Nauditt, Knowles and Ingalls. Knowles and Ingalls, however, both went down while negotiating

    the turn. While Ingalls managed to resume the race-eventually finishing in ninth-Knowles exited the track with a dislocated elbow.

    By lap three Politelli took control of the race from Benoit and it looked like he was on his way to making it a 1-1 day. Nauditt occupied a solitary third place while behind him Honda's Nathan Bless, Kawasaki-mounted Joshua Clark and Rockstar Energy/OTSFF/Yamaha/Motovan.com's Richard Grey battled for the remaining top-five positions. Clark would eventually claim fourth at the finish line; Bless took fifth.

    With some five laps left in the moto, Politelli made an error and went off the track. Although he kept it on to wheels, he still injured his leg on a footpeg and was obviously in distress the rest of the moto.

    The five-second lead Politelli had held on Benoit, and a quick remount, ensured that he got back into the fray in second place behind Benoit. Nauditt, who was trailing more than 30 seconds behind, was unable to capitalize on Politelli's get-off. But with consistent 3-3 results, Nauditt took third overall on the day.

    Other than a few surprises by underdog riders in both classes-especially Jeremy Medaglia's bravura performance in MX1-the opening round of the Monster Energy Motocross Nationals unfolded more or less according to expectations. Colton Facciotti and Austin Politelli won their respective classes and sent out a strong message that they will be the ones to beat in 2013.

    Wardlow AB: Mother Nature played havoc as heavy rains pummelled the Calgary, Alberta area late last week, threatening Red Bulls Rocks and Logs, Canadas first Urban EnduroCross. Course designer, builder and CGRT founder Shane Cuthbertson, Airdrie AB, worked feverishly with Red Bull Canada to preserve what has been more than a years worth of work.

    After three days of weather warnings and torrential downpours, sunshine shone brightly for the weekend, allowing organisers to execute an excellent event on Sunday.

    Ben Rego, Kitimat BC, and Shane, both fought their way through Pro qualifiers and heat races to occupy two of the six starting positions in final moto. Both riding Husaberg TE 300s Ben and Shane entertained the

    packed Wild Rose Motocross Park, near downtown Calgary. Shane was moving forward in the pack, chasing Ben down, when a small mistake in the rocks left Shane on his back with a bent brake rotor.

    He fought hard to make up the lost position, but was not able to repass his lost position, finishing in 5th position. At the end of the day, its hard for a fierce competitor such as Shane, to accept a mistake and the result, they always want more, its what drives them. But I think, looking at the big picture, hes got to be happy, he helped bring Xtreme Enduro back to Canada, and to work with Red Bull, as he has with this event, is very good. Its great for him, and great for our sport to have a passionate drive from Red Bull states Lee Fryberger, CGRT team Manager.

    Ben gated the main in third, and held his own through the six laps to finish on the bottom step of the podium, finishing 3rd to KTMs Canadian Enduro Champion Bobby Prochnau, and winner and expatriate Cory Graffunder.

    Competing in the amateur class, both CGRTs Victoria Hett, Vernon BC, and Ryan Linderman, Hillcrest Mines AB, had mixed results. Ryan had a great day, riding well for

    his first EnduroCross, feeling comfortable until his throttle cable became dislodged from his carburetor.

    The consequential crash left his handle bars bent down into the radiators, and an end to his day. Victoria rode very well in her first heat race, she gated well, and came home with the victory. Her next heat didnt leave her enough time from a poor start to pass into

    the top 3 qualifying positions, being bettered by A&E Racing and Marine/KTM Ben Riviere at the finish. While not finishing with a podium, both riders were had a great experience and cannot wait for Rocks and Logs to return in 2014.

  • As a team, seeing an event of this magnitude in Canada is very good. Red Bull is at the pinnacle of action sports and Xtreme Enduro, and being involved at the competitive level and at the level that Shane was involved, it couldnt get any better.   • Riding season is finally in full swing and my calendar of events is overwhelming. In the next two weeks I will be zigzagging across the whole province from one day to the next.

    Weddings and graduations, family

    and riding club obligations it seems everyone has decided to get everything done this year. This is on top of possibly moving. Snow White patiently waits in the garage. She was running strong until something came loose in the motor. Nothing drastic but I want to check it out before I run her some more.

    It has already shaped up into one of those years where I'm so buried with work I can't even tell when people are piling on more. I had planned to work on Snow White this weekend and even managed to get her on the lift before I finally collapsed into bed.

    When I did get out the garage the next day I found Snow White securely strapped to lift and both lying on their side. Another several hours unstrapping her and getting them both back on their feet. I still don't know what happen. The security camera only shows her upright one second, flaying on the ground the next. The mischievous gremlin that taunts my life seems to have had his way with her.

    Repositioning Snow White revealed that the

    hinges for the large garage door had torn away. Another day wasted repair the door so that I wouldn't find it lying on top of Snow White. Meanwhile Mrs. Monkey is tapping her foot wondering when I penciled some time in for her.

    Life is full of roller coast rides. One year we have all the time in the world, the next we are looking for a 25th and 26th hour.

    One year everything is clicking in full gear and the next we are taking four steps back for everyone forward.

    This last weekend was the only time for the

    next four weeks I had time to look at my bike but that came and went. It is times like these I really miss my bike. Stress levels go through the roof and even a couple of minutes out on the road helps bring the blood pressure down.

    I can tell family and friends that I can't bring a truckload of stuff because I'm on my bike. I will survive. Like the roller coaster it is times like this that makes us feel alive.

    How safe are we with Telematics device? I've been reading quite a bit and have found a lot of positive info about it but the part that scares me are some of the negative things.

    They remind us that for every good electronic thing created there are oodles of bad people making it evil.

    Remember when you could use a debit machine and your only warning was to not use it late at night in an unlit area? Now you have to basically disable the thing to make sure someone hasn't inserted a card reader in there to scoop all your money from your account.

    My kids grew up with me ragging on them to be careful where they leave their credit cards laying around because someone could steal it and go make a purchase with it.

    Now someone can walk past my kids with a scanner in their pocket that scans and maxes out my kids credit cards that they have tucked

    away in a wallet inside their purse.

    Read another story where, I think it was Onstar, that was hacked and they could lock the doors and shut down the ignition while the car was in motion. The last thing I want is my lights going black in the middle of the night when I'm riding on an unfamiliar highway.

    None of these can be considered as paranoid because they've already happened. We might be legit, the manufacturer might be legit, hell SGI might even be legit, but a hacker won't

    be as he taps into whatever computer server that controls the box or the one that stores our information.

    Technology can be awesome, but it can also be awesomely dangerous. Telematics is relatively new here so it may never be something hackers would ever get involved in and as far as the Servers being protected and hack proof I believe if they can hack into the US Military like they have numerous times
