THE CAMPUS SITE 3000 more students will come to Kolding

The goals:

• happy students

• vivid citycentre

• increased density

• connective borders – riverbank, railway bridge, marine

• orientating and directing links

Questions

• How to make the connections between University / Station / City centre visible, functional, clear ?

• Where will students live?

• Where will students recreate?

• Etc.

• Strengths

– culture is present

– water in the town (lake, river, sea)

– Everything is nearby

• Weaknesses – site is not connected with other part of the city

– difficult to orientate, how to get to know

• Improve all kind of connections

• Axis – green, water, stations, pedestrian

• Slow down the traffic by narrowing the road

• Make more trees, like boulevard

• Extend pedestrian areas along the road

• New link through the Quarter

• Connection between University and the Station – LINK with new multifunctional area

– with green yards and buildings as the shelter from the roads ,

– experience of cultural heritage element telling about history of Kolding,

– functions: small services and offices, students living, some general housing,

– good climate comfort zone inside the quarter-link

• Place for meetings and creative events

RAINBOW PROPOSAL • Add new buildings, new structures

• New acesses to harbour

• Allow activities around the Small Harbour

• River- Riverside: bicycles along the riverside, use as stright connection to city centre

• Urban gardening for students near the river

• Better integration of University building into the city structure and context

– Larger green areas around

– Make noise barriers with new building (parking, public/commercial functions in 1-2 levels)

• Create more places for creative – Showroom and exibition place (re-use of harbour building)
