1. Remove The Care Free® Humidifier PlusEvaporative Humidifier from its packaging.Read and Save the Instructions.

2. Place the humidifier on a hard, flat, waterresistant surface. Always place the humidi-fier at least six (6) inches away from walls andsources of heat.

3. Lift the main housing to confirm that thePermaWick™ filters are placed upright in theslots. Replace the main housing. (See Figure 1.)

4. Remove the water tank and take it to thesink or tub to fill.

5. Turn the tank upside down and unscrew thetank cap by turning it counterclockwise. Fillthe water tank with cool water and replacethe tank cap (Never use hot water). Be surenot to overfill the tank as water damage mayoccur to furniture or flooring due to spillage.

HUNTER WILL NOT ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FORDAMAGE TO PROPERTY CAUSED BY WATERSPILLAGE.

6. Carry the tank back to the humidifier. Turnthe tank upright and place it on the humidi-fier. Be sure that the tank is seated properlyin the base. If the tank is properly located onthe base, you will see air bubbles flowing upinto the tank.

7. With the power control knob in the ‘OFF’ po-sition, plug the humidifier into the wall.

CAUTION: Never plug in the Humidifierwhile your hands are wet as Electric Shockcould occur.

8. Use the power/speed control knob toturn the humidifier ‘ON’ by selecting aspeed setting.

Using Your HumidifierOnly for models with Automatic Shut-off

9. When the water tank is empty, the humidi-fier will automatically shut itself off. Thered light will be illuminated, indicating thatthe water tank needs to be refilled.

10. Follow REFILLING THE WATER TANK di-rections. Once the water tank is refilled,the Refill Light will not be illuminated.

Only for models with a NiteGlo™ Night Light

11. Use the control to turn the night light offand on. The night light can be operatedeven if the humidifier fan is turned ‘OFF’.

Using Your Digital HumidistatSetting the Desired Humidity

Note: After unplugging the humidifier tomove the humidifier, to refill the water tank orto clean the humidifier, you must reset thedigital humidistat.

Refer to Figure 6.

1. Use the power/speed control knob toturn the humidifier ‘ON’ by selecting aspeed setting.

Note: A speed setting must be chosenbefore the humidistat will operate the hu-midifier.

2. In normal mode use the humidistat con-trol buttons to set the desired humiditylevel. The settings range from 30% to 80%in 5% increments.

3. When the humidity exceeds the level youhave set, the humidistat light will go off.The humidifier will not output humiditywhile the humidity in the room is at theselected humidity level. The humidistatlight will stay off until the humiditychanges. When the humidity in the roomdrops below the selected level, the humidi-fier will cycle on again and the humidistatlight will come on.

Setting the Span

Refer to Figure 7.

Your humidistat is set at the factory to cycle atsetting 2. If you find your system cycling toofast or too slow, then the Span can be adjustedto modify the cycle time.

4. Press and hold both humidistat controlbuttons for two seconds to enter span set-ting mode.

5. In span mode, use the humidistat controlbuttons to adjust the span. Raise the spanto 3 to increase the cycle time and allowyour system to run longer. Lower the spanto 1 to decrease the cycle time and allowyour system to run shorter.

6. The humidistat display will return to nor-mal mode after keys are idle for 5 seconds.

Cleaning The Humidifier And The Water Tank

Refilling The Water Tank1. When the water tank level is low, turn the

humidifier ‘OFF’, and unplug.

2. Remove the tank and take it to the sink ortub to refill.

3. Turn the tank upside down and unscrew thetank cap by turning it counterclockwise.Empty the tank, refill with fresh cool water(never use hot water), and replace the tankcap. Be sure not to overfill the tank as waterdamage may occur to furniture or flooringdue to spillage.

4. Carry the tank back to the humidifier. Turnthe tank upright and place it on the hu-midifier. Be sure that the tank is seatedproperly in the base. If the tank is properlylocated on the base, you will see air bubblesflowing up into the tank.

Many regions have hard water with highconcentrations of minerals. When waterevaporates from The Care Free® Humidifier PlusEvaporative Humidifier, minerals may be leftbehind. These minerals can form a hard whitescale which can be removed by following thecleaning instructions. The frequency ofcleaning due to mineral build up can varydepending upon the quality of water youmay have.

Refer to Figure 1 for part names.

1. Turn the humidifier ‘OFF’ and unplug theunit.

2. Lift the main housing and remove the wa-ter dispersion tray and the PermaWick™Filters. The motor is attached to the mainhousing. Do not place the motor nearwater. Do not use a wet towel on themotor or motor housing as electricalshock may occur.

3. The PermaWick™ Filter should be cleanedin a vinegar and water solution to removeany mineral buildup. Place in a solution ofone (1) gallon of water and eight (8) ouncesof undiluted white vinegar. Allow the filterto soak for 20 minutes.

4. After soaking, rinse it several times withclean water. Place the PermaWick™ Filter

in a location where it can drip dry whileyou clean the other parts of your humidifier.

5. Remove the water tank from the base andempty any water that is left in the tank.Soak the base in a mixture of one (1) gal-lon of water and eight (8) ounces of vin-egar for 20 minutes.

6. After soaking, wipe the base with a softcloth or sponge to remove any mineralbuild up. Rinse with clean water severaltimes. If you are planning on storing thehumidifier, be sure the base is com-pletely dry.

7. Fill the water tank with one (1) gallon ofwater and eight ounces of undiluted whitevinegar. Replace the tank cap and shakethe tank vigorously until all interior sur-faces of the tank have been exposed to thewater/vinegar mixture.

8. Empty the tank of the water/vinegar mix-ture. Rinse it several times with clean waterand then replace the tank cap. If you areplanning on storing the humidifier, dry itinside and out, leaving the cap off to allowthe tank to completely dry. Continue toclean the other parts of your humidifier.

9. Remove the water diffuser cap and sponge.Rinse the sponge in clean water to removeany debris. If the sponge contains hard

11. Once al l the parts are c lean, reas-semble the humidifier, and follow theUSING YOUR HUMIDIFIER to con-tinue use. If you are storing the hu-midifier, make sure the parts arecompletely dry, reassemble, andstore in a dry location.

If any part of The Care Free® Humidifier PlusEvaporative Humidifier (“Humidifier”) mo-tor fails during the first 5 (five) years from thedate of installation due to a defect in mate-rial or workmanship, we will provide a re-placement part free of charge. If no replace-ment part can be provided for such motor, wewill replace your humidifier.

If your Humidifier motor fails any timewithin 1 (one) year after the date of instal-lation due to a defect in material or work-manship, labor to repair the defect will beprovided free of charge at our nearest ser-vice centre or at our Service Department inMemphis, Tennessee. You will be respon-sible for all parts and labor costs after thisone-year period.

If your Humidifier water tank, filter fame, base,knobs, or tank cap fail any time within 1 (one)year after the date of sale to you due to adefect in material or workmanship, we willrepair or, at our option, replace the water tank,filter frame, base, knobs, or tank cap free ofcharge for parts or labor performed at our near-est service centre or our Service Departmentin Memphis, Tennessee.
