Multi-media entertainment mogul Reba McEntire has become a household name through a successful career that spans across music, television, film, theater, and retail. The Country Music Hall of Fame and Hollywood Bowl member has won 16 ACM Awards, 15 American Music Awards, 9 People’s Choice Awards, 6 CMA Awards, 3 GRAMMY® Awards, and a GMA Dove Award. The Grand Ole Opry member has also received the Andrea Bocelli Foundation Humanitarian Award, Leadership Music Dale Franklin Award, the Music Biz Chairman’s Award, the National Artistic Achievement Award from the U.S. Congress, and membership into the Horatio Alger Association, in addition to other philanthropic and leadership honors. In 2018, the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame presented Reba with the inaugural Career Maker Award for her significant influence on the songwriting careers of Nashville songwriters. She also joined an elite group of creators as one of the 2018 Kennedy Center Honors recipients for her lifetime artistic achievements alongside Cher, Philip Glass, Wayne Shorter, and the creators of Hamilton – writer and actor Lin-Manuel Miranda, director Thomas Kail, choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler, and music director, Alex Lacamoire. The 2019 Academy of Country Music Awards™ marks her sixteenth time hosting the show.

In 2017, she marked her thirteenth summit as “Sing It Now: Songs of Faith & Hope” topped both the Billboard Country and Christian/Gospel charts, bolstering Reba’s successful record of 35 No. 1 singles and over 56 million albums sold worldwide. The double-disc collection earned Reba her first GMA Dove Award for Bluegrass/Country/Roots Album of the Year and third GRAMMY® Award for Best Roots Gospel Album. In April 2019, she released a new album, “Stronger than the Truth,” on Big Machine Records. Reba co-produced the 12-track project with Buddy Cannon in Nashville.

The Oklahoma native is an acclaimed actress with 11 movie credits to her name, a lead role on Broadway in Irving Berlin’s Annie Get Your Gun, and starred in the six-season television sitcom Reba. In 2005, she partnered with Dillard’s to launch her own lifestyle brand, and most recently launched the REBA by Justin™ western footwear collection at select retailers nationwide. She was named the first female and musician to portray KFC’s iconic founder Colonel Harland Sanders in the brand’s celebrity colonel campaign. Throughout 2019, she will bring that same bubbly energy and penchant for excellence to Las Vegas as part of the longest-running Country residency in The Colosseum’s history alongside her superstar pals for REBA, BROOKS & DUNN: Together In Vegas at Caesars.

Founders Award Richard Abrams, M.D. will be presented with the Founders Award at The Carousel Ball in honor of the instrumental role he has played in advancing diabetes care over the past four decades.

Richard Abrams, M.D.Dr. Abrams has practiced internal medicine for over 40 years at Rose Medical Center, where he founded Colorado Preventive Medicine in 2006. His professional focus is based on the assumption that prevention or early detection of treatable disease is the key to a long, healthy life.

One of Rick’s proudest accomplishments was his role in demonstrating that women with type 1 diabetes could become pregnant and safely deliver healthy babies. Forty years ago most physicians firmly believed that having a family was simply out of the question for women with diabetes. Dr. Abrams and colleagues showed that with contemporary diabetes care, pregnancy was safe for both mother and child.

Rick edited the first editions of the American Diabetes Association books--Diabetes During Pregnancy and Gestational Diabetes. He has also written and edited 5 medical books and numerous articles. His book, Will It Hurt the Baby, was featured on NBC’s Today Show, ABC’s Good Morning America, and CBS’s This Morning.

A highlight of Rick’s professional life is serving on the Children’s Diabetes Foundation (CDF) Board of Directors and Scientific Advisory Board for over 30 years. The Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes (BDC) is one of the nation’s premier clinical care facilities and research centers. His participation in the success of the CDF and BDC continues to be an honor.

Rick’s life is enriched by the love and support of his wife Carol, his son Brian, his daughter Katie, daughter-in-law Nora, son-in-law Tzur, and his 3 grandsons Xander, Knox, and Liam.

High Hopes Tribute Award Lisa & Tom Corley will be presented with the High Hopes Tribute Award at The Carousel Ball in honor of their 20 years of service and support of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation and for their unending support of the Colorado community.

Lisa CorleyLisa Corley was born and raised in Colorado. In her early years, Lisa attended Thornton High School, started her undergraduate degree at the University of Colorado at Denver, then transferred to Regis University where she continued her combined undergraduate/graduate studies in organizational behavior.

Lisa has over 25 years of experience in Legal Administration and Law Firm Management previously working for Kutak Rock; Davis, Graham & Stubbs; and LeBeauf Lamb Green & McRae.

She is a current board member for A Precious Child, former board member for Warren Village and president-elect for The Guild of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation, where she has been a member for 20+ years. She has held numerous leadership roles for The Guild of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation, including co-chairing The Carousel Ball silent auction and chair of the Spring Brass Ring Luncheon & Fashion Show. Lisa has also been involved in many other organizations, including Craig Hospital Foundation, Denver Center for Performing Arts’ education program, Junior League of Denver, Kemp Center, Valor Christian High School, and Adams County Head Start and manages their private family foundation – The Corley Legacy Foundation.

In her spare time, Lisa enjoys organizing family events and vacations, family reunions, and photo albums. She also loves planning and hosting events for specials causes, holidays, and friends and family.

Tom CorleyA Colorado Native, Tom Corley, was a graduate of Ranum High School in Westminster. After high school, he attended the Colorado School of Mines, worked his way through college, and focused his career path towards the oil and gas business. Tom graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering in 1983. He is a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity.

Today, he co-manages Meritage Energy (MECO IV), a small private oil and gas company headquartered in downtown Denver with his business partner Sam Winegrad. The two have previously built and sold three prior companies. Tom has over 35 years of experience in all facets of the industry and previously worked for companies such as General Atlantic Resources, St. Mary Land and Exploration, and Basin Exploration.

Tom is a member of the Board of Trustees for A Precious Child and president of their private family foundation – The Corley Legacy Foundation. Tom’s hobbies include fly fishing, weight training, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and playing the guitar.

Lisa and Tom have been married for 34 years and have two children, Alex and Spencer.

The Reason Proceeds from The Carousel Ball benefit the Children’s Diabetes Foundation, the fundraising arm of the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes, and focuses on patient support, awareness, and diabetes research.

OUR CAUSE IS IMPORTANT NOW MORE THAN EVEROver 40 years ago, when the Children’s Diabetes Foundation and the Barbara Davis Center were created, diabetes looked like a completely different disease. Blood testing didn’t exist, synthetic insulins were unheard of, and you had to boil syringes in water before injecting large needles.

Today, we have artificial pancreases, continuous glucose monitors, a choice between insulin pumps or injections, and so many other exciting medications and therapies that make diabetes management fit into the patient’s life, not the other way around. The Barbara Davis Center is such a huge contributor to these advancements as they continually work on cutting-edge technology and medications.

But we haven’t reached the finish line. Diabetes requires constant management and the physical, emotional, and social stress that diabetes can cause is ever-present in a type 1’s life.

The Children’s Diabetes Foundation and the Barbara Davis Center are fighting every day to improve patient lives by providing the best possible patient care, hosting support groups, educating the public, and doing research to prevent diabetes, reduce its complications, and eventually find a cure.

The people who are affected by type 1 diabetes aren’t just patients.

They are our heroes and we will help them every step of the way.
