BAPTISM, MARRIAGE: Please contact the parish office to arrange an appointment for celebrating the sacrament of Baptism or Marriage. CATECHUMENS: RCIA invites people of all ages interested in becoming Catholics through Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. Contact the parish office. SACRAMENT OF ANOINTING: Celebrated 2x a year-Spring & Fall or by appointment. SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION: Held during Lent and Advent as well as by appointment. Please call the parish office. SICK CALLS: Please call the Office at any time. We will also bring Holy Communion to anyone who is unable to attend Mass. HOLY DAYS: Please call the office for times or check our website. PRISON MINISTRY: Please call the office if you are interested in helping. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS: Knights of Columbus meet the third Wednesday of each month beginning with the Rosary at 5:45pm and the meeting starting 6:15pm, followed by a social with wives and guests at 7:15pm. Everyone is welcome. The KOC are willing to provide transportation to any church activities. Call Grand Knight Gary Richardson, 776-0949.

VISITATION SINGERS: You are invited to sing at Dockside Nursing Home and Riverside Convalescent Center one day a month(3rd Wednesday). We start off with a short practice at Visitation and then sing at both facilities. We will bring one or two guitars and any available singers to entertain the residents, singing hymns, light songs they know, and songs for the season. For information, call Carol McCormack at 804-725-1656. KNITTING MINISTRY: A loving ministry that meets every 1st and 3rd Monday (10am at the church) each month, weather permitting. Please call Lynne Richardson 776-0949. FOOD PANTRY: Our church supplies food/toiletries to the Cryer Center to provide help to the community as needed. Items may be dropped off in the baskets provided, as you enter church. RECYCLABLE CANS: Church of the Visitation recycles cans, with profits going to church ministries. Bring your aluminum cans to the bin outside, by the playground.

BEHIND THE SCENES The volunteer services of our parishioners are extraordinary and provide the framework for a healthy and strong religious community. Many of you know the Ministry heads and observe the persons who each Sunday provide a visible presence of their church and parish commitment, but what about those who do the “behind the scenes” tasks that help enrich our community? Weekly, we will highlight these invisible ones for your information. Today we honor Peg Williams. She provides the flowers for the statue of Mary that adorns the front right corner of the Sanctuary. Thank you Peg.

OCTOBER 23RD-AFTER MASS DVD presentation “Faithful Citizenship, Catholics and the Political Process.” Bishops DeLorenzo and Loverde discuss the baptismal responsibility of Catholics to participate in political life. Based on the US Catholic Bishops’ statement “Forming Conscience for Faithful Citizenship.” The DVD explains seven key themes of Catholic social teaching and the duty to vote with a well-formed conscience. Join us October 23rd.

pared a congressional voter guide with suggested questions voters should ask their candidates and offering four principles of Catholic social teaching that voters should consider before casting their ballots.

NEW BISHOP OF ARLINGTON Pope Francis named Bishop Michael F. Burbidge to serve as the new Bishop for the Diocese of Ar-

lington. He is currently serving as the Bishop of the Dio-cese of Raleigh, NC and the chair of the USCCB Com-

mittee for clergy, consecrated life, and vocations.

“Act of God”? “Climate change”? “Human footprint”? Another major hurricane has left so much

devastation and tragedy to so many. It will take months for our country to rebuild and the loss of

individual lives cannot be replaced. Again, one of the world’s poorest nations was

especially hard hit. And again, funds will be started and we will be asked to contribute goods and

money to alleviate some of that distress. Let’s Respect Life with humble thanks that

we have something positive to do for others. Let’s respect our natural world, too.

Reduce, reuse, recycle, save a few dollars and donate just that little extra to one of these funds.

CROSSING THE RIVER Thanks to everyone who helped make our

“Crossing the River” seminar a success! We had 48 attendees with 5 speakers, a delicious

breakfast, and interesting Q&A. Our speakers included: Father Gerry, Ed Harriman, Sue Moffitt, RN from

Riverside Hospice, Attorney Andrew Bury from Urbanna, and the Honorable Lynn Dunlevy, Middlesex County Clerk of the Court. They were all excellent and generously volunteered their valuable time. To all who made copies, filled notebooks, set up tables, made and served food, and cleaned up when we finished—THANK YOU!
