MEMORIAL MASSES Have you requested a Memorial Mass for a friend or relative? If you have and you would like to bring the gifts to the altar at that Mass, please sit near the gifts and bring them up when Father comes forward to receive them. (After the Prayers of the Faithful)

PRAYER REQUESTS St. Edward Just a reminder, that there is a binder on the table in the Narthex in which you are invited to place the names of all those for whom you ask us to pray. You are most welcome to enter names in this booklet in order that prayers may be offered for your loved ones.

Dear Friends, On behalf of Fr. Vozzo, Deacon Fred, our parish staffs, and myself, I wish you and your loved ones the blessings of the Easter season. Sometimes we think of Christmas as being the greatest feast of the church year, when in reality it is Easter. Without the Easter event—Christ’s Resurrection from the dead—we would not be a church today. If Christ had not been raised from the dead, Jesus would have been seen as a failed preacher who made great claims about Himself, but those claims would have ended with His death and He would have been perhaps a footnote in history. Without the Resurrection, His disciples would have run away, hid, and pretended that they have never been associated with Jesus. But all changed with the Easter event—Jesus appeared to His disciples; their faith in Him was revived; they went on to spread the Gospel with great courage and even faced death for their beliefs—all because they realized that this life is not all there is and, for the faithful followers of Jesus, death is a pathway from this life to life eternal. At times, life can seem burdensome and unfair. Bad things happen even to very good people. Sometimes following Jesus can be challenging. But as St. Paul reminds us, nothing in this life compares with life with God in Heaven. On this Easter Sunday may we recommit ourselves to following Christ and His way of life more faithfully; may our words and example help others to invite Christ into their lives; and most especially when life is difficult may we remember Christ’s promise to be with us always and, after our journey of life here on earth, bring us to life with Jesus in Heaven where all tears are wiped away and we are with the Lord and all those we have loved on earth in the joy and peace of Heaven. Easter blessings.

Fr. Culloty

Annual Faith Formation Lenten Projects "Dollars for Dolly" through the Saint Rock Foundation: a young woman in Haiti has been working as a translator for the Foundation and is going to nursing school. Last year we sponsored a large portion of her 2nd year of nursing school, and we hope to sponsor a large portion of her 3rd year. A video of Dolly has been sent to all our Faith Formation families. Dolly's story is heart warming.

Need a Sitter for a School or Town Meeting, Date Night, Any Night Out? St. Edward's has 18 teens traveling to Guatemala for a mission trip through Cross Catholic Outreach this coming June. They will work to dig wells and bring clean water to the poor in a rural village within Santa Rosa. As a group, we need to raise $7000 towards our water project, so the students are coming up with clever ways to raise these funds. One idea was to offer babysitting services and donate the money earned. If you are looking for a sitter, consider hiring one of our mission trip teens: they will donate their time and whatever you would otherwise pay your sitter we ask that you please donate it to our water project. Babysitting checks or donations can be made out to St. Edward with "Guatemala water project" in the memo section of the check. Please contact Tricia Buzgo: [email protected] to coordinate a babysitter.

Lenten Bake Sale Thank You For nine years Teri Keene and Jessica Benson have organized and run our annual bake sale to support our Lenten Service Project. We are grateful to their children, Grace, Amelia, and Hannah Keene and Mary Katherine and Colin Benson who have faithfully and enthusiastically planned and work at all nine bake sales! Additional student volunteers included Emily Underwood and Marcus D’Angelo.

Together they raised $1,793.25! Thank you to all who donated a baked good, purchased

baked goods, or made a donation.

BBQ and Games for All Ages

Clean and abundant water, accessible from each of our homes, is a blessing. Eighteen Faith in Action Teens from St. Edward are going on a mission trip to Guatemala this June to help bring clean water to a remote village outside of Cuilapa, in the Diocese of Santa Rosa. The teens have already self-funded their trip fees, but need to raise a minimum of $7000 towards a gravity-fed water system. They will dig trenches and lay down piping so that the poor can soon have clean water for drinking, bathing, cleaning and gardening. More information to come.

NEW LIFE HOME REFURNISHING (NewLifeHR.org) depends on the generosity of others to supply families in need with gently used furniture, appliances and household goods. We have recently experienced a surge in the number of referred households, and, at the same time, a drop in donations over the winter due to inclement weather. Although we are in need of all household items, we are especially in need of couches and dressers or other storage pieces with drawers. Donations can be dropped off on Saturdays between 9 and 11:30 at the warehouse at 102 Elm Street in Walpole. New Life can also be scheduled to do a pickup for more than one large furniture item, but please note, we usually schedule out two weeks in advance. Visit newlifehr.org and click on “Donate" to request a time for a furniture pickup. Please also see our website for the items we do and do not take.

organization, and there are no dues, fees, or weigh-ins. Weekly meetings are held on Sundays at 8 AM and Tuesdays at 7:00 PM in West Roxbury at the VA Hospital, 1400 VFW Parkway in the Barsamiam Auditorium and also on Thursdays at 7:00 PM at the First Congregational Church, 29 North Main Street in Sharon.
