November 2019
——Pastor Jerry at Bishop’s Convocation——
November 2019 The Cent-I-Gram 3
If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord; so then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s. Romans 14:8
In Holy Baptism God makes saints out of sinners. In Holy Communion God forgives the sins of all the saints. In the worshiping assembly on November 3rd, we will give thanks for all the saints “who from their labors rest,” those who have fought the good fight, who have gained the crown. Each week, we are joined in worship by those who have gone before us, this “great cloud of witnesses” who from their labors rest. Recalling that we have been sealed by the Holy Spirit and sustained by the Savior’s body and blood, we keep the mystery of faith alive. God gives us breath to the praise of God’s glory. If you haven’t been in worship for a while, why not join us on All Saints Sunday for a special remembrance service? Then, on Saturday, November 9, from 9:30 until 2:30, you are welcome to join others from Centennial for a “Vitality Awareness Day.” This special event will be held on the campus of the United Lutheran Seminary in Mt. Airy. During the day we will be helped by the Synod’s Vitality Team in raising awareness of ministry efforts designed to strengthen our congregation. This is so that Centennial remains vital as a community of faith. This day is primarily for the lay leadership of congregations in our Synod. It is designed for anyone who is interested in recovering the joy of ministry that makes a difference. The Keynote presentations will feature members of the Vitality Team who will present ways that congregations can be attentive to their “vital signs.” During our time together we will receive tools to discover and assess our own congregational health as we explore in-depth characteristics of thriving and vital congregations. Each participant will also be able to attend three breakout sessions as we dive deeper into discovering ways to create vital communities of faith. The registration for Centennial has already been paid, and it includes lunch and a light breakfast for all. Later in the month, on Sunday, November 24, we’ll close out the church year on Christ the King Sunday. Then, we turn our attention to the beginning of Advent on December 1st. There is much happening this fall at Centennial. Please come to be a part of our life together in Christ. In the Name of the risen Lord,
Pastor Tancredi

TEAM REPORTS: Finance: (See Attached for Report Details) Property team: Larry reported on September 6 he met with the Chester County Department of Emergency
Services. He received literature regarding security and safety issues applicable to a public building to
digest. Literature includes safety drills, security issues, and a person that has an issue with a congregant.
Emergency Services with the East Pikeland Police Department will take a walk through the building and
make suggestions. They indicated security concerns elevate when an incident is on the national news.
Community awareness is their largest hurdle. He has two quotes for a door locking system and an alarm
system from a security company to be notified if someone is in the building. Jim, Denise, and Larry will
discuss the quotes and have a report and recommendation for the next council meeting.
Stewardship: Rick reported the team is preparing gift intent packages (estimates of giving). The estimates of giving will be distributed on October 13. They will be collected on Consecration Sunday October 27. The team expects to report the findings two weeks later with a total estimate of giving. Present Tense After “turkey day” came and went last year, a pastor challenged church members to ask one another not “How was your Thanksgiving?” but “How is your Thanksgiving?” After all, giving thanks should be an ongoing act. That doesn’t always need to be profoundly deep, either. A.J. Jacobs, author of Thanks a Thousand, once asked a philosophy-professor friend what he was grateful for. The shockingly simple reply? “Sometimes I’m just grateful I have arms.” That odd but spot-on answer shows the importance, Jacobs says, of being “thankful for things so omnipresent that they can escape our notice.” So … how is your Thanksgiving?
