What does race have to do with transportation? Nationally, over 50% of African
Americans live more than 5 miles from job centers, as do more than 40% of all Latinos and Asians, compared to one-third of Whites
24% of African-American, 17% of Latino and 13% of Asian-American households do not own a car, compared with only 7% of White households.
African Americans are nearly six times as likely as whites to rely on public transit to get around, and Latinos are three times as likely as Whites to depend on public transportation.
