Through August 31Stuff the Bus United Way’s annual Stuff the Bus campaign provides school supplies to over 8,500 students throughout the Keys every year. Statistics prove that students who have access to the school supplies they need consistently have stronger rates of class participation and arrive at school with a desire to learn.
WHO: You — Our community members, businesses, organizations, and civic groups. For sponsorship opportunities, please call our office at 305-735-1929.WHAT: Raise funds to purchase school supplies for Monroe County children. 100% of funds collected go directly to local Monroe County Schools.WHEN: Donate until August 31! Early in the school year, funds will be disbursed so schools may purchase supplies needed by their students. August 3Full Moon GatheringFree event 7:45pm-8:45pmat Fl Keys YogaJoin us each month the night of the full moon for guided meditation, intention setting, manifestation and creative movement. Wear comfortable clothes, bring a journal and essential oil of your choice if you’d like (there will be oils provided as well).
August 15Mermaids at Aquarium Encounters9:30am-4:30pm at Florida Keys Aquarium EncountersNarrated swim shows at 9:30 am and 1:30 pm. Private mermaid meet and greets available after each show. You can even sign up to swim with the mermaids in the coral reef tank! Shows are included with general admission. Private meet and greets are $5 per family and include 5 minutes with the mermaid, photos, and a gift from the mermaid. Register to swim with the mermaids by calling Aquarium Encounters, or sign up at the front desk when arriving.
MARATHON EVENTS & HAPPENINGS
Dear Valued Member, Hoping this finds you well, and that you survived lobster mini season! While the week of mini season is hectic and daunting, and add in a pandemic; it still has a huge economic impact on our local businesses and community. With Fall around the corner, and traditionally our slowest months of the year forthcoming, we need every opportunity to best financially position ourselves for the slowdown as well as these uncertain times.
On that note, your Marathon Chamber is still helping to connect and push businesses that already haven’t, to apply for the Payroll Protection Plan loans, which believe it or not are still available! Contact us to help, or contact your local bank and CPA to get the application process going. Here are a few other items we are working on to help you and your business:
• Layoff Aversion Grants: grants for businesses to apply for to reimburse for certain expenses that allowed staff to work remotely (IT/computer equipment, etc.), office-based supplies/equipment (cleaning supplies, sneeze guards, etc.), short-time compensation program (work sharing), etc. Grants range from $5,000 to $10,000 depending on number of employees.• Your Marathon Chamber is helping to process grant applications with a budget of $150,000 so apply ASAP, or call me with any questions.• PPP Forgiveness Webinar Aug. 18th at 1PM (co-hosted with our SBDC): webinar on starting your forgives application for your PPP loan.
Lastly, it is that time of year for us to hold our Board of Directors elections. You will find an application with more information included in this Newsletter. Any member in good standing can run and be placed on the ballot. Serving on the Chamber Board is a great way to not only help your Chamber, but the 550+ businesses we represent.
