PRESIDENT

Dear 41er, Greetings to you as we onset the new 41ing year!! Fostering and building friendships is the main focus of the year as we celebrate our togetherness under one banner of 41 Clubs of India. We have recently concluded the Half Year Meet of the 41 International and our National AGM at Bangalore last week. The last guest after the post tours have left, totally amazed satisfied and excited after their visit to our country. We had 575 registration with a few cancellation and no shows, in all the event was a grand success .Lots of people to thank for their support, gifts and monetary support. This event is the result of a strong association and a team of friends working together for each other. On the Nagm front we had a packed house for the resolutions and a three way election. The birth of a new area - Area 8. Good amount of deliberations, the launch of “Forty Four Years of 41 Clubs in India” a book by R.V Rajan was a landmark of the AGM. Past President Sridharan has done remarkable work for the Association as President. Be it the secretariat, accounts, extension, hats of to this dynamic ‘young man’.We start this year with celebration at UTSAV, (the HYM and Nagm) continuing the festive mood, lets continue celebrating our lives with the very essence of our association, our friendship, our family with a very apt theme “Cheers to 41”. A very dynamic board, small effective team has been elected/appointed which will take us through 2016-17.Enjoy the moment and be a part of this long celebration, few points to look forward too, we have planned inbound mass tours to Jaipur (Feb 3 to 5), Nasik (April 28 to 30), Kodaikanal (July 28 to 30). Please mark your calendars and attend these to cherish the fellowships of 41 Clubs of India.Growth of our association is happening with new clubs being formed. Support to Tangents too shall be there. Much more in store which shall be communicated through the e-connect magazine.Take care of yourself be safe, Smita and my kids joins me in wishing you a very Happy Diwali. Warm regards,

Gopal Chopra President 2016-17

On a beautiful Friday 14th Oct morning we golfers were greeted by Golf Convener Gurjit Singh & Dren at Bengaluru Golf club. As is customary in golf, we were given our goodies bag along with a beautiful straw hat with colourful flags of 25 member countries of the 41 International fraternity. It was indeed a well organised tournament with 22 gentlemen & 4 ladies golfer. It had attracted some foreign participants from Germany, Austria, Switzerland & Belgium. Though it was a short course it was a challenging one with lots of water bodies & hazards. Over 18 well contested rounds, the winner was none other than our recently anointed Chairman Area 1 - Rajesh Ahuja who played an excellent round of few under. He received the Winners Running Trophy from our esteemed President Sridharan Chettiar at the glittering Informal Night function.

It was widely expected to be a very good event, but it would be

as grand was beyond imagination! This despite a tragedy that struck Vice President

cum AGM/HYM convenor Gopal Chopra’s family just 3 days before.

Starting with the salubrious, lush green environs and the setting of the beautiful Taj West End Hotel, Bangalore, to the Convention Hall, where the official proceeding were conducted, the food, decor and the warmth exuded by the presence of the huge congregation of friends, both from India and abroad, was as wonderful a delight as one could hope for. From the moment of arrival to departure (after 2 nights) it was a packed programme. President Sridharan Chettiar’s Tea Party at the Blue bar set the ball rolling. The House Parties, very well arranged, to follow that evening brought back nostalgic memories of the Round

Table times. The participants partied till late in the night. The following morning was the day of official proceedings of the Association of 41 Clubs Of India. The day began with the 5th & last Board

Meeting under the stewardship of the outgoing President Sridharan Chettiar.

At 11:00 AM, the appointed time, for the commencement of the AGM, the Ball Room (venue for the AGM) started filling up and the Meeting was called to order. It was remarkable that unlike previous AGMs, much to the Presidents relief, the quorum was established at first count and therefore helped saving precious time.

The meeting’s Agenda rolled by smoothly with President Chettiar’s, efficient & polite but firm conduct of the proceedings. The meeting was made extremely enjoyable

as it was interspersed with some great humour from the 3 Sargeants at Arms viz Vagish Dixit, Punit Sampat and Alok Marda.

Despite a plethora of resolutions to be considered and passed, followed by the Vice-Presidential election under the watchful vigil of the scrutineers

B.V. Ramanan & Rohit Pombra, the AGM closed at a little past 4:00 pm, establishing a record of sorts. The Informal Night (UTSAV NIGHT) was held at the sprawling & beautiful “Prince Of Wales Lawns”. The dress code was ‘Ethnic Indian’ resulting in a riot of colour. All Board Members as well as select foreign guests were invited to wear Rajasthani Turbans which lent these gentlemen a distinguished look. The liquor flowed, and the entertainment enthralled the gathering. There was gaiety and

fellowship all around. Later that evening there was an after-party at the Ball Room which went on till late in the night.

Day 3, October 15th was the day for the 41 International HYM. The HYM was called to order by President Englebert Freidsam at sharp 9:00 am. In all delegates from 22 countries including India were present. The HYM was as usual a sedate but professional affair. A workshop was held to get the views of the various partner associations on whether or not all countries should have a similar sounding name and whether or not the name should reflect an association with Round Table. Four groups were formed and the leader of each group summarised the

discussions of their respective groups for the Board to analyse and report in the future. The evening saw the venue changed to Taj Vivanta, Yeshwantpur. At the glittering Banner Exchange at 5:00 pm India was represented by President Sridharan Chettiar & AGM/ HYM Convenor Gopal Chopra. The undersigned was assigned the role of Master Of Ceremonies. The Gala Banquet and the Change - Over ceremony was resplendent in its

grandeur. Five hundred seventy guests both from India & overseas partook in a ‘Silver Spoon’ sit down Dinner. A scrumptious & delicious five course meal with excellent wine was served. The entertainment was enthralling, which held everyone spellbound by some Rio Carnival type pagentry and classical dances. This was followed by some energetic dancing by all, which went on till the ‘wee hours’ of the morning.

The Change - Over was a solemn affair. The incoming President in a brief investiture ceremony inducted his new Board Members and unveiled

his theme for the year “Cheers 41” signalling that good times were ahead for our fraternity.

Sunday was the day for the 1st Board Meeting of the incoming team, followed by loads of Beer, Brunch and sentimental adieus with promises to meet again and to continue our friendships from where we left off.Having attended 13 AGMs in the past 14 years, the 36th AGM at Bangalore was the grandest of them all. Congratulations to the AGM Team led by none other than President Gopal Chopra and his wife Smita Chopra whose personal touch and involvement made the event what it was! An occasion to REMEMBER!!!“Cheers 41”

The recently concluded 41 International

HYM witnessed the participation of 25 Countries and

about 200 International Delegates. The highlights of the meeting are presented here.

House Parties The HYM committee had organized “House Parties “ wherein the delegates participated in small groups in the evening parties arranged at homes of local 41 ers. This event provided an excellent opportunity for the delegates to spend time together with some other international delegates as well as local host’s family. For the first time this facility had been organized with careful planning and the delegates could experience the bonhomie of Round Table days.

Indian Night

Dazzling attire of the delegates, spectacular performance by the renowned troupe, caressing weather marked the Friday evening of the HYM. The flashes of cameras mimicked the lightning from the skies above. Fun and frolic filled the air. An evening of celebration of friendship ended with guests returning reluctantly to their rooms.

HYM DiscussionPresident Engelbert Friedsam initiated a group discussion on the name and logo of 41 International. The National Councillors were divided into 4 groups and views and opinions of all the Councillors were analyzed. After a two

hour deliberation President informed that the summery of the views will be presented at the next AGM.

Vice President 2018-19Belgium confirmed Lux Trigaux as their candidate for Vice President 2018-19.

Assistant YAP ConvenerKyriakos of 41 Cyprus was appointed as the Assistant International YAP Convener.

Home hostingA unique opportunity to experience the culture and living styles of Indian homes and to build strong bonds of friendship with Ex-Tablers of India was made possible by the Mini-Famex program. Twenty foreign delegates took advantage of this opportunity and were hosted in the homes of Indian 41er’s before and after the HYM adding more value to their visit to India.

Pre and Post tours- were sold out. Participants thoroughly enjoyed the tours except probably the Golden Chariot group that felt the tour was not up to their expectations.

The forthcoming AGM will be held in Sun City, South Africa from May 5th to 7th 2017.

The next HYM is scheduled for the 27th - 29th October 2017 at Riccione in Italy. www.hym2017italy.com

dances were over, the DJ took over with pulsating music which brought one and all to the dance floor. One could see the foreign guests dancing to the Bollywood beats, appearing

Indian in every way.Mouth watering snacks were served by the hovering waiters. Dinner was a lip smacking variety of cuisines from, Gujarat, Hyderabad, Rajasthan and the North. So one had a variety to choose from. From the Hyderabadi kitchen, their world famous ‘biryani’ and ‘salan’, the ‘Lal Maas’ of Rajasthan, oh! so confusing, that one ended up trying most of the items along with a variety of tandoori ‘Rotis’, ‘mirchi paranthas’ or the stuffed ‘kulchas’. The Dessert were mind boggling, the variety was immense. To drown the sumptous spread were the heady wines. A few party hoppers headed to the lounge and danced till the wee hours of the morning! The informal evening will surely remain etched in the minds of one and all. Wow! what an evening.

The Prince of Wales garden was exquisely lit up

making the lush green lawns of the Taj West End stand out. Fairy lights covered the trees.

Colourful lights accentuated the stage. It was indeed time to celebrate Utsav.

Matching the theme participants National and International were all dressed opulently. Guests were in their best Indian attire, with matching jewellery too. The headgear or Turbans made all stand out majestically like Maharajas.Hellos and hugs over people made a beeline for the bar. Once they got their favourite drinks for the evening, some settled on the chairs around

the tables done up in lace tablecloths with flowers on it. Some chose to meander around to meet up with friends from near and far.

Friends huddled in groups getting the photographer to capture the moment. When he was not around,

mobile phones were used for selfies. Posing with long lost friends from far and near. To take back these prized memories which would remain with them for times immemorable! As the evening proceeded, spectacular performances began. The stage already a riot of colours became resplendent as the performers displayed their artistic moves to Shlokas from the Bhagwad and Mahabharata. The vivid scene of Draupadi and the Kauravas, the chariot of Lord Krishna all portrayed through the dances were beautifully depicted.Once the classical
