A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to John:

No one can have greater love than to lay down his

life for his friends.

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘As the Father has loved

me, so I have loved you. Remain in my love. If you

keep my commandments you will remain in my love,

just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and

remain in his love. I have told you this so that my own

joy may be in you and your joy be complete. This is

my commandment: love one another, as I have

loved you. A man can have no greater love than to

lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends, if

you do what I command you. I shall not call you serv-

ants any more, because a servant does not know his

master’s business; I call you friends, because I have

made known to you everything I have learnt from my

Father. You did not choose me, no, I chose you; and I

commissioned you to go out and to bear fruit, fruit

Sixth Sunday Year B Reflection

I CALL YOU FRIENDS. We often refer to Jesus by honorific titles, such as Lord, but do we also think of Him, as He thinks of us, as a Friend? The Talmud suggests that we should do two things: acquire a Teacher and choose a Friend. In Jesus, we have both, the best teacher and the best Friend we could ever hope to have. Jesus calls us to love as He did. That means, a Love that does not concern itself with our wants, our own de-sires, our own emotions, it means a Love that is willing to give of ourselves, a love that does not count the cost, a love that is extended even to those we would not normally want to love. This is, truly, a love that is stronger than death. By showing this love, then we become people for others, just like Jesus. We must pray for a deeper commitment in our lives to that Christian love that does not just inwardly desire but outwardly gives.

Children’s Liturgy: First Sunday of the Month, 6 May During the 11.00 am Mass at Dallas. Encourage little children to attend and learn more of Jesus. To pray, understand and love Him, and keep Him close in our midst.

Mass Count For your information - It is the requirement from The Archdiocese of Melbourne, that each Parish is requested to count the number of people attending weekend Masses during the month of May. We would appreciate a volunteer taking on this duty at each Mass they attend and do the counting. Special work sheets will be available in the Sacristy for this purpose. At the end of each Mass, the volunteer should handover the completed sheet to Father, who in turn will bring it to the Parish Office. This has to be done for 4 consecutive weeks in May. Thank You.
