The Church in Oklahoma Window We selected this stained glass window as the logo for the 78 th Annual Episcopal Church Women's Conference and Bishop's Day because we consider this to be our “home” window. The Rt. Rev. Francis Key Brooke, first bishop of the Missionary District of Oklahoma, is the focal point. Visible in the top of the window is the Diocesan shield. Also included in this area is a typical Indian village with an Indian sun-worshipper astride his pony. Research indicates that a tribal village of Caddo Indians, who lived in tepees, occupied the land where Grace Episcopal Church now stands. In the lower right section are the symbols on the flag of the State of Oklahoma which was designed by Ponca City native, Mrs. George Fluke. Mistletoe, the state floral emblem, is draped over the arch of this window. In the base panel is the first church building owned by this congregation located at Seventh and Central Avenue. It was from this building that the move was made to the present church at Thirteenth and Grand. Nearly two years went into designing and manufacturing the window which is the work of J. Wippell & Co. Ltd., Exeter, England, a company which dates back to 1790. When this window was installed in the 1950s, Rector Thomas Moehle remarked, “It is expected that this window will prove more interesting and meaningful to members of Grace Church and the community than any in this stained glass series.” This example is just one of the vast number of exquisitely detailed stained glass windows which enhance Grace Episcopal Church and the Christian Education Building. We look forward to having you tour our magnificent place of worship! 2

A Special Invitation to YOU!Dear Friends,This year’s Episcopal Women’s Spring Conference and Bishop’s Day will be held at Grace Episcopal Church, Ponca City, April 24-25. Our theme for this conference,”Speak Lord, Your Servant is Listening,” will have a new interpretation after hearing the inspiring Address by Bishop Ed and the spiritual words of Keynote Speaker, Fr. Lee Stephens. Here is your opportunity to grow in the Holy Spirit! Our special surprise guest is “Wesley” who will be dressed in “black tie” to greet you as you arrive in our spectacular Parish Hall. We are excited for you to tour our magnificent place of worship, with its multitude of extraordinary stained glass windows and our state-of the-art Christian Education Building. Topping your visit will be a tour to our “Mansion on the Prairie,” an exquisite Italian Renaissance mansion owned by former governor and senior warden of Grace Episcopal Church, E. W. Marland. If you are like me and have not attended a Women’s Conference in a long time, here is your chance of a lifetime! Spend these two days having your life enriched with comforting words from Mother Debora, an audio/visual look at Fr. Dee Bright’s horrific life and death experience while living in Liberia and on a lighter note, Wesley’s delightful life story. There will be new items in our Gift Shop that you can’t live without, especially a stained glass Episcopal shield created by one of our parishioners - perfect for your front window. Our exhibitors will feature displays which will peak your interest and inform you. So, PLEASE, think this over and decide to drive to Ponca City. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - FRIDAY, APRIL 24:10:15 a. m. In the Parish Hall, -The Rev. Dee Wellington Bright, Sr. - This is a moving story of a priest, Fr. Dee Bright, and his family caught in the cross-fire of a very bloody civil war while serving in the mission field of the Gospel in their homeland of Liberia. It is a narrative of the persecution and near death experiences and hardship encountered by a family stranded in the ravages of a military crisis and the eventful Divine Intervention that brought them through. It chronicles the circumstances of their rescue as Fr. Bright was airlifted by U. S. Marines and their dramatic relocation to the United States where he now continues his ministry as an Episcopal priest.

1:00 p. m. In the Nave, the Rev. Dr. Lee Stephens will be exploring spiritual disciplines for “listening.” This will be a practical approach with resources to help keep the process going for individuals and parishes. Time will also be given for questions, answers and sharing - “Listening as a Way of Life.”

2:00 p.m. In the Nave, the Rev. Debora Jennings – A offering from the ECW Devotional Life Chairman

3:00 p.m. In the Parish Hall – Come meet Wesley and learn about the work he has been called to do as a certified registered therapy dog. “If You Call Me I Will Come.”

3:45 p.m. Marland Mansion Tour – E. W. Marland, former governor and Grace Church senior warden, was an oil baron who built his “Palace on the Prairie” – a 43,561 square foot mansion with four levels and 55 rooms. Designed by J. Duncan Forsyth, this magnificent showplace features a European-inspired interior created by Italian artisans. Elevators are available. 6:45 p.m. The Rev. Dr. Lee Stephens will present “Listening Isn't Easy, but Necessary.” In today's world of noise, distractions and stress, listening is difficult –and actually an excuse. But the problem runs deeper because we have forgotten how to listen and/or lost the desire. Yet we say prayer is crucial for the Christian life. Let's go beyond the basics to the essentials.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION – SATURDAY, APRIL 25:9:00 a.m. In the Nave - The Rev. Dr. Lee Stephens will present “Listening From

the Center.” In this session we will explore how to move from the “rim to the hub” --from the periphery of our lives to the center. The mentors for this process are many, but call us to that “something more” in the spiritual journey that requires both desire and discipline. However, if we are willing to truly listen, our lives will be transformed toward the Christ Life.

10:00 a.m. St. Crispin's Conference Center – a brief description of their building improvement project.

10:20 a.m. Tour of Grace Episcopal Church – a view and description of the many exquisite stained glass windows and unique history of the church. “Get to Know Grace.”

11:15 a.m. In the Nave - Holy Eucharist Everyone is invited to attend this church service.

NECROLOGY REPORT

Each year at the Episcopal Church Women’s Annual Conference and Bishop’s Day, we remember our sisters who have died in the past year. Please send us the names of all women in your church who have died since May 1, 2014 so that we may offer them up in prayer during our conference. It is important that we receive the names from your congregation by April 10, 2015 so that their names can be included in the program and subsequently published in the 2015-2016 Yearbook.

It has been suggested that the name by which the person was best known be listed rather than her given name, middle name, maiden name, etc. However, this is your decision.

The preferred method of receiving this information would be be to copy the format below and email to Marcia Davis at [email protected]. You may also mail the information to Marcia Davis at 143 Whitworth Avenue, Ponca City, OK 74601.

Please submit to be received by Friday, April 10, 2015
