That shall be better than light, and safer than a known way.'" As we begin a new year, the poem speaks to our situation of not knowing what lies ahead. For some of us, we are entering 2018 with some anxiety because of a health issue, a family matter, personal finances, or the political scene. Whatever has us anxious, let us place our hand in the hand of the One whose love is steadfast and whose mercy knows no bounds. Though we may not know the future, we do know who holds the future. That should give us hope as we move forward knowing God is by our side empowering us with the faith and fortitude to meet whatever challenges lie ahead. As the psalmist reminds us, God doesn't promise to protect us from life's adversities, but God does promise God's unending support and that is all that we truly need. May God's blessings be with you as we move into an unknown future knowing we go not alone. Pastoral Reflection

Minnie Haskins wrote a poem entitled, "God Knows:”

"I said to the man who stood at the Gate of the Year, 'Give me a light

that I may tread safely into the unknown,' and he replied, 'Go out into

the darkness, and put your hand into the Hand of God. That shall be

better than light, and safer than a known way.'"

As we begin a new year, the poem speaks to our situation of not knowing what lies

ahead. For some of us, we are entering 2018 with some anxiety because of a health issue, a

family matter, personal finances, or the political scene. Whatever has us anxious, let us place

our hand in the hand of the One whose love is steadfast and whose mercy knows no bounds.

Though we may not know the future, we do know who holds the future. That should give us hope

as we move forward knowing God is by our side empowering us with the faith and fortitude to

meet whatever challenges lie ahead.

As the psalmist reminds us, God doesn't promise to protect us from life's adversities,

but God does promise God's unending support and that is all that we truly need.

May God's blessings be with you as we move into an unknown future knowing we go not

alone.

Blessings on the journey,

Steve
