Cover Illustration. Our cover illustration shows one side of the Peacekeeping Monument in Ottawa

called Reconciliation. It is the work artist Jack Harman and architects Gregory Henriquez and Cornelia

Oberlander. Completed in 1992 and commemorated in 1995, it depicts three peacekeeping soldiers,

two men and a woman ‘standing on two ridges of stone which cut through the broken debris of war and

converge at a high point, which symbolizes the resolution which peacekeeping brings.’ It also includes

a quote from The Rt Hon Lester B Pearson, Prime Minister from 1963-1968 and Nobel Peace Prize

recipient (included at the end of this leaflet).

A reading from the Book of Genesis Genesis 22:1-14

After these things God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.”

He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah,

and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains that I shall show you.” So

Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with

him, and his son Isaac; he cut the wood for the burnt offering, and set out and went to the place

in the distance that God had shown him. On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place

far away. Then Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; the boy and I will

go over there; we will worship, and then we will come back to you.” Abraham took the wood of

the burnt offering and laid it on his son Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife. So

the two of them walked on together. Isaac said to his father Abraham, “Father!” And he said,

“Here I am, my son.” He said, “The fire and the wood are here, but where is the lamb for a

burnt offering?” Abraham said, “God himself will provide the lamb for a burnt offering, my

son.” So the two of them walked on together. When they came to the place that God had shown

him, Abraham built an altar there and laid the wood in order. He bound his son Isaac, and laid

him on the altar, on top of the wood. Then Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to

The Nicene Creed

Celebrant Let us confess our faith, as we say,

All We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of

all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of

the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten,

not made, of one being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For

us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy

Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our

sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried.

On the third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures; he ascended

into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in

glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the

The Prayers of the People

Leader God of love and compassion, hear our prayers as we say: Unify us in your love

filled with a spirit of wisdom and open to the guidance of the Holy Spirit always.

Due to the unfolding situation with COVID19 (Coronavirus). In compliance with a message

from Bishop Andrew Asbil, all worship services held within the parish building are cancelled

until further notice. As directed by the Ecclesiastical Province of Ontario, and with the advice of

medical experts, we will not resume worship within our church space until the end of this

summer,.

Please remember: We must all do what we can to practice physical distancing and good hand

hygiene as we progress from one Phase of opening to another. Together all of us can help

mitigate both risk and fear in our communities by exercising this due diligence.

If you are at a higher risk of illness and need assistance, please contact the church office and we

will see what can be done to help you with shopping or other errands.

Provincial decision and how it impacts on us. Many of us are happy to experience the

gradual re-opening of parts of society. Additionally, as many of us know, a decision was made

to allow religious organizations to resume worship services under specific protocols. While this

announcement will have a direct impact on certain faith communities, the Anglican Diocese of

Toronto will continue (along with our sister Dioceses) to follow the direction given us by the

Ecclesiastical Province of Ontario: for our church buildings to remain closed for worship until

September. Please note: our Food Bank ministry will continue to operate under the system we

have been using since the start of the lockdown.

We await the Diocesan guidelines, which will allow us to move forward in the safest way

possible and properly put plans in place to re-open.

I know this may difficult to hear, however, we have shown how we can get through this

difficult time – and it is by staying together, as we wait to emerge as the wonderful parish St

Jude’s has been since 1848! Fr Greg Carpenter

Guest preacher today. Today we welcome The Rev Dr Alison Falby as our preacher. Alison

is the Priest-Director in charge of All Saints Church-Community Centre in Toronto’s

Downtown East. She came to All Saints in 2018, having worked and worshipped there as a

Divinity student. She was previously the Incumbent at St Martin’s, Bay Ridges in Pickering,

and an Assistant Curate at St Nicholas, Birchcliffe and Havergal College. She was ordained

priest in 2012, and graduated with her MDiv. from Trinity College, Toronto. Prior to ordination,

Alison was an Assistant Professor of History; holding a D.Phil. from Oxford and a B.A. from

McGill University.

Daily prayer services available. Fr Greg is offering a prayer service on Tuesdays, Thursdays

and Fridays at 10:30 am streamed live on Facebook. The same service is offered at 1:00 pm in

Spanish. Additionally, our Sunday services will continue to be streamed live on Facebook at

10:30 am. All services will be linked to the home page of our website, as well as any important

announcements, for those who are not on Facebook.

Monthly service in Spanish. Our monthly service of prayers with hymns in Spanish will be

live streamed on Facebook on Saturday July 4 at 6:00 pm. We will also hold a Zoom video call

Deacon’s Pantry Food Bank. As a recognized essential service during the COVID-19 crisis,

we are working very hard to keep our Food Bank open for those in our community. We

continue to evolve in how we can best serve the community while keeping our volunteers safe.

Over the past number of weeks we have noticed a gradual increase in need. Thanks to some

generous donations, Corporation has agreed to increase the weekly shopping budget by

$100/week.

Our phone tree is working. Fr Greg would like to thank the members of the parish who have

volunteered to assist in keeping us connected through a phone tree. If you have any pastoral

needs or concerns during this time, please contact Fr Greg directly (the phone number is at the

back of this leaflet).

Supporting St Jude’s together while separated. Although we remain closed for public

worship, we are continuing our work in the community. We thank everyone is supporting the

ongoing life and work of the parish during this time of separation. Through that support we are

sharing God’s love with others and providing hope during a challenging time for everyone.

In the last week (June 16-21) we held 7 online services engaging 209 people looking for prayer
