Public Works DirectorWentzville GovernmentOrganizationAddressed The City of Wentzville is a 4th class municipality under theMissouri state statutes utilizing the council-administrator formof government. Policymaking and legislative authority arevested in the Board of Aldermen consisting of the Mayor andsix other members. The Board of Aldermen is responsible for,among other things, passing ordinances, adopting thebudget, appointments to boards and committees, and hiringthe City Administrator and City Attorney (currently a privatefirm under contract), and approving department directorappointments. The Mayor is elected to a four-year term andthe Aldermen are elected on a non-partisan basis for two-year terms.

The City of Wentzville employs 178 and provides a full rangeof municipal services including finance, human resources,economic development, police, public works, parks andrecreation, and community development. The communityreceives fire protection services through a separate fireservices district with its own governing board.

Wentzville is particularly unique in that the City enjoysfinancial health uncommon in these economic times. The Cityof Wentzville was recently graded by Moody’s with an Aa2rating – High quality and low credit risk. Revenues arederived primarily from property and sales taxes. The totalbudget is approximately $45 million for FY 2012, and thetarget reserve of 25% for the General Fund is routinelyexceeded.

The community enjoys a reputation for being a safe place tolive as evidenced by a recent resident survey which highlyrated Wentzville for safety and security. Most crime incidentsare property-related. The police department currentlyemploys 57 commissioned officers.

Parks and recreation facilities are a priority for Wentzvilleresidents. The voters approved a ? cent sales tax in 2010dedicated to the development of three major additions to theparks system. The $20 million “Project Parks” program willbring the new facilities online by 2014.

Recently, ground was broken on a 500,000 square footexpansion of the General Motors facility to begin assembly ofa redesigned Colorado pickup. The total GM employment inWentzville will be about 3000 by 2014.

Other major employers in the immediate area include CenturyLink Telephone, R.K. Stratman (a major contractor to HarleyDavidson), and St. Joseph Health Center.
