V.P. of Membership: We had no new members join Classic Glass during the month of September. We are still a 227 member Club and that is a number to be proud of. The end of the year is fast approaching and it's that time to start considering the "change of the guard". Posted below is the list of nominees so far for the 2008 year. Remember, each office must have at minimum 2 candidates to run. Each candidate must also have been a member of Classic Glass for at least 6 months prior to the beginning of the new term and have your dues paid for the 2008 calendar year by the adjournment of the November 2007 general membership meeting. Nominations from the floor will be taken during the October and November (if needed) general membership meetings and formally accepted by the nominee and must be seconded until we have the two candidates. Responsibilities for each position are in the By-Laws on the website at cgcorvetteclub.com. Minutes from September 11, 2007 Monthly Meeting Joe Owens, President Joe called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone to the Classic Glass September meeting. Members and guests paused in a moment of silence to remember those who perished in the tragedy of September 11th and those who have perished since to keep America free. Corvettes at Carlisle: this was a hot and stormy show. GM Plant Manager Will Cooksey donated the passenger rear fender to the Chip Miller auction after participating in the Burnout event. Labor Day Event at the NCM: twenty-three members attended this event. The museum recognized not only Bill Gohr’s fifteenth anniversary as an NCM member but also Vicki and George’s ten-year anniversary as NCM members. Dottie’s brick has been placed beside Bill’s brick. Roman’s brick has been placed between the clubs’ and Randy and Mildred’s brick. In addition, Fred was recognized as master ambassador. Joe encouraged members to visit the NCM and tour the plant. It is always a great trip. Wine Cruise: Joe and Cindy had to depart this event early; Jamie McSwain agreed to replace Joe and Cindy as event manager. Participants panned for gold in Dahlonega, dined at Smith House after circling the square in Dahlonega a couple of times the group proceeded onto the Habersham Wineries for a tour. It was a great time. Joe and Cindy would like to schedule an additional trip to the winery at a later date. Joe requested members to keep the following individuals in their prayers: Becky Keith has had two plates in her ankle after a motorcycle accident. However, Becky did attend this meeting tonight and thanked members for the flowers that the club sent. Valda Briant whom had back surgery two weeks ago is doing well. Spouse Jerry thanked everyone for their calls and informed the group that she is doing very well and that she has one more procedure scheduled. Bob White whom is now in the care of Hospice. Nominations Committee: Joe would like to have a full ballot by the November meeting for the two thousand eight elections for officers and the board of directors. Joe reminded the group that the individuals nominated must meet the following requirements in order to be nominated and elected to hold an office:

Member must be in good standing for at least six months, must pay renewal by end of the November General meeting and must accept the nomination and have a second in the October or November General Meeting. In order for a member to vote for a nominee at the Holiday Party the member must have paid their renewal before or at the Holiday Party meeting. Joe requested members to think about nominees and this will be discussed later in this meeting. Sherry Yon, Secretary: requested a motion to accept the minutes from the August meeting that were published in the newsletter. A motion was made, seconded and accepted by the club. Terri Martell, Treasurer: provided the following summary of the Treasurer’s report and asked for a motion to accept the report as given. A motion was made, seconded and passed by the club. Below is the financial summary report: August 2007 Summary Beginning Balance: $ 10,902.66 Receipts: 11,898.50 Disbursements: (6,203.58) Ending Balance: 16,597.58* * Includes $2,000.00 Rainy-Day Fund. Hillary Dukas, Vice President of Membership: thanked everyone for his/her honesty and integrity tonight while signing in and paying their one-dollar; the honor system works well. 76 members and 4 guests were in attendance tonight. The guests were introduced to the members including an active duty soldier. Hillary requested each guest stand and provides members with information about themselves and their cars. She introduced 4 new members in attendance tonight presenting them with their name badges, window decals, pins and copies of the CGCC by laws. She thanked them for joining our club and encouraged them to participate in upcoming events.

Dan Casey was the lucky seventy-six dollar winner of tonight’s drawing. In addition to the cash drawing three lucky people Becky Keith, Chris Reed and Winston Whitlock each went home with SuperVette Saturday tee shirts. Cindy Owens, Vice President of Activities: Cindy thanked everyone that participated in the Wine Cruise; fifty-two people signed up and forty-two actually participated. Cindy asked Ray Bell provide the group with information on the Labor Day event. Ray stated this was his first trip to the NCM and the first time he has seen a convertible Z06. The visit to the NCM was a great trip and a good time he recommends that everyone should visit the museum at least once. Mountain City Show and Drag in Chattanooga September 16th, participants will be leaving the Big Lots on Glade Road at 8:00 a.m. arriving at the drag strip around 9:00. Drag races will begin at 12:00 p.m. This year Cindy would like to win the award given to the club with the largest number of members participating. Last year Classic Glass lost to the River City Club by two cars. She encouraged everyone to participate in this event. Watson Mill Covered Bridge Cruise with Bill and Harriette Majoros as the event managers Saturday, September 22nd. Harriette provided the following information for this upcoming event; this will be a nice cruise with one stop. Participants have expressed a desire in having lunch at the local restaurant in lieu of the previously discussed picnic lunch. Harriette reminded participants that she and Bill would be providing dessert. Fliers with additional details have been provided on each table. In addition to the covered bridge cruise, Harriette reminded the group of two additional events. October 13th is the Autumn Leaves and Corn Maize event with a stop at Poole’s Bar-B-Q to visit the clubs little piggy; then onto Cagle’s Corn Maize. Harriette advised participants to wear comfortable shoes for walking over the uneven turf. November 3rd and 4th the Tail of the Dragon/Splash Party; this event will begin by cruising up to Deal’s Gap for lunch. At the end of the dragon a quick rest break then onto the Holiday Inn Express in Hiawassee. After dinner the group will reassemble at the indoor heated pool for a Hawaiian theme party. Harriette encouraged members to sign up for these events on CGCC’s web site. Life is a Vette at the Beach weekend car show in Pensacola is September 28th and 29th with Miracle

Strip Corvette Club. Joe and Cindy are the event managers and have planned on leaving for Pensacola around three o’clock on Friday afternoon but if at all possible would like to leave around two o’clock instead from the Wendy’s Restaurant on Spring Road. Terry and Carol Mills have invited CGCC members to attend a party at their home on Friday night. The show is scheduled for Saturday and the Miracle Strip Club will be hosting a party as well. Twenty-four people have signed up for this event. Acworth Cruise-In downtown Acworth on September 29th; Petite Le Mans October 4th – 6th; two super pass tickets with parking passes have been donated to Classic Glass; later this evening Joe will be auctioning these tickets. Hillary informed the group that she has confirmed with Road Atlanta that tickets have been allocated to Johnny O’Connell’s guesthouse for purchase. When you purchase tickets indicate you want the proceeds to go to Johnny’s. Access to the corvette corral is possible with these tickets as well. Chaz Cone reminded the group that by indicating Johnny’s Guesthouse you are supporting the Alzheimer’s foundation and the Guest House, which is a senior day care facility in Gainesville. Fred reminded everyone this is a tax-deductible donation. Harrison High School Homecoming October 5th; Doug Reed provided the following information on this event. Classic Glass members participate in this event every year; however this year the date conflicts with Petite Le Mans, therefore Doug will be unable to coordinate this event. Fifteen convertibles are required; currently only six members have signed up for this event which is actually a two-part event, first the parade, then dinner. Participants will then return to the stadium to escort the queen and her court around the field. In light of the fact that Doug has the commitment to Petite Le Mans, Cindy will send an e-mail to members requesting an event manager and volunteers as well for this event. Medieval Times October 14th with Joe and Cindy; this will be a great time. Participants are required to pay for this event no later than September 28th. Currently fourteen people have signed up for this event. Less than fifteen will require canceling this event. Corvettes Against Breast Cancer: October 20th with Bridget Stephens as the event manager. At the request of Cindy, Bridget provided information on this event. This year registration has been scheduled a little later than in years past at 8:00 a.m. Pre-

Volume XVI Issue 10 October, 2006

registration is available on line for this event. However, Bridget has been advised that this year participants can make a twenty-five dollar donation to the breast cancer foundation in exchange for three laps around the Atlanta Motor Speedway, which is two less laps than in years past. Bridget reminded the group this event is for a good cause and a good time. Don Luther reminded the group that at the show at Summit Racing in McDonough which is immediately following the laps at Atlanta Motor Speedway that Pace Setters would be raffling the C6, which they sold, tickets for at SVS. In addition, there will be door prizes. Additional information will be posted onto CGCCs’ web site later this week. Bridget encouraged participants to register early if possible. Marietta’s Street Festival September 15th entry for the car show is twenty-five dollars. Madison Car Show September 16th this is about one to one and half hours drive; a few CGCC members are signed up to attend this event. Don Luther reminded the group of upcoming events including The Vettes in the Village event at San Destin October 27th sponsored by Play Ground and Capital City clubs. This is a great show, with about two hundred participants. Toys for Tots campaign hosted by Peach State Posse December 1, the entry fee is one unwrapped toy. Don also suggested to members planning to visit the Tail of the Dragon to check the web site the tail is scheduled to be closed the weekend of September 15th – 17th. Cindy reminded the group to check the events calendar on the website. Classic Glass has events scheduled for every weekend through November. Joe concurred the club is quiet busy with day cruises over the next few weeks. Fred Hale NCM Ambassador: thanked everyone that purchased raffle tickets for the corvette given away Labor Day Weekend at the NCM. In addition to the NCM recognizing him as a Master Ambassador, Glenda was also recognized as co-ambassador. 700 people attended the anniversary event at the NCM Labor Day. While there, Bill Gohr became a life member.

Fred reminded the group what a great time there is to be had in Bowling Green particularly driving the back roads in a corvette. The NCM has a new raffle scheduled for April. Once again, Fred reminded the group that the museum is supported entirely by its members and visitors. Anyone interested in becoming a member can obtain an application from Fred or log onto the museum’s web site. Fred encouraged everyone to visit and join the museum. Joe concurred it is a great time. Chris Siddall, CGCC Store: encouraged members and guest to visit the store, which has lots of great merchandise with CGCC’s logo including shirts, hats, and jackets. Chris can order anything in any color. Stop by and make a purchase. Bridget Stephens, Webmaster: Members garage has been updated; however a few photos are still missing. Bridget encouraged members that have photos missing to please provide these to her. She would like for the members garage to be at one hundred percent by year-end. Non-members have temporarily shut down the Forum due to unauthorized usage. Once a more secure solution has been put into place the forum will be re-established. Wrap Up / New Business: New Business: Joe auctioned a pair of Petite Le Mans

four-day super passes including parking, access to the Corvette Corral and the paddock area donated to Classic Glass; the face value on this package is two hundred ten dollars. Proceeds from the purchase will be included in the receipts from SuperVette Saturday for the charities that CGCC supports. After bidding between Fred, Glenda, Don Luther and Al Jones, Al emerged as the winner purchasing the passes at face value. Joe asked the group if anyone knows the owner of the corvette with the license plate One Fun Toy. This is the winning prestige license plate from SuperVette Saturday. No one in attendance recognized the license plate; therefore Harriette suggested placing the information in the next newsletter. Joe concurred this is a good idea. Perhaps the owner will come forward to claim their trophy. Additional new business: Joe requested nominations from the group for the 2008 officers and board of directors. In addition to the live nominations tonight it is also possible for members to make a nomination via a silent ballot. The ballot would be given to Hillary; she will then contact the nominee requesting

confirmation that the individual is willing to accept the nomination and must accept at the next general meeting. Joe requested members to think about nominees for each office including the store. In addition, it is also possible to e-mail nominations to Hillary. The following members have been nominated,

Corvette Joke A man goes out and buys a new Vette

convertible. One night he takes it out for a spin, and

stops at a red light. An old man pulls up next to him riding a moped

The old man looks over the Vette and says, "What kind of car ya got there, sonny?"

The man replies, "It's a 2000 Corvette, the best sports car in the USA; it cost me over $50,000 "

"That's a lot of money" says the old man. Why do they cost so much?" The man answers, "Because they can go 170

miles an hour!" The old man pokes his head in the window

and looks around. Leaning back on his moped, the old man says, "That's a pretty nice car all right!" Just then the light changes, so the guy decides to show the old man what the car can do. He floors it, and in a few seconds the speedO reads 120 MPH

Suddenly he notices a dot in his rear view mirror that seems to be catching up to him. Afraid it might be a cop, he slows down to 65 and suddenly whhhoooosshh! Something whips by him going much faster!

"What on earth could be going faster than this Vette?" the man asks himself. Then, ahead of him, he sees a dot coming towards him Whhoooosshh! It goes by again, heading the opposite direction! And it sorta looked like the old man on the moped! "Couldn't be," thinks the guy "How could a moped outrun a Vette?" Then again he sees a dot in his rear view mirror! Whhooosshh - Blam! It plows into the back of the Vette! The man jumps out. It IS the old man!

Of course, the moped and the old man are in a world of hurt. The guy runs up to the old man and cries, "You're hurt bad! Is there anything I can do for you?"

The old man groans and replies, "Yes, could you please unhook my suspenders from your side mirror?"

NCM Master Ambassador Fred Hale says there is so much going on at the museum so check out the web site:

www.corvettemuseum.com (Fred the club is so proud of your being a master ambassador with your help mate Glenda) Letter from the editor:

The other evening while driving home from dinner I was alarmed to see the ABS, Selective Handling and Traction Control had illuminated on Harriette’s C-5. The next morning I called around to a few shops and was shocked by what they estimated the cost to be.Up to 2 grand!! Then I remembered Joe Owens talking about codes while attending a tech day held at Robert Dukas’ shop earlier this year. Poking around the Internet I found AutoZone has a subscription service to the Corvette Manuals on Alldata DIY. (Do it yourself) So I ran the codes and it pointed to a fault in the ABS module. Sure enough after further diagnosis it pointed to of all things low fluid. I checked it filled it and the lights extinguished and everything works fine.

I then realized when I have had problems with my Chevy Van or the Dodge Intrepid I diagnosed it or asked questions or looked around under the hood. Now that we own two of these, my attitude was they are too sophisticated for that. How untrue! We have members who have worked on all of the models and maintain them with the care and expertise of MR. Goodwrench. You only have to ask around. Bill Majoros
