At this time of year I both relish in my family’s unique holiday traditions and invent new ways to celebrate. I give experiences. Some will grow into traditions, and some will live on only as memories. This year my granddaughter and I are prepar-ing a poem in two voices to perform at Christmas. I think creatively about how to spend this precious time with those I adore, and I encourage you to do the same. Experiment and enjoy! Children should love this time of year. They should tingle with anticipation and partake in the family’s planning. Most children love to bake, wrap, give and re-ceive. Most children want to help in a hundred ways. I encourage you to include your children in your holiday preparations and have fun while you work together. Over the next few weeks, you will probably ask your children to rise to the occa-sions. With politeness and patience, they will be expected to greet relatives, give thanks and show table manners. It is not too much to ask of them. In fact, it is pre-cisely what you should expect. The holidays present many opportunities to teach children how to be gracious and courteous. I hope you will seize the opportunities. I wish you a memorable and magnificent holiday season.
