Q2what is colour wheel?

Answer-The Color WheelThe color wheel or circle is the basic tool for combining colors. The first circular color diagram was designed by Sir Isaac Newton in 1666.

The color wheel is designed so that virtually any colors you pick from it will look good together. Over the years, many variations of the basic design have been made, but the most common version is a wheel of 12 colors based on the RYB (or artistic) color model.

Traditionally, there are a number of color combinations that are considered especially pleasing. These are called color harmonies or color chords and they consist of two or more colors with a fixed relation in the color wheel.

Q3- write short notes – 1.Complementary colour-Colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel are considered to be complementary colors (example: red and green).

2. Analogous colour-Analogous color schemes use colors that are next to each other on the color wheel. They usually match well and create serene and comfortable designs.

Analogous color schemes are often found in nature and are harmonious and pleasing to the eye.

3 Hue-Hue is one of the main properties (called color appearance parameters) of a color, defined as THE IDENTITY OF THE COLOR that are described as red, green, blue, and yellow".

PR 203 IIND TEST Q1-Define single colour offset machine units diagram only.

Q-2 Define flexography?

Answer-Flexography is a modern version of letterpress printing. This traditional method of printing can be used on almost any type of substrate, including corrugated cardboard, cellophane, plastic, label stock, fabric and metallic film. Flexography uses quick-drying, semi-liquid inks. In this new age of digital printing, flexography holds its own in the areas of large orders, particularly of packaging Flexographic printing uses flexible photopolymer printing plates wrapped around rotating cylinders on a web press. The inked plates have a slightly raised image and rotate at high speeds to transfer. products and labeling. the image to the substrate. Flexography inks can print on many types of absorbent and non-absorbent materials. Flexography is well-suited to print continuous patterns, such as for gift wrap and wallpaper .

Q3- writeshort notes on following- 1. litho stone 2 Gravure process Answer-1.Litho stone- The printing is from a stone (lithographic limestone) or a metal plate with a smooth surface. It was invented in 1796 by German author and actor Alois Senefelder as a cheap method of publishing theatrical works. Lithography can be used to print text or artwork onto paper or other suitable material. The stone is processed using gum arabic, sometimes with a very small amount of nitric acid added. The purpose of the gum is to chemically separate the image and the non-image areas, so that the greasy image areas become water repellent or ‘hydrophobic’ and the non-image areas become water receptive or ‘hydrophilic’, so that when printed, only the image areas receive the ink and print. This chemical change happens in the very top layer of the and creates the ‘gum adsorb layer’ which is less then 1mm thick. Nitric acid is sometimes added to the gum in order to stop the grease in the stone from spreading. When nitric is used in the gum it referred to as an ‘etch’. It is usually necessary to ‘etch’ the stone twice. The first etch is carefully applied to the stone with either a clean paintbrush or sponge. Once the whole stone is covered with gum, a clean sponge and then a clean rag are used to buff the gum down to a thin,

Page 5: The Color WheelThe colorhte.rajasthan.gov.in/dept/dte/board_of_technical_education,_rajasthan/... · The printing is from a stone (lithographic limestone) or a metal plate with a

even layer. Heat is then applied to dry the gum. The stone should then be covered and, importantly, left overnight to allow time for the gum to chemically change the stone and establish the image within the stone.

2.Gravure printing—also know as rotogravure printing—is primarily a long-run, high-speed, high-quality printing method. Like engraving, gravure is a form of intaglio printing that produces fine, detailed images. It can be used for CMYK printing where each color of ink is applied by its own cylinder and with drying steps in between.

. In gravure printing, an image is acid-etched on the surface of a metal cylinder—one cylinder for each color—in a pattern of cells. The cells are recessed into the cylinder, unlike relief printing or letterpress where the printing image is raised or like offset printing, in which the image is level with the plate.

The cylinder is etched with cells of different depths. These cells hold the ink that is transferred to the substrate. The dimensions of the cells must be precise because the deeper cells produce more intensive color than shallow cells.

The cells are filled with ink, and the non-printing portions of the plate or cylinder are wiped or scraped free of ink. Then paper or another substrate is pressed against the inked cylinder on a rotary press, and the image is transferred directly to the paper, unlike in offset printing, which uses an interim cylinder.

The engraved cylinder sits partially immersed in the ink fountain, where it picks up ink to fill its recessed cells on each rotation of the press.

Q3. Write a short note?

A. Upright & Landscape‐ The pages in which composing have been done along the longer edge are called oblong or landscape pages. The shorter edge of the page form the depth and the longer edge the width of the page. In upright pages , composing is done along the shorter edge of the pages as is usually found in the text books and magazines. The shorter edge forms the width and the longer edge the depth of the pages.

B. Gutter & Gripper Margin‐ The distance between fore‐edges of any two pair of page lying on an imposing stone or in a printed sheet is called “Gutter Margin”. Extra Margin of 1‐2Em left intentionally at gripper side of the printed sheet. The extra margin will be used by machine gripper to hold the sheet for printing called gripper margin.

Q1. What is sterio metal and its composition?

Answer‐  In printing, a stereotype, also known as a  simply a stereo, was originally a "solid plate of type metal,  cast  from a  plaster mould  (called  a flong)  taken  from  the  surface of a forme of type used for printing instead of the original.

The composition of  individual cast metal types into  lines with leading and furniture,  tightly locked into a chase, was labor‐intensive and costly. Cumulative, this full setup for printing a single page was called a forme. The printer would incur further expense through loss of the type  for  other  uses while  held  in  formes. However,  once  the  flong  and  stereotype were created, the individual type, furniture, leading and chasing could be disassembled, and used for another project.
