MISSION GST – TO EDUCATE ALL
The Tirupati Commissionerate covers three districts of Chittoor, Kurnool and Ananthapur in
Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh. This region has mostly rural populace with a distribution of
manufacturing industries such as Cement, Iron & Steel, Electrical equipments, etc., and Services such
as GTA, Works Contract Service, Manpower recruitment Agency, Security Services, Site preparation
& clearance, etc., spread throughout the region. During 2015-16, the total net revenue collected
was Rs.1344 crores. Upto November 2016, the total net revenue collected is Rs. 1216 crores and the
Commissionerate is poised to exceed the revenue target.
As part of the outreach programme to familiarise the concept of GST among the present assesses
and traders, the Jurisdictional Assistant Commssioners and Range Officers are continually meeting
the individual assesses and also conducting meetings, where GST pamphlets prepared by the
Tirupati Commissionerate containing in a nutshell the salient features of the GST law, are
distributed.
Furthermore, during January 2017, several programmes to educate the assesses on the steps to be
taken towards migration/ registration on the GSTN are to be conducted at Tirupati, Ananthapur and
Kurnool locations.
To take the outreach programme further and to give the widest possible coverage to GST to all
sections of the society, especially the common public who may not be our assesses but are certain to
bear the effects of GST, it was decided to establish a GST stall at the pavilion of the 104th Indian
Science Congress held at Tirupati from 3rd to 7th January 2017 and inaugurated by our Hon’ble
Prime Minister. Through this programme, it was decided to bring about an awareness among the
common people too about the advantages of GST over the present taxation at a minimal cost. The
GST stall was manned by 5 officers to attend to and answer the queries of the visitors. Posters
explaining the salient features of GST were displayed prominently at the stall and the GST pamphlets
were distributed to the visitors. A power point presentation on GST prepared by the
Commissionerate was also continually screened for the visitors.
The stall attracted an overwhelmingly huge number of visitors including school/college students,
delegates, manufacturers/service providers, professionals, etc., who posed several questions on GST
which were effectively handled by our officers.
A hot air balloon in tri-colour prominently bearing the logo of CBEC, GST , Make in India and Swatch
Bharath was hoisted . The initiative was very well received and attracted great attention of all
visitors to the Congress as well as residents in the neighbourhood.
