Alifelong dancer, Elida was a soloist for the Miami Ballet Company for 7 years and the Fredrick Bratcher and Co. for 10 years. Fashion DesignWednesday 2:45-3:45 Grades 3 - 612 Weeks (Sept. 7 - Nov. 16)Knowledge CenterInstructor: Nicole SharpFee: $295This course is designed to teach students who are interested in fashion design how a design is developed. It will also teach sewing skills, pattern making and illustrations sketching. Students will than learn how to transfer the pattern onto fabric and how to sew. Additionally, students will get a lesson on Fashion Illustration drawing. We will use pencils, colored pencils and experience with watercolor pencils. Besides learning how to draw different poses, students will learn how to draw faces, hair and make-up. This course is taught by Nicole Sharp. A German fashion/costume designer with a degree from FIDM in Los Angeles, CA.

GolfWednesday 2:45-3:45 Grades 1 - 512 Weeks (Sept. 7 - Nov. 16)Pick Up is in front of the Dining HallInstructor: Total Golf AdventuresFee: $300This class advances students through 5 levels that introduce the game of golf, teach swing along with rules. All equipment provided, but please send a water bottle. PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO THE WEATHER.

Guitar EnsembleWednesday2:45-3:45 Grades 3 - 612 Weeks (Sept. 7 - Nov. 16)HS Band RoomInstructor: Juan PenaFee: $260The Ensemble will include all performance levels (Beginners, Intermediate, and Advanced). In this hour, we will have the opportunity to perform for other players and we will discuss technical aspects of the instrument, sight-reading techniques, and performance practices. This will be an interactive class that will cater to student enthusiasm. All types of musical styles will be discussed (Classical, Jazz, Flamenco, Bluegrass, Country, Alternative & Rock) with demonstration of inter-related themes. Please bring a guitar with pics.

Elementary Judo/KickboxingThursday3:30-4:30 Grades K - 512 Weeks (Sept. 8 - Nov. 17) NOON DISMISSAL on 10/13 CLASS FROM 12-1 LS Room D2-6 (LS Strings Room)Instructor: Sharon LeachFee: $250 Judo is a Japanese martial art that focuses on throws and grappling (wrestling) techniques.  We will learn Japanese command words, history and competition of the sport.  The students will compete in a mock tournament designed to showcase their newly acquired skills.  This martial art will promote self-confidence and self-discipline. A class that will feature Cardio kickboxing as well as the grappling techniques and take downs of judo.  Students will enjoy several components of Judo, Tae Kwon Do and Tang Soo Do. Uniforms are required.

Our LS Guidance Counselor, Nancie Byrnes, is also a fully certified Yoga instructor for both adults and children. In this coursefor kids, each interactive class will include stories, meditations, and games/activities rooted in the teachings of yoga. Every classwill be themed on positive thinking,developing strong self-esteem, and finding healthy ways to deal with stress and anxiety. When children learn techniques for self-health, relaxation, and inner fulfillment, theycan navigate life's challenges with a little more ease. Yoga at an early age encourages self-esteem and body awareness with a physical activity that’s noncompetitive.Please wear shorts/t-shirt or other appropriate work-out clothing. No shoes. Bring a mat if you have it, if not, we have plenty.
