“Human Ecology of Island Resiliency and

Sustainability” (HEIRS)

The 7th National Conference in Human Ecology and the Conference in Human Ecology of Island Resiliency with the theme “Human Ecology of

Island Resiliency and Sustainability” will be held at the UP Open University Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines on April 10-11, 2014.

The Conference is a collaborative attempt to identify development issues and challenges in island ecosystems with the end view of ensuring resiliency and sustainability. Employing the integrative human ecological perspectives, discussions and presentations shall revolve around the interactions of resources, population, technology, institutions and governance and the implications of these interactions on island resiliency and sustainability.

The Human Ecology Institute of the Philippines and the College of Human Ecology, University of the Philippines Los Banos, will spearhead the event in collaboration with the UPLB CHE Alumni Association. Organizations, institutions, and programs on sustainability, human ecology, ecosystem-based research and development, island ecosystems, grassroots participation, social entrepreneurship, and corporate social responsibility, will be invited.

The Conference will be a great opportunity for professionals and practitioners from the Asia-Pacific region and other parts of the world to share initiatives, hear issues, and learn first-hand solutions. It will also serve as a venue for the declaration of unity and solidarity to strengthen cooperation among stakeholders in island resiliency and sustainability.
