Invocation May each of us assembled here today enjoy the many offerings of Rotary.

May we abide by the rules we have established - those of trust, fellowship and ethics.

May we place Service above Self, in our daily endeavors.

May we always test ourselves and our efforts to be sure they are the truth, good for all concerned, of benefit to man-kind, and provide peace and under-standing.

Amen

Club Breakfast Calendar

Back to Normal with Interact and Haiti By Guest Editor Dave Powell

The election is over and the pre-meeting conversa-tions returned to more nor-mal topics. President Carl rang the bell promptly at 7:58 and had Wayne Sal-ladé give the invocation. Carl led the pledge and Bob Wilson led us in sing-

ing God Bless America. After eating breakfast, the morning was given a good start by Sergeant Don Helt. He was a bit rushed because of an impending long program but we introduced guests Don Voigt and Karol Wyckoff, plus special guests from the Port Charlotte Interact Club. Advisor Kimberly Baermann and members, Maria Cepeda, Savannah Baermann and Nina Smarjesse were also introduced. Happy dollars came next with donations by José, PJ, Meera, Carol W., Selva, Don V., Mark, Tom, Mike C. Bob M., Mike M., Wayne, Sherry and Rick. Birthdays cele-brated were for Phoebe, Jeremy, Suzanne and Tyler; Bob McD. noted the anniversary of the Vietnam memorial in Washington. Bob W. led us in the happy song. Sergeant Don gave us a brief history lesson taken from PJ’s book and the value of studying history. Steve V. won the 50/50 and donated it to the Drew Lisby Foundation. This morning’s program was presented by Rick Hayman. He started with a groaner Ser-vice above Shelf, then really got into telling us about the Interact program. He talked about the Object of Rotary and what is Interact. To-day’s program featured the Port Charlotte High School Club. President Nina Smarjesse talked about her experiences attending S4TL this past summer. She showed pictures of her teammates and told us she learned it is okay to be yourself and to get to know people before you form an opin-ion, a valu-able lesson for all of us.

Rick then talked about a possible water project that could be done by our club and In-teract. He showed some interesting photos from his trip to Haiti showing people lined up with buckets to get water from the only source in town. They would then carry the buckets back to their homes for the family to use. The source of the water would never measure up to our sanitary standards. He also talked about the many children in the world who never get a chance to get a pub-lic education. To demonstrate he showed award winning videos by other Interact Clubs. When the meeting ended we all had the opportunity to talk with the students and their faculty advisor.

Nancy Lisby shows the funds donated to The Drew Lisby Foundation at last Wednesday’s Quiz.

THE

FOUR-WAY TEST

Of things we

think, say or do First, Is it the TRUTH?

Second, Is it FAIR to all concerned?

Third, Will it build GOODWILL & BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

Fourth, Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

November message from Foundation Trustee Chair Wilfrid J. Wilkinson

As the clock ticks down to 1 July, we are in the final stages of preparing for the full rollout of the Future Vision Plan. Our goal is simple: enabling our Foundation to con-tinue Doing Good in the World, and ensuring that we make the best use of every dollar, euro, yen, and peso

that we have. In everything we do in Rotary, we strive for the greatest impact. This means focusing on sus-tainability – on projects whose effects will go on for years, and on work that will continue to change lives even after Rotarians’ involvement has ended. When polio is eradicated, every child who will ever be born will benefit, long after the last drop of vaccine has been put into a child’s mouth. PolioPlus is, of course, a unique Rotary program – but it is time to bring that kind of long-term per-spective to all our service. Part of our goal in Future Vision is making sure that we focus on the long view in everything we do. Accordingly, part of that mindset is making sure that we make it a priority to support The Rotary Foundation and its Annual Fund. Our goal is Every Rotarian, Every Year: for every Rotarian to give a gift each year to the Annual Fund, with an average donation of US$100. Meeting that goal would mean $120 million per year for Rotary service. It would also mean an organization in which every single member is supporting, and is invested in, the Foundation’s success – making The Rotary Foundation truly Our Foundation.
