Copperfield Homeowners Association Board of DirectorsThe Copperfield Homeowners Association (CHA) is managed by a Board of Directors consisting of five elected volunteers. Each Board member is elected to a two-year term. On even years (e.g. 2018) two members are elected, and on odd years (e.g. 2019) three members are elected. LeAnn Swanson is the General Manager for Copperfield.

This year Jeremy Rydberg and Greg Guilford were up for re-election; both current board members decided to run for re-election. Any resident in good standing and over the age of 18 was able to nominate him or herself for election by submitting a letter/resume describing their qualifications and why they would like to be involved. Report street light outages directly to LG&E by phone 505-589-1444 or online, https://lge-ku.com/outages.

AT&T UpdatePer AT&T, crews will be in the neighborhood until early September. After the installation of the cables is completed AT&T crews will come back to connect and test each fiber optic cable. They anticipate that fiber optic service will be available by late November. Thanks to our neighbor, Pat Dour, who has been instrumental in getting this service to our neighborhood! We are one of the first neighborhoods in Louisville to have these services available.

Newsletter Updates As mentioned in the last newsletter, for the remainder of 2018 we will publish the newsletter on a bi-monthly basis. After the September publication we will have one remaining newsletter (November) in the current format. It is very likely that we will go back to a printed/delivered copy of the monthly newsletters. The CHA is in the process of communicating with newsletter providers. More details will be provided once the CHA has gained more information. If you are aware of a local company that can produce, print and mail newsletters please email [email protected].

Yard Work ReminderPlease make sure you are not blowing or sweeping your grass clippings into the street. Take a moment to keep our streets clear of yard debris, which will help us keep our storm drains clear.

Safety Reminders to Keep Our Streets SafePlease remember that our neighborhood is full of children. Please drive with caution, obey the speed limit and remember that passing a stopped school bus is illegal. Neighbors are encouraged to hold each other accountable.

In the past, we have tried posting reminders on Nextdoor and have employed off-duty police officers to monitor the neighborhood. The issues seem to get resolved, but then reappear. If you witness a violation, please feel free to snap a photo of the violator’s license plate. These can be reported to authorities who can help us solve this dangerous issue.

Waste Management provides all garbage services for Copperfield residents. Any fee associated with garbage removal is included in your annual assessments. Residents can choose to add yard waste removal and/or recycling to your services for a reduced, contracted rate. If you choose to add these services, or already have these services, please make sure you are billed at the discounted rate. Recycling should be provided $2.04/month and yard waste removal is provided at $3.06/month. You will be billed on a quarterly basis for these additional services.

You can call Waste Management with questions, 866-237-7019.

Congrats to the Copperfield Sharks Swim Team for another successful season!

Registration for next seasonbegins in April 2019.

The neighborhood began celebrating the 4th of July with a late night swim, Pizza by the Pool and bike decorating party on July 3rd. Thanks to the CHA for the pizza and to Tammy and Jeff Kessler for providing the bike decorating supplies.

Thanks to Danielle Rydberg and Leah Guilford for hosting the 4th of July Neighborhood Party. Their hard work in planning and executing the event were very much appreciated.

The kids had tons of fun in the parade (thanks to the Eastwood Fire Department) and everyone got to enjoy many of the pool games! Luckily, we had great weather, too. We look forward to next year’s celebration already!

Copperfield’s Teen NightThanks to all who attended. Thanks to Greg and Stacey Guilford who helped host Teen Night at the Pool. This event was open to our teen neighbors. They enjoyed food, games and a glow party. The CHA appreciates the neighbors who attended and hope events like these continue to grow.

Please Donate

Bring your clean, gently used and new shoes (sneakers, flip flops, heels, dress shoes, sandals, slides, cleats, and dance shoes) to the Clubhouse September 9-30. Rayanne Peplinski (resident) is conducting a shoe drive service learning project and fundraiser with her Middletown Elementary Cheerleaders. Donated shoes will then be redistributed throughout the Funds2Org network of micro-enterprise partners to create, maintain and grow a small business to feed, clothe and house their families.

The goal is 5000 pairs of shoes by Halloween! Say YES to donating your extra shoes to give them a second chance and to make a difference in people’s lives around the world with a hand up, not a hand out.

*We ask that you keep grass cutting shoes or shoes with excessive wear/damage out of collection box.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT – SHAWN WILKIEWell, the Copperfield pool season has officially come to a close. I hope everyone was able to enjoy themselves on the deck or in the water at some point during the summer, and I’d like to thank Brian Schmidt publicly for the great job he does managing the lifeguards, gate guard, equipment and facilities. Brian takes this responsibility very seriously, and we all benefit from the results of his hard work and attention to detail. The next time you see Brian around the neighborhood, I hope you’ll take the time to say ‘thank you’ as well.

Now that it will no longer interrupt the use of the pool, we’ll be beginning the process of remodeling the clubhouse. As the pool itself gets closed for the off season, we will also be preparing the clubhouse by removing all the furniture, appliances, equipment and other items that are normally stored there. The Board is currently working with our contractor to get a more detailed project plan together, and as soon as it’s available we will publish it, both here in the newsletter and on Nextdoor. I hope you’re as excited as I am about the next step in maintaining and improving the facilities for the neighborhood, and you can rest assured that we’ll plan a great neighborhood-wide event for the grand re-opening. If at any point during the construction you have any questions about what’s going on, please don’t hesitate to send an email to [email protected], and we’ll be happy to respond.

In the meantime, I hope you’ve been enjoying the newly resurfaced tennis courts! Maybe you’ve even decided to try pickle ball, now that the courts include lines for that as well. I played for the first time this summer and enjoyed it immensely. The game retains many of the aspects of tennis that I enjoy most, but the smaller court area and different equipment means significantly less running. It doesn’t take long at all to learn the game, and my impression is that it’s accessible to people of various levels of ability and experience. The cost of the paddles and balls aren’t overwhelming either—our family got a low-end set for less than $20. If you haven’t tried it yet, I encourage you to do so. You might discover a new favorite sport!

As always, if there are ideas you have for other amenities you’d like to see in the neighborhood I hope you’ll share them with the Board. While we can’t necessarily fulfill every request, we’ll certainly do our best to explore and consider every reasonable suggestion. Just speak with one of the Board members or send a quick note to the hotline’s email. Together, we all make Copperfield a great place to live.

Your neighbor, Shawn

Greg Guilford

Greg Guilford is a Louisville native and has lived in Copperfield for almost 20 years with his wife, Stacey, and two kids. The entire family is very active with the swim team and various social activities in the neighborhood.

As an experienced financial professional, currently CFO of a local roofing company, and sitting Copperfield Treasurer, Greg enjoys using his background to ensure Copperfield remains a great place to live and raise a family.

The Board has many ideas and initiatives to make sure the neighborhood continues to keep pace and remain a great place to live. I ask for your vote in the upcoming election and am excited to continue working for you and the neighborhood.

Jeremy Rydberg

I’m Jeremy Rydberg and I would like to earn your vote for the Copperfield HOA. I am currently on the board as the maintenance manager and if elected will retain that position.

• I believe in supporting local businesses, especially those owned by Copperfield residents and will continue to reach out to folks in the neighborhood to bid on our special projects.

• I support renovating the clubhouse as long as it can be done responsibly. It should be done within

our budget, without a special assessment or increase in dues. • I am a proud Copperfield resident and attend all of the neighborhood functions that I can, not only

because I enjoy the company of my neighbors but as a board member I think it important to be involved and to be seen.
