“The Word Through Art” ClassLocal artist Kelly Barrow would like to invite any and all to a creative afternoon to explore the Word in a visual way. Previous art experience and perceived talent are optional. A childlike enthusiasm is encouraged, but not required. Come prepared with your favorite Bible verse or passage and supplies will be provided. The class will be November 10 in the Fellowship Hall, 1-6 p.m.

Bio: Kelly is a mixed-media visual artist who works with collage and sculpture, which is a fancy way of saying making stuff out of whatever’s available at the moment. Kelly believes that art and artistic experiences can deepen our relation-ship with God and further our understanding of his plan for our lives. Contact Sharon Douglass at [email protected] or 288-3836 for more information.

Members and Friends of Oak Hill

I apologize for having to revisit this issue but I need to let each of you know that cash flow continues to be a problem for us; and for some reason these past three weeks have been particularly “slow” in terms of receipts. We’ve got enough cush-ion in our checking account to make payroll and to pay our current liabilities in the near term; but going forward there may be some unpleasant expenditure de-cisions unless our normal donation activity picks up. As mentioned before, we’ve not incurred any extraordinary expenses this year and our budget numbers on the expense side are running pretty much as expected. I urge you to bring your pledge up to date to the extent that you are able. We understand that families have cash flow issues sometimes as well; so If you’ve done as much as can be done for now, please continue to pray for our church family and for our mission. With God’s help, I’m confident that we’ll be in the black again soon.

In Christ, Brad McMahon

United Methodist WomenUMW Book Club

Our December UMW selection is Silent Night: The Story of the World War I Christmas Truce by Stanley Weintraub. This is a true story of soldiers from opposing armies who declared peace, climbed out of their trenches, and celebrated Christmas together. We will have our final meet-ing of 2012 on Thursday morning, December 6, at 10:00 at Panera Bread on William Cannon. Please contact Diana Goodloe at 906-1931 or [email protected] if you have questions.

Mary-Martha Circle will enjoy coffee and dessert, and will especially enjoy special guests, Cindy Brandt and Vernell Montcure, Austin District UMW President. Cindy is not only a member of Oak Hill UMC, but the Co-Chair at Montopolis Friendship Center. She will be sharing information about the Friendship Center’s special out-reach to that community – from Childhood Development programs to bingo for the senior citizens. All are welcome to come join the group. Childcare will be provided for children and grandchildren by calling Jennifer Barkis, 801-0269, at least 48 hours in advance. The Outreach on that day will be a collection of school supplies for the children at the Center. Also, Onesies will be collected for Tracy and her “Thirty Dresses Project” for children in Africa.

HUGS Group Needs Names of Soldiers to Receive Christmas Stockings

The OHUMC Hugs group needs the names of family or friends that are serving in Afghanistan who could be a recipient of a Christmas stocking. The group has made stockings, but we will send them to the Oklahoma City group if no one has a contact from Oak Hill. The Oklahoma City group is planning to send 5000 Christmas boxes to the troops and can use our stockings.Interested persons can call Sandy at 892-0538 or email [email protected].

Chloe Circle MeetingPlease join the women of Chloe Circle Thursday, November 8 at 7 p.m. when Patti Fowler gives us a preview of several interesting books to read. Patti, a librarian for Austin Public Libraries, is a great resource when looking for an interesting book. Chloe Circle meets in room A101 and welcomes guests! Please contact Sherry Melecki at [email protected] if you have questions.

World of Hope BazaarFair Trade Goods From Around The WorldHope Presbyterian Church, 11512 Olson Dr.

Saturday, November 10, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.Sunday, November 11, 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Do your Holiday shopping and support fair trade businesses; shop with justice in mind. Purchase high quality goods created by artisans from around the world. There will be carved olive wood and olive oil from the West Bank; Christmas cards from Nicaragua; fair trade organic coffee, tea, almonds, and varieties of chocolate; beautiful rugs and paintings from Mexico; jewelry from Africa; textiles from Guatemala. BRIDGES OF HOPE items from Peru will include Peruvian pottery, shawls, and ornaments. TEN THOUSAND VILLAGES will have items such as handmade jewelry, musical instruments, garden pottery, toys, scarves, table runners, Christmas ornaments, nativity scenes and so much more.

Heifer International will also be represented. You may purchase shares of an animal such as a goat or a cow or chickens and give this share as a gift that never stops giving.

This bazaar is not a fund raiser for this church but a way to enable artisans from developing countries around the world, including artists and farmers from the USA, to have the dignity of work. Your purchase of fair trade assures that workers receive a fair wage for their work and that environmentally sound practices are followed. The workers are then able to feed their families and send their children to school.

This will be a great opportunity for holiday shopping in support of the Fair Trade businesses. If you would like to carpool, please call Margaret Jones, 892-2048 to make arrangements.

Ms. Suzanne and Ms. Jennifer want to challenge you to finish out the year with not just good, but GREAT attendance. From now to the end of December, everyone

who has perfect attendance will receive special recognition and a prize (since this is over the holidays, you are allowed to miss one Sunday and still qualify)!  The children’s class that has the best attendance (percent-age wise) for the next two months will earn a pizza party in January.  AND any Sunday that we reach 100 or more kids in Sunday School and nursery, will result in a special snack and giveaways the next week.  Bring your friends, encourage your classmates, and come to Sunday School!  We’ll see YOU in the Children’s Building!!
