If you read this column every month, you will notice a different face this month. Donna Abercrombie has completed her two year term as President and has chosen to step down from the Board at this time. Congratulations, Donna on doing such an excellent job during your tenure and I want to thank you for always going “above and beyond” the regular duties of this office and
leaving it in such good order for me as I take up the gavel. Enjoy your time with your family and we look forward to seeing you at the monthly luncheons. We used to think of September as “back to school” month, however, that has changed and schools will be starting back in early August. So the Kids Day on July 29th will be just in time to treat local Kids to a special day of fun and games, including a very popular “Color War”! (Mom's, we apologize for the extra laundry!) Our thanks to all our Sponsors who have made this day possible; I can assure you that every child will have a wonderful day, especially the winner of our Krystal hamburger eating contest, who will go home with a big trophy! Our annual Business Expo is scheduled for September 19th, this year. Please note new time: 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Mark your calendars and make plans to attend and showcase your business at this well attended event, September 11th is deadline to book your booth. Have a great August – try to stay cool! As hurricane season begins, you should review your storm plans in case of a weather emergency. Here are some safety tips for hurricane season:
Before a hurricane strikes:
Build an emergency kit, including flashlights, batteries and a first-aid kit.
Keep cellphones and electronic devices charged.
Have a three-day supply of water and nonperishable food on hand.
Make a family communications plan.
Learn community hurricane evacuation routes. Determine where your family would meet and how
you would get there.
Cover your home’s windows and reinforce garage doors. Permanent storm shutters offer the best
protection. Otherwise, board up windows with 5/8-inch exterior grade or marine plywood.
Make sure trees and shrubs around the home are well-trimmed.
Bring in all outdoor furniture, decorations, garbage cans, etc.
Keep a battery-operated weather radio to stay informed.
Turn down the thermostat to keep your home cool as long as possible.
There is a local kid counting on your help!
Please help support our annual Back to School
Drive! We are collecting school supply
donations for our six partnering schools. You
may drop off donations at the Chamber office.

#866 Rangeline Road
Wal-Mart Store #866 in Tillman’s Corner opened with 200 associates in June of
1988, near the current location. Wal-Mart #866 opened with Sam Walton’s strong
conviction that a retailer could help people save money and live better. That
continues to be “Why” we are in business today- it’s our purpose. Since that time
the store has moved to Rangeline Road as a Supercenter and grown to 425
associates and serves approximately 2.6 million customers each year.
John Wimsatt, store manager announced that this August 2017, Wal-Mart looks
forward to remodeling the store to launch it into the future under the new
Supercenter Reinvention Program that will be 1 of only 4 in the entire company. The
store will receive new digital and tech integration. There will be a new store layout
with many changes with new conveniences for customers. There will be video demos
available on interactive displays for electronics, baby, beauty and hardware. In store
portals will be added for customers convenience with online assortment with the
option to order for in store pick up. They can search for an item location in the
store using the Store Positioning & Item Locator, which will route them directly to
the item using their phone. New equipment will provide faster and more convenient
pick up service when ordering online. And these are just some of the exciting
changes coming to our store to provide our community with a better shopping
experience. John said that the store will remain open during the remodel, so bear
with us while we launch into the future. We should finish remodeling in early
November and can’t wait to show our customers their new store.
