GM Performance Build Center Relocating to Bowling Green

The Performance Build Center, currently located in Wixom, MI, will move to the GM Chevrolet Corvette Assembly Plant by the first quarter of 2014. The PBC employs 29 and builds engines for the Grand Sport Coupe manual, Z06, 427 Convertible and ZR1.

"I'm very happy to announce today that GM will move its Performance Build Center, which allows engine enthusiasts to build their own specialty engines, from Michigan, and we're going to bring it right here to Bowling Green," said Arvin Jones, Manufac-turing Manager for GM North America at the January 30 press conference.

In 2010 GM announced the launch of the Corvette Engine Build Experience, where buyers can assist in the building of their engine. The owner's name is then affixed on a special plate on their engine, next to the one bearing the name of the master builder.

"We've got lots of excitement headed our way," said GM Bowling Green Assembly Plant Manager Dave Tatman. "We intend to make the full transition to the Perfor-mance Build Center by the first quarter of 2014. Lots of details have got to be worked out yet, but obviously we wanted to share that great news with you. As you think about this, I know Wendell, that you and your team are jumping up and down thinking about how we can continue to combine our efforts between the National Corvette Museum and the Bowling Green Assembly Plant and this new opportunity, and we look forward to those discussions as well."

Eugene Nagowski Joins One Acre Club

Eugene Nagowski of Corpus Christi, Texas is not only a Corvette enthusiast and Lifetime Member of the National Corvette Museum, but he is also a cherished friend of the Museum. To date, Eugene has purchased 15 “Walk of Fame” bricks, an entryway tile as well as a granite bench dedicated to the memory of his late wife, Patricia. All of these commemora-tive pieces are currently on display here at the Museum. As an additional tribute to his wife, Eugene donated the funds to bring “Pat’s Super Service Center,” an interactive car service center experience just for children, to the NCM Corvette KidZone.

Eugene’s love affair with the Corvette began when he purchased his first at the age of 19, a 1960 Roman Red convertible. This close relationship later continued with the purchase of a 1976 Mahogany Stingray Corvette, which was Eugene and Patricia’s first Corvette as a married couple. Eugene currently owns a 2010 C6 Crystal Red Metallic Coupe, which he affectionately calls his “Little Red Rocket Ship.”

When asked why he decided to join the One Acre Club Eugene states, “Helping out friends and family, that’s what family is for, right? The staff at the Museum makes me feel like family, and my family is in need.”

NCM 20th Anniversary Celebration and

National Corvette Caravan Registration

Labor Day weekend 2014 marks a major milestone in Corvette and Museum history; Corvette, the longest running single marque, is in its 7th generation and the Museum, a member driven organization, celebrates the 20th Anniversary of the Grand Opening. In keeping with tradition, which is one of the hallmarks of the Corvette world, the kick-off to the celebration starts with thousands of Corvette enthusiasts from all over the world making their way to Bowling Green, Kentucky in ever-growing caravans converging on the home of Corvette for 3+ days of exciting Corvette lifestyle.

Although months away from finalizing the on-site activities, planning for the National Corvette Caravan has been underway for several years. In one significant change from the past there will be only a single registration for both the 20th Anniver-sary Celebration and the National Corvette Caravan. Base registration is for the on-site event and there are options to add your Caravan selection, the Hall of Fame Induction Banquet, event shirt and, for Lifetime members, the Lifetime/VIP din-ner. See more regarding National Corvette Caravan at http://www.nationalcorvettecaravan.com/

As activities are finalized and an agenda created updates will be posted to this page and announcements will appear in eNews and on Caravan Chat.

Two Captains Needed for Caravan

Two captains are still needed for the 2014 NCM Caravan. These vacancies are in the Nebraska and the South Texas caravan regions. If interested in assuming one of these positions or if you know of someone who may be, please contact Paul Mariano at [email protected].

How Much Will Joe Flacco’s “Free” Corvette Stingray

Really Cost?

Last week, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco won the Super Bowl’s Most Valuable Player award and

thus the keys to a brand new 2014 Corvette Stingray. As we all know too well nothing in life if free. With this

in mind, Forbes and The Detroit Free Press took a closer look at how much Flacco’s “free” Corvette could

cost him.

Citing an article in Forbes by Kurt Badenhausen, The Detroit Free Press says that the 450hp C7 could come

with a $25,000 tax bill in the glovebox based on its estimated $60,000 price tag.

We’re not schooled on the latest tax codes, but it’s basically up to the MVP on how he wants to handle the

gift. If he keeps the car he’ll take that $25k hit. If he takes possession and subsequently donates it to charity

himself he’ll pay less tax. If he directs GM to donate the car directly and never touches the key fob he can

eliminate the income from his tax form. You can hop on over to the Forbes article for all the dirty tax details

on Flacco’s Stingray.

No matter what Joe Flacco decides to do with his new C7, we’re sure the financial implications aren’t real im-

portant to him since he’s a free agent this year and likely to receive a substantial pay raise whether he stays in

Baltimore or moves elsewhere.

SAM HOUSTON INDIVIDUAL INCENTIVE POINTS AWARDS PROGRAM

A point system to stimulate attendance and participation from the entire club has been adopted by the board and goes into effect immediately

upon the start of the August 3, 2012 meeting and will run until June 30, 2013 just before our 20th anniversary as a club in July. Listed below are

the categories and point values for each. At the end of the program all members’ in good standing will have their points tallied and the persons

with the top three most points will be awarded prizes.

The grand prize is a SHCC club jacket currently valued at $75.00. Second place is a SHCC voucher for club apparel valued at $50.00. Third prize

is a free entry into one of the SHCC car shows.

The board members and their spouses are not eligible for the prizes mentioned above but are compiling the same points to compete among

themselves to win a $25.00 gift certificate at a local restaurant. It is of the opinion that board members and/or their spouses may have an un-

fair advantage by attending most all events and this program is intended to help promote other club members to get involved more.

Point system values for attendance and participation are as follows:

Attend Monthly Meeting = 1 point

Attend SHCC Monthly Drive = 2 points

SHCC Event Participation = 3 points (i.e.; Xmas party, bowling, Halloween party etc.)

SHCC Car Show Participant = 4 points (i.e. worker)

SHCC Pre-Run Participant = 5 points (wild flower & fall foliage only)

SHCC Car Show Participant WITH Car Entry = 7

Head Up a SHCC Event or Drive = 10 points

Please note there may be from time to time BONUS Points awarded but it will be announced in advance so everyone will have

fair notice to attend. CHECK YOUR SHCC WEBSITE.
